“OMG Pleasantly Suprised at Direct TV's Service”

Wayne Z.
12/25/21

I can't believe it. I have recently posted how bad the customer service is at Etrade and Century Link. I am here to tell you I had a great experience with Direct TV. They are no longer part of the evil AT&T and things are different. I called at about 11:00 pm Christmas eve because my TV's signal quit working. I spoke to a live person (though at a foregin call center) he spoke perfect english, no long wait time. He immediately went to work sending signals to my TV and tried to restore service. We were having a weather event and nothing he did would help. He immediately set up for a technician to come out the next morning (Christmas Day) between 8-12 and mentioned the tech would call about 30 minutes before arriving. Well 9 am Christmas morning I gat a call from the tech saying he was on his way and would be about 30-45 minutes... I went and checked the TV and everything was working. I called the tech back and told hime to not come and cancel the call because everything was working. The suprise is that for a big company they are doing everything right. Answered the phone, no long wait times. Representative was very competent and proferssional. They did what they said they were going to do when they said they were going to do it. Knowing they are now not apart of the evil AT&T even makes everything that much better. I would encourage you to try DriectTV.

“Bad reception, still being charged”

LeeAnna M.

I signed up w direct cable a few yrs ago. We had the service. Maybe two wks, or lack of service. I could never watch any shows, the connection was clear but the signal was terrible. I called them numerous times complaining. Finally got fed up due to their lack of service and switched to dish! I haven't had a problem with the reception at all now. Direct still charged me 300 bucks for $#*!ty service! I refuse to pay it.

Don't waste your money on DIRECTV streaming! We have had it for less than one month and the video is an incredible disappointment with all the glitches. Currently we are experiencing complete shut down with a spinning circle in the middle of our TV saying it is waiting for a video to catch up. The biggest disappointment however is trying to contact someone in customer service or tech-support! Nobody seems to care about customers once they are in their system! It took us over an hour and a half to finally get someone who tried something. Nobody else really cared. That's with my wife and I both spending time on our phones and on chat sites. DIRECTV is not worth the frustration! Steer clear!

They customer service provided by the representative located in Philippines took over 1 hour to verify identity, and confirm order for DirectTV, internet, and ATT phone. The process was very time consuming! :(

After installation nightmares, the directtv experience is actually ok. The picture is awesome and they have a lot to offer. It is not as user-friendly as cable but this review is supposed to be about the website. If you want answers to your issues, go to the website. There are video tutorials and lots of FAQ and yours is probably already there and answered if not by directtv staff then by other users in their forums. You can also program your DVR via the website or iphone application which is pretty cool to me. Again, the salesmen will lie to you about all it will do compared to cable (comcast for example) and the on demand experience is not even close to cable's great way of doing it (you have to record everything before you can watch it, no watching on the fly) so just make sure you have visited someone who has it before you switch so you are making an informed decision. It is cheaper than cable and the picture is way better. I hated them at first but now I'm ok with them and they do have a cool website.

I've had Direct TV for years, I'm canceling it tomorrow. Tried to record a ball game, the guide says they're playing on Ch16, set it to record, no game, some message about the are trying to get it back on. The same for Ch 33. In the mean time I miss both ball games because some idiot didn't update the guide. Now Newsmax isn't being carried. Try to find the supper bowl, you would think for $150 a month they would have that, NO! I've already found all the channels I watch on Streaming Services a lot cheaper. Maybe if the go out of business we'll get some more useful channels in it's place,

I honestly don't know where to begin. 18 months ago, I signed up for DirectTV ( bundled package with Century Link Telephone Co.) After weeks, Century Link could not provide internet and phone service. I spent 12 hours on the phone being passed from one account rep to another between DirectTV and Century Link. I must have told the story 100 times to different account reps. Finally, finally I was successful in cancelling DirectTV and returned to Comcast as our bundled provider.

This month, we attended the State Fair here in Oregon, and were "snagged" by a sweet talking sales rep that said he could save us a lot of money and give us better service than we were receiving from our cable provider. He begged us to give DirectTV and Century Link another chance. He told us that our transition would be seamless and gave us free HBO, Showtime, & Cinemax for three months, and the NFL Sunday Ticket for free for a year. He told us that our TV would be hooked up the next day. (A Sunday, if you can believe that!) He told us that the equipment from Century Link would follow within 3-4 days, and it would have full instructions on how to install it for our Internet & phone service. After three phone calls to Direct TV, Century Link and First Choice (whoever they are), and three weeks had passed, we finally received a confirmation in the mail that we had a bundle. Yea, right? A week later, we received a modem on our front doorstep. The same day, an installer from Century Link showed up at our door, unannounced saying that he was here to make sure we had dial tone. We were told that we had no phone lines, and therefore they couldn't connect Century Link service. Now, keep in mind that we have had phone service at this same house through Comcast for the past 9 years. I guess the "land line" just miraculously works for no good reason. Right? He informed me, that we could pay them to come out, trench, and lay new phone lines. Uh... of course we would have to pay for that. So, for the past week and a half, we have spent numerous hours on the phone, talking to sales reps, supervisors, etc. Tonight, a very nasty young man, informed us that he would be happy to discontinue our service, however, we would have to pay them $450+ because we failed to honor our 2-year contract. Now, correct me if I'm wrong... I have to keep a "bundled service" that I don't have for two years or pay a fine for "breaking a contract" that they don't have to honor? There's something wrong with this picture. Don't get caught up in the hype. We get what we pay for. I'm not saying DirectTV bundles aren't good for some people. What I'm saying is... the sales reps should know what they can offer to a prospective customer up front. Don't promise them the moon and then not deliver. This is not over! Make sure that you have the complete bundle before you let anyone from any of those companies through your door.

Tip for consumers:
Very poor business ethics and poor customer service.

So we used there moving program.( yes, there moving program) 2.5 Years later we realize they are still charging us for 2 receivers at the old address! What the hell? Not only do they now want the equipment back we already returned but say its our fault for not catching them over billing us for 2.5 years and they do not issue refunds. Do yourself a favor, talk to Dish or someone else. They have a constant problem with this, but blame the customer. Simply Outrageous.

We are very upset that our appointment for this past Saturday was missed, having waited for 4 hours, then received a prerecorded voicemail 15 minutes after our window closed to advise us that the tech rep was running late...(DUH!) and then after waiting an additional 45 minutes we were advised on-line that the tech rep cancelled and rescheduled after waiting for 4-5 hours! Worst part they tech rep entered a new appointment for 5 days later!

This experience had made us very unhappy and are considering cancelling our service after 25 years! You think someone would be listening or reading but my guess is NOT!

This is really bad business!

Direct TV (originally AT&T TV) is a truly horrible company. Their sales people lie. I was blatantly lied to when I signed up for service. Their customer service is a joke. They - including "the office of the president" - don't really give a crap. They made minor concessions like that should make up for my rate almost doubling, and being lied to. When I was was originally told the price I signed up with, was the regular price, it then turned out to be a promotional price. It was originally $59, which was for a mid-level package, and after a year, it jumped to something like $93. I specifically asked about this since it's part of why I left comcast. I would have never signed up. Some things about the actual TV service are decent but there are so many issues. For example, if you watch shows on-demand, they do something weird where they cut off the end. The end it maybe 15-30 second before the show is over. It's insanely annoying. Also, they often make you watch 6-8 commercials at a time, even when you just want to rewind because you missed something. And if the show is almost over and you try to rewind a bit, it often just end the show and starts playing the next episode. And even though I am not opting to watch shows in Spanish, sometimes it plays commercials in Spanish.
In addition, as a personal assistant, I have made probably a couple thousand of dollars of my time, trying to fix issues on behalf of clients.

Tip for consumers:
Use a different company.

I had Direct Tv for about 15 or 20 yrs. By the end of 2021, I had enough. I saw I was paying over half of my bill for equipment rentals. $10 for each tv to have dvr, $7 per tv, $10 per tv for HD. My rentals were over $80 per month for 3 TV's at my house. Rip off. They are outdated. Switched to FUBO and never looked back.

I'm sick and tired of dealing with these greed mongers. My account was on autopay with paperless billing, so I don't always notice when they literally double the price. Then you have to call these a$$holes and threaten to cancel service before they will take you back to a reasonable rate. Then you have to go through the same bull$hit next year when the price doubles again.

I've been trying to cancel for 2 months now. Finally got it done today! It took about 45 minutes with several calls to 3 or 4 of the different customer service numbers.
I kept getting stuck in a loop with the bot asking same questions so it could "transfer me to the correct number". Then I'd get same bot with asking same questions so they could transfer my call. This went on over and over and over again for 15 minutes until I hung up and called a different customer service number from the ATT website. Same annoying issue on 3 different numbers. Finally tried I found on google that wasn't listed anywhere on ATT. I got through to a human being on first call and the $#*! hung up on me when I expressed my frustration at their irritating cancellation process. Called back again and this time I bit my tongue and kept saying no thank you no thank you no thank you until they finally cancelled my service. Yay! I'm done!

I've been a Direct TV customer for over a decade, with the merge with AT&T everything, everything has declined.
AT&T is a rogue company, has always been will always be. Search the original break up this company. They seem to have a corporate culture of taking advantage of the consumer. I hesitate to call it 'theft' but it is pretty close. Make a lot of money, support the stock holder and investor, but to heck with the individual customer.
Unfortunately, here in Nashville the alternative, Comcast, is just as bad. Too bad, man I used to love my Direct TV, the new management is destroying this sat TV format.

Spent 2+yrs and many hours on the phone trying to get bill correct. Apparently only the customer has to hold their end but they do whatever they feel. Was charged for movies never ordered and lied to constantly. Finally cut the cord and boy does it feel good. Scarry at first but worth it.

Enter "Customer Service/oxymoron" into your search engine and the first example produced will be DirecTV.
Results of five separate telephone calls to DirecTV Customer Service about the DirecTV App the same afternoon:
1. Five out of six technicians, including three supervisors, offered no assistance... the sixth produced an unacceptable response.
2. Three calls disconnected.
3. Four out of six technicians could barely be understood.
4. Repeated presentation of problem/question to no avail.
5. Technicians offered guesses that had no relationship whatsoever to problem presented.
Providers like DirecTV lost 5,000 subscribers in 2016 (five times the number lost the year before).
Adios, DirecTV, and howdy streaming services.

Tip for consumers:
Avoid like the plague.
Inconsistent.
Useless.

Direct TV has the worst customer service that I have ever seen. I have been waiting for a technician for over a week. The entire system in my house does not work. The technician was supposed to show up from 12-4. I have called 5 times and spoken to 3 different managers. No call from the technician and we still don't have service. There comment was that there is nothing they can do. They refused to give me any contact information for the technician.

I would not ever recommend this company to somebody! Yes they do have a great picture and good channels to choose from but the customer service is what really makes a company and this one is just 100% lacking in that area! They are rude and unappreciative and they also do not know what they are telling customers. One person will tell you you're getting some awesome deal then you turn on your t. V and don't even have the channels they offered or worse you get the bill and are charged all this stuff they told you that you would be receiving a discount on. Just terrible! We have had this service two different times now and the only reason we came back was because any other service in our area doesn't compare to theirs but something needs to be done with the training in the customer service department! I've had so many bad experiences it would take hours to write all the stories I've dealt with from this one company!
