“I Have Their Credit Card...”

... two, actually. Because 2% cash back, unlimited, on all purchases, with no categories to keep track of and no real hoops to jump through, is as good a deal as you will find anywhere. The only thing I would ding them on is that they haven't always taken my side in disputes with merchants. I VERY rarely have a dispute with a merchant, but when I do, it's legit, and I expect my credit card company to at lest be neutral and side with who's right.

“Lack of Customer Service”

mark m.

Citibank sent a letter to confirm my company info. I assumed it was spam as Citi has never done this before. They could have requested the info on my monthly statement and I would know its not spam. Without a reply they canceled my card (7 cards as its a business account). Never told me they were canceling. When it canceled all the 'thankyou' points were deleted. I was a customer for more than 30 years. After more than 2 hours being bounced from dept to dept, no one can help. Citi has no customer service. Adios Citi.

They don't protect you from fraud while using Citi Double Cash Card. I had 2 legitimate fraud claims and backed them with plenty of evidence, but they sided with the fraudsters. What a joke. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

The fraud department at Citi is impossible to work with. Their questions trying to identify the cardholder goes way above normal. A sample identification question may be, what are the last four digits of your grandfathers second wife's SS number. Sounds like a joke buts it's not.

Terrible customer service. Called to close my account; was on the phone 5 hours & had to call back today. People don't know their jobs or their company. I was told I would be transferred and they sent me to Loans; they then sent me to Debit Cards. Can't understand first line employees and they have poor headsets so very hard to hear/get what they say. To get my money they said would be 10-15 BUSINESS DAYS plus mail time... a month TO GET MY MONEY! Finally they said I could do a wire transfer but I would have to pay for it.

Tip for consumers:

You can get multiple cards, and use one only for your recurring monthly bills. It saves you a lot of trouble when your credit card number gets stolen and you have to get a new card.

I went to the Macy's website and tried to purchase a men's diamond ring. It was not available in store so I tried to order it online. An offer of 20% off my purchase by opening a Macy's card popped up. I have an 820 credit score so I figured why not. I did the application and got a message to call them with additional information. I did, and had to deal with Citibank, big mistake. I've dealt with Citibank before. They are the most incompetent organization I have ever dealt with. You have to speak with foreigners in other countries. You can't understand them and they don't know what they are doing. Big companies like Macy's cut costs by outsourcing jobs that should be going to Americans and instead pay people in other countries, pitiful. They asked some basic questions and said I was approved. Then the chaos started. I tried placing my order for the diamond ring and kept being switched back and forth between credit and the online purchasing departments with long holding periods each time. Every time I was switched I spoke with a different person who gave me a different story. I finally got so frustrated I just told them to cancel/close the charge account. The next day I received an email from a credit monitoring site that reported my score dropped because of the Macy's inquiry. The whole thing was a nightmare. This was my second and last horrible shopping attempt with Macy's, never again. My advice, ban/boycott Macy's and Citibank and save yourself a ton of headaches.

I love Citi bank. I've had a credit card with them for 16 years. They are so honest. They don't raise rates drastically. If you ever need something, there customer service is fantastic. I highly recommend them. I can't say enough good about them.

The "clever" money mongers at Citi have made awards more difficult than before and put into a process where you actually LOSE money (awards) when you try and collect. Very underhanded and messy changes. Stay away from Citi.

Do not trust Citi bank with your funds. I opened a business bank account with Citi. I have several bank accounts with multiple banks and this was the worst banking relationship I have had. My business is an international company which causes me to travel around the U.S. and internationally throughout the year. Citi never had bank locations, nor ATMs, in any of the major cities I traveled except my home city. Citi also allowed companies to draft money from my account without my consent. When I informed citi of the unauthorized drafts, they continued to allow companies to draft money from my account, and never reimbursed me for the unauthorized drafts. Citi customer service is horrible, and they do not truly care about their customers. Do not trust this company with your money.

Citi is the worst credit-card company ever.

A few months ago, I ordered a product that turned out to be defective. So, I contacted the company that I ordered it from TWICE to let them know that it didn't work. Well, they never responded. As a result, I opened up a dispute with Citi.

Citi gives merchants 45 days to respond, and this merchant responded with a very vague, general response on day 44--and lied about not being contacted by me. Nevertheless, Citi immediately ruled in favor of the merchant!

Shocked, I appealed the verdict, but this time the merchant didn't even bother to respond to what I wrote. And guess what? Citi STILL sided with the merchant! Why? Because I didn't return the defective item on my own dime. Tell me—have you ever heard of a credit-card company that expects the CUSTOMER to pay to return defective items? Until now, I certainly hadn't.

Anyway, I called up Citi and told them what I thought. The woman I talked to was actually pretty nice, and said that the merchant was being extremely difficult and "didn't want to accept" a chargeback. HUH? Who actually controls the purse strings—Citi or the merchant? But at least she said that she would issue me a "goodwill credit" because I'd been a customer for so long.

While I appreciated the credit that the agent gave me, Citi should've never sided with the dishonest merchant in the dispute. Sadly, it seems that Citi's policy is: "The merchant is always right!" It didn't seem to matter what evidence I brought to the table—Citi basically just ignored it.

After paying off my final balance, I canceled my Citi card for good and haven't looked back. Please learn from my story and stay FAR away from this joke of a credit-card company.

In February 2021, Motel 6 quoted a seven day rate as $475.85 but the credit card was charged $833.69. Have tried CitiCard credit card to remove the fraud, as their website promises, but they have not. Instead, in the last sixteen months, they have removed then reapplied the fraud, told me twice on the phone (incorrectly) that the fraud had been removed, denied my request to speak with a supervisor, argued with me because I used the word "fraud" to describe the fraud, Investigated a different, valid, charge and said I waited too long to complain because I did not fill out forms they did not send.

If you have a Costco Visa and also have VPN on your computer, you will have trouble logging in. You will keep getting the message that your login name or password are incorrect. This is due to your VPN. Citi Bank does not care about your security. They will not let you login with VPN. So, you have to disable your VPN to login to your Costco Visa account with Citi Bank. I have called to complain about this but obviously they don't care. I am getting ready to get rid of my Costco Card because of this. These days you need all the protection you can get on the internet. One of the best ways to do this is to use a VPN service. You can try calling Citi Bank and complain about this. The best action to take in this case is get rid of the card. Security is number one when it comes to money.

I discovered over a $3000. 00 fraudulent purchase on my card. I notified Citi of the fraud and disputed it. Citi claimed to have sent a "letter" to me asking for more information. Within 7 days from the date of the supposed letter they claim to have sent, they denied my claim stating that I did not respond to them within the 7 days allowed. They never attempted to contact me via phone, email or text and the "letter" they claim to have mailed was never received. I consider this almost criminal on their part. Zero fraud protection for their customers!

Thank you Citi Mastercard!

Given the widespread problems with stolen/hacked personal information, unwanted charges, phone scams, and supposedly "free" trials, here's how I pay for my online shopping.

CitiBank issues credit cards [go to: www.citi.com] with an optional feature they call VIRTUAL ACCOUNT NUMBERS. Plus, their website allows cardholders to sign up for account "notifications" to be sent via e-mail or as text messages.

After you login to your CitiBank online account you can create one or more brand new and unique 16-digit credit card account numbers, each with a specified maximum dollar limit (for example $50) and expiration date (for example 2- or 8-months from now). Each Virtual number is good for use by just one merchant.

When an online merchant asks for your credit card information, you simply provide the newly-created Virtual number, its expiration date, and (if requested) the 3-digit CVV/CVC number. When the merchant charges your Virtual Account, CitiBank's online data (and any notifications via e-mail or text message) will show that activity within about 10-seconds. (Fast!)

In my experience, the best parts of all this are:
-- I know immediately when my account is charged, and for how much.
-- If a hacker steals my Virtual Number, my primary credit card information is not at risk.
-- By setting a maximum dollar limit, I can avoid the "surprise" of unwanted recurring charges.
-- I can close my Virtual Account at any time. (Meanwhile, my primary account remains open and ready to issue new Virtual numbers.)

This has been working for me for a couple of years.
