I have a 35k adjustable term life insurance policy. It started out affordable, but not its doubled within 10 years. Garbage and a rip off. NO CASH VALUE after thousands paid into this garbage policy.

Does not help retirees but does serve as a schill for insurance companies. Current focus of ads (2024) is "findind a job". AARP is tone deaf. Not worth subscribing to at all. Generates more spam mail and email than virtually any other organization.

When I turned 50, I joined AARP. They said I would get a gift for joining. I soon discovered A. The discounts don't kick in until you are 55. B. They promote only Democrat candidates and causes. And C. They lied about the "free gift". I called to inquire about the bag and was told they had a limited supply. They still promise a free gift for joining. If they'll lie about the gift to get you to join, they'll lie about anything. I joined AMAC. I get the same benefits without the agenda and B.S.

They seem to focus on making money on ads, give money-saving tips to save pennies, and talk about fraud, but they never reply to my fraud/scam questions/requests.

I look to AARP for the basics; info on health, insurance, financial trends, legislation in progress, ect. Dont look at it more than a few times a month.
When AARP veers off into politics and opinion I lose interest instantly and exit the app.
I dont care what bruce sringsteen or michele obama think about anything. Seriously, I dont.
If I wanted to read people magazine I'd buy one.
That whole celebrity worship is a disease itself.
So I just use it for it's useful purposes and ignore the rest.

I made a huge mistake giving these people money. Now that I've cancelled they hound me horribly with tons of junk mail. It's a disgusting waste of resources mostly. Now they have started sending me AARP Foundation mailings wanting donations for poor seniors. I'm one of them and didn't realize AARP was geared towards well-off/comfortable middle class seniors and why I cancelled before my membership even expired. I laughed so hard because they now want me to not only send them money in their newest mailing of the AARP Foundation to "help seniors in need", but they expect me to pay for the stamp to mail it to them. On their website they suggest you PAY some other greedy capitalist to get rid of these junk mailings... that either don't work or work for 3 years and you have to pay again. I even get the AARP junk mail for the DECEASED woman who used to live in my apartment. These people have no shame! Like most who collect charitable donations, the CEO gets 6 figures from it then all those under get big cuts of it then there's the overhead to run the scam... so what do they have left to help poor seniors? A whole lot of NOTHING! I see no big dent in the amount of struggling seniors as I have seen no dent in Cancer with the scam run by The American Cancer Society. AARP is only ONE in a sea of scammers AND they sold my data too, Criminals!

I tried several times on several occasions and couldn't sign in. I called for aarp help, but unfortunately they were unable to help. After becoming frustrated I ended the call. I called again and the support help appeared to get testy and told me that they would hang up. To me that is unacceptable, I ended the call by canceling my subscription. All that I wanted was some help, didn't get it.

I was of age and signed up for AARP, haven't used it yet. Probably because I was perturbed they didn't send the free offer - cooler tote bag... so I contacted them and they promised to send it, NEVER did! Can't trust them. So If you are on the fence and the gift was weighing to try it... don't let that persuade you. They send a lot generic information you can find online, as well as tons of advertisements for senior stuff and meds.

I'm 59 and I have no respect for AARP whatsoever after it took a chat session and two phone numbers and 45 minutes on the phone to remove my dead mom's name off their mailing list - maybe - I don't even know if the foreign guy even understood.

Why is it that complex to remove your dead mother's name from a list when I had all the information?

I was trying to be nice so that they're not wasting postage because it all gets shredded without being looked at.

I want nothing to do with AARP - EVER!

We got the membership 6 years ago and no problem with discounts. No longer members. I started looking at their magazine. Every black history month you'll never see a prominent Black person on their cover. Always non black. They'll put us inside with a couple of small articles. I asked about it in an email and never got a response. So we cancelled out membership. You want me to support you cause of ageism what about you supporting us against racism? Bye bye aarp. You don't apply to me.

AARP told me they could save me 500 if I switched to them. My insurance for year $1700. AARP rate was $5700 for six months. AARP are criminals stealing people's money. I hope their customer shop around and see how badly AARP is raping them! GFYS AARP

Tip for consumers:
AARP tried to over charge me $9000 and tried to claim they were saving me $500

Products used:
Vermont mutual they have been my insurance company. AARP reached out to me and claimed they could save me $500 when the truth is they would be charging me $9000 more. Not 900 more $9000.00 more per year. They can gfts!

Seniors...beware. This company is taking advantage of us. Annual fee is $120 + 27 cents per mile + the Lyft or Uber fee. Get a friend or family member to order thru their App for you.
I am highly offended by us seniors being taken advantage of.

My 79 year old mother-in-law owed 300$, on a 100,000$ life insurance policy. She's been paying on this for years. Her funeral is taken care of., everything else is paid for. I had to see her cry, because these idiots cancelled her policy after all these years. She's just worried about leaving something to someone important to her. What a bunch of worthless $#*!s!

AARP STARTED OUT FIGHTING For the rights of senior citizens in fact, they originally called them, selves the gray panthers. Now they just a big business that is the number one supplier of all forms of insurance in America. They advertise all sorts of big discounts when the fact they know better than dealing with an insurance company I joined in an attempt to save money on auto insurance. In fact, the company the Hartford would not even pick me up. I had friends who are also AARP members that tried to get insurance and the rate was the same one more than you sure it's companies they already had. Of course they pushed for Obamacare Nevada how bad it was because they're the number one seller of Insurance and Obama care stipulated that you had to have mandatory insurance so it was a bonanza for AARP talk about fighting for seniors rights. Not satisfied with just going after senior citizens AARP is now going after people under the age of 50 talk about a giant money munching machine! I will not be renewing my membership, the tire waste of time

I start to get 'time to renew' notices about 4 months before my membership is set to expire. I smell a scam. If some unsuspecting senior gets a bill 4 months before a membership expiration, they pay it, then next year the renewal notice comes 4 months earlier than was paid last year...get my drift?
I don't use my AARP membership. I don't need prescription drug benefits. I have one medication. I use herbal medicine, I always have, and always will. Get with the times, AARP your constituency is Baby Boomers and they have a whole different set of values and lifestyle. I don't use AARP discounts; I don't eat out a lot. AARP is not a relevant organization for me. I enjoy reading validation of my suspicions about issues like age discrimination, and I realize that there is legislation at the Federal level that is supposed to prevent it; but it still happens. I have checked out some of the online courses for business owners. They weren't anything that I haven't found elsewhere. Mainly, AARP to me is nothing more than a pest.

I may increase my stars after a year of membership. For anyone who is deciding on what free gift to get, don't get the spider bag. The picture is very deceiving lol. The bag is so small, it made me laugh till I cried. Just a heads up. Lol

Let's not forget that AARP helped push Obamacare through legislation. Prior to ObamaCare I paid $399.00 for health care for myself. After ObaamaCare became law, I had to pay $1,300.00 for just myself. Since I can't afford that, I have no healthcare. Thanks AARP, you suck!

Half or more of the sh*t AARP presents does not even work. I have grown more grey hair trying to figure out how to make use of AARP than I have from natural stressors and acute depression. I am a young member having succumbed to the organization's predatory practices. I signed up for 5 years and fully regret that I even signed up for one. I think most scammers are actually kinder to users who are tech-unsure or unsavvy. WORST decision I made in my life other than an ABUSIVE relationship. Very little value, lots of spam, and lots of unwarranted time.

Tip for consumers:
DON'T. Avoid AARP.
