“Conservatives BEWARE”

Kyle S.
2/7/24

I've had a Dropbox account for many years with zero problems. Then on 01/30/24 I get a notification that my account was disabled. I sent customer service an email asking why this happened. I get a robo response saying that I "violated use policies" all i had were Conservative memes and videos supporting our President Trump. Now all of my precious photos and business files are permanently gone, no option to file a petition to get my account back. Nothing. Conservatives beware of this "woke" Leftist company. Put your important files and photos on another platform. You have been warned.

Dropbox bought a company called FormSwift. They (according to the people at FormSwift) changed their refund policy so that you will NEVER get a refund if they billed you already on your cancel date. My 7 day trial ends today (Sept 11,2023) and they already billed me. They refuse to refund the money even though I don't want the service. Going to call my bank but that's a 50/50 shot... This is beyond poor customer service! I will never use one of their products or even trial one again!

Tip for consumers:
7 days means if you start your trial at 11:59 pm on the 4th, your payment is processed at 12:01am on the 11th. So your 1 minute of use on the 4th counts as 24 hours.

Products used:
During the free trial, I looked at a privacy policy document.

Two issues. My credit card shows that Dropbox gave me around $25 cash back. Their billing department can't tell me why and they don't have a record of it. Second issue I can't figure out why only my photos will sync with dropbox and not my documents. Three techs could not help. The first tech was the most help because she could logon to my computer and point out what I needed to do with a little red arrow. Somehow I lost the chat and the second and third techs wanted a screenshot, which would not have been a help and would not log on to show me where I needed to go on Dropbox to do what I needed to do

Poorly designed, since it auto defaults to lowest quality, so if recipients forget or do not know to change quality, it looks like poorly made video, that is un-watchable. Dropbox videos should be just as good or even better than Youtube quality videos that do not hardly ever, buffer & freeze up on good internet service like dropbox videos does. Also Dropbox Docsend tracked videos are even worse quality,as their videos mostly only play in very poor low un-watchable quality, without any option to raise quality. So could not even use Docsend option, even though really wanted track when & by whom my recipient video was opened, plus we do not like that Dropsend requires our recipients to cough up their email info, just to get basic tracking info. This is poor marketing. I would never pay for this curr Docsend service.
All my online reviews will rate Dropbox & Docsend as [ 2.5 out of 5 Stars], until many badly needed improvements are done.
Hope Dropbox & Docsend Developers fix all these ongoing poor service issues, as reported by many many others online.

Tip for consumers:
DROPBOX & DOCSEND poorly designed & low quality.

Verified purchase

I have been using Dropbox, on and off, for around 9 years now and have had a good experience using their free storage service. It is very easy to store, share and transfer your files using the website. The free version gives you a pretty good amount of space to store your files. You probably won't fill it up, unless you are a hardcore/heavy user and/or store video and audio files. I don't use this as much anymore, but their service is still good. I have never used their paid premium version, so I can't comment on the quality of it. But I would imagine it is very good, since the free version is very good.

If I could leave zero stars, I would.

I am an artist and kept my original work in a Dropbox folder. Somehow, they deleted it during a drive rollback. It wasn't discovered until recently because that was an older project that I now need to access to complete a current project.

They refuse to acknowledge any wrongdoing and refuse to help us get this folder back. Four years of painstaking work is lost. Customer service is a joke. They are rude, flip and the gaslighting is constant. I will never trust them again. BEWARE of this service. We even pay the higher premiums for the special recovery feature but when you actually need it, that feature is non-existent.

Again, FOUR YEARS of work. Lost. I can literally see the folder in deleted items, but have no access to my own copyrighted work. It's insane (and illegal).

Don't try free trial as then they bill you forever and don't respond to requests to stop billing your credit card or to refund the amount. It seems they ripoff people all the time and should be charged with fraud and put out of business. I wanted to try the service but found it not worth what they wanted to charge every month.
Stay away from them!

Tip for consumers:
It appears that dropbox does this unethical fraudulent conduct all the time

Perhaps I shouldn't complain since I have a free account but I had personal, important (to me)files on Dropbox for several years. Occasionally I would use them and they was always there on Dropbox until today. They are gone. Not a file available under my special folder. When I went to contact them, they want a link to the disaster so I give them one. But their form will not take my link so I am unable to even complain. Thats why I'm here.
If you have files you need to keep do not rely on Dropbox because they will disappoint you they only hold files for 30 days(free). Get yourself a disk from WD or Seagate and don't trust any of these cloud type services. Learn from my mistake!

In 2019 Dropbox advertised an "unlimited' storage plan, I reached out to confirm it was unlimited because as an artist and photographer, I have a large amount of data. At the time I had 3TB and was storing it on Google Drive. In a bid to win over Google customers, Dropbox falsely advertised unlimited storage. When I reached out to confirm if it was truly unlimited and if that would ever change, they said it would never change. I asked again and they confirmed. At that time I made the decision to take on the time consuming task of migrating my 3 Terabytes of data to Dropbox and purchasing their unlimited plan for $75USD a month. More than 6 times what I was paying Google, but the unlimited advertisement induced my decision as I knew I would be creating a lot more in the coming years. I paid this amount every month until they started taking more out without any advanced notice (as required by recurring payment laws). I reached out and they stated they overlooked it and apologized. Then, I received a notice that they would no longer offer unlimited and all customers they falsely advertised to and baited to switch from Google were now subject to incredible increases. For me, I have 14.3 TB. They said after 15, I'd have to buy increments of 5. When I reached out to complaint about the unethical business practices and breach of contract, they ignored my requests and simply copied and pasted the plan changes.
This illegal and false advertisement induced my purchase, had I known there was a possibility they would change their plan, I NEVER would have migrated my files and data to them. Now not only can I not afford to continue my storage, I have to seek another solution, pay for that which may cost thousands if I have to move to a server, and spend the time replacing all of my file links for tens of thousands of pieces of data. Dropbox knew when it advertised to potential consumers about an unlimited plan that it was unsustainable. Dropbox willfully induced thousands of US consumers to switch to their company promising an unsustainable plan it never intended to offer forever, but instead, promised, in writing, to do so. Dropbox harmed so many consumers who have been complaining for months on end about how they were baited and switched by this illegal tactic. Dropbox should be forced to refund every customer it hoodwinked so we can find solutions with the funds we would have otherwise invested in another solution. I strongly urge if you are a customer of Dropbox to file complaints with the California State Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission so they can investigate

I work for a major multi billion dollar car company. We signed up for Dropbox to get signatures on certain legal documents. Nothing complicated. The price they quoted seemed like it would suffice but when we actually tried using their service, suddenly we needed to upgrade to a much more expensive program that went from $200 to $1200. I needed their services so we just paid it! Since it was synced with my folders and files on the company's network, Dropbox somehow was able to actually move some of my personal files into DropBox, one being my personal and business passwords to all my accounts. I had to move that entire folder back to my hard drive but many passwords were deleted when I did that. I contacted a Dropbox website customer service and never heard from anyone ever! When it came around to cancel my subscription with my company, they would not allow me to sign in without a 6 digit code which I still, to this day, cannot get. So how do I cancel a subscription without being able to log on. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

I've been using Dropbox for over a decade, back when Aaron first started it. They deleted my original account last month for "abuse", without specifying what or how I abused their service (which is confusing since I primarily just use them for occasional backups of other people's data. Luckily I had a full local copy or I'd have lost everything). I had a second account which I moved everything over to for the moment. Now the service has implemented a number of limitations and restrictions (literally the same data set that existed on the other account for over 12 years won't completely copy to the new account because some file types are no longer allowed). They have gradually reduced its usefulness to the point that I've moved to a month-to-month until I find a better alternative in the next 30 days. Sad to say, but whoever has been running this once great option has all but ruined it. Run, run far far away...

I just spent the last few days trying to regain ownership of thousands of business files that were transferred to the ownership of one of my companies. This should never have happened - a three-day time-suck that could have resulted in serious damages! Deleting my Dropbox account immediately.

One of the first cloud services, always worked good but latest updates are increasing the size of the app and make it less practical, with more functions that go unnoticed. A service like this one should merge with the user interface without adding more value than the one is supposed to offer: cloud storage. Still a good service but falling behind Google Drive and iCloud.

This app is terrible. I can not get anything to download from my cell after the initial download. The app is so slow it's killing me. I dont have hours upon hours to mess with this slow crap just to download my photos. Its not on my end, I have fiber internet and I am on a new computer. You won't be able to scroll through your pics smoothly, instead you can click down to scroll and wait a few minutes for it to move or catch up. I am very unsatisfied with this app. I just want to save my dam cell pics so i can free up space from the constant crap updates. What a giant head ache! Wish I could get my money back.

Even with a paid service, they do not have live customer service, just bot replies. They disabled my account for no reason. I sup tin 6 service tickets and not replay for 12 days. The auto-reply said to use "Dropbox Community" to get help from one of their dropbox ambassadors. You can use the Community form unless you log in. So I have to create another account under another email and pay $120. On the community form, when I ask for help, explained what had happened, that I count no log on and have to pay again to try to get some help, the and then blocked me from community support for no reason except that they did not like the face I said something about paying twice. Do not use this service if your files are important. Luckily, I have my file on my computer hard drive or would have lost all my personal and business files. I have been paying for dropbox for 10 years and they have really gotten bad. Again, AVOID if you value your time and file!

I think in these days where sustainability, inclusion, recycling and climate problems dominate, the client should be supported in keeping a computer as long as possible.

When organisations like Dropbox (or Adobe, or Apple) limit their systems, and force users into a new operatingsystem since the desktopapp of Dropbox otherwise won't work, they exclude a large number of people on this planet. They cannot use the app on their outdated systems. They force their clients to eventually buy new computers when it's no longer possible to upgrade the operating system.

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE TO CONSIDER TO ACTUALLY BUY A NEW COMPUTER BECAUSE OF THE DROPBOX APP!

(A yeah, Dropbox says 'but you can still sync the files'….sorry but the app is needed for saving and opening files! It's my work that's affected!)

Dropbox is not user friendly anymore.

So, I am truly shocked that Dropbox is not investing in several solutions or offers 'older' apps for different operating systems.
Dropbox could and should be an example in contributing to sustainability, inclusion, recycling and climate problems and use this to promote their company as well.

I used Dropbox.com to share some video files with some friends, which required me to have a paid account. It was a short term need. When I wanted to cancel my dropbox account, I mistakenly thought that I could just delete my account and that would stop the billing. However, it did not. I learned later that there is a way to cancel when I still had my account, but I could not get back in to use that approach. I repeatedly attempted to contact support and got no responses. Finally, after six weeks of failed attempts, I contacted sales so that I could talk with a person. Even the sales folks are not allowed to contact support directly. They did submit a ticket for me, but it did no good. After another two weeks, I eventually had to cancel my debit card so they would quit billing me. This was the worst customer support experience I have ever had. Not only did I have to cancel my card, which was a hassle, but I have no hope of being reimbursed for the two months when I did not use the service but was still being billed.

Tip for consumers:
Carefully follow the instructions for canceling your paid service. Do not delete your account until you are sure that you are no longer being billed.

I have had a personal paid dropbox account for years. I rarely ever log in to the web version. One super annoying thing is the ease in which you can move folders without meaning to and then the next time you go to dropbox everything is missing. Requires you to login to web and see your activity. Then find that 20,000 files and dozens of folders were accidentally moved to some super obscure folder without intending to. I have had google and MS folders for many more years than dropbox and never once has that happened. I asked dropbox to make this accidental folder moving more difficult a few years ago, but since it just happened again, apparently they don't think it's an issue. You used to be able to talk to customer support but no longer. It's frightening to open dropbox and to see a whole huge body of work, years of work and files, simply vanished. OK they are't permanently gone (not yet anyway) but still I never asked to move that folder (containing thousands of files and subfolders) to that obscure totally unrelated folder, so it shouldn't have happened.
