Top Positive Review

“Best Website to giveaway free licensed software!”

Mass S.

I would not say every free software the site giveaways are great, but some of them are really-really useful. Software like video converters, IObit's are worth. There are few other websites that try doing the same, however, those websites are not active and don't provide a good deal as this does!

Top Critical Review

“Avoid Giveaway of the Day - Crap Software”

Minus 5 Star rating. The Company is a Scam. They don't want genuine feedback, they delete your comments when they are not favourable and the software they offer is with equally unconscionable companies. Should not be allowed to continue with deceptive behaviour

Love the idea of the site. Now and then there is actually some decent software on it. Unfortunately, the bulk of the software given away is either buggy, useless for most, or comes from China complete with tracking code built in. I have never come across anything that is actually infected with any type of virus or malware. Those that run the site seem to do a decent job of vetting the software prior to release.

The bulk of the software given away comes with no benefits at all. No free upgrades, updates, or support of any kind. You MUST download, install, and activate the software on the day of the giveaway. If you miss that date or have a problem with installation or activation, you are out of luck (no free support, remember).

Way back, the giveaways were almost always a lifetime license, provided you didn't uninstall or attempt to update the software. Doing so would result in the software going back to a trial version. The trend lately is software that has only a 6-month to 1-year license. There is still some lifetime software given away, but for the most part, that has disappeared.

Censorship in the comments area is really bad. Giving an honest review that might contain something negative or some form of constructive criticism, AND IS BACKED BY FACTS that are typed into the comments, either gets edited out or removed from the site completely. Any negative review that just contains a statement with no backing facts seems to get left behind, probably to give the appearance that they aren't biased or censoring. I've experienced this many times, unfortunately.

The "rating" system for each giveaway is easily gamed by the software manufacturer so that their offering appears to be liked by the majority, even when it's not. Anybody can give it a thumbs up of thumbs down, even if they don't download the software. Then there is the fact that clicking the thumbs up button instantly increments the count, yet clicking the thumbs down button then prompts you for a reason before submitting the selection. The thumbs down doesn't increment the count at all. I can only assume they vet the voter's reason for the thumbs down and decide if they want to allow that particular down vote to even show up.

Because of this ridiculous voting system setup, I wouldn't advise that you rely on the votes as a way to decide if the days giveaway is good or not. Looking through past giveaways is a good indication of this. I have seen comments made by others that have been around the site longer than I have, that also feel the same way I do about the votes.

Tip for consumers:
Don't believe everything you see or read.

Giveaways are often the cheapest way to advertise and can be useful for getting feedback; and these opportunities can be a boon for consumers. Giveaway of the Day offers free software from well-known companies, that otherwise would cost you. You can sign up on the site for alerts by email or RSS.

I love this site, they give away full versions of new and, tried and tested software. I get about 50% of my software here, plus if you read the reviews, at least those that have downloaded the item, you can sometimes get names of other software to try too.

This is how it works, each day there is a different software product available for free, you have 24 hours to download and register it, you don't get tech support unless it's with the download or registration process. No free upgrades, but if you leave feedback, the best suggestion usually gives you something like a free license from the company. The only drawback is if for any reason you have to re install your OS then you can't re register this software. They do have repeats but, I've found that using Horizon RX enables me to try all the software out there without ever having to worry about malware or virus laden software or sites, so I never have to re install my OS, other than HD failure of course.

You will find some products or companies that you've heard of before. You won't find the likes of Adobe or Microsoft on here, obviously they don't need to give away their products for feedback.

Like any other testing site you will have to wade through reviews from people who have no idea what they are doing or talking about, but there are lots of folk who do so, give it a try it's a safe and legit site, and a great place to try out software that you might not want to buy but just need for a short while.

I took a look at the site and it appears they are giving away demo and trial versions of the software. The software looks very legit and doesn't appear illegal in any way. It is just a platform for developer to get new users to their software. On today's free give away it clearly says "The program is available for $29.95, but it will be free for our visitors as a time-limited offer." Which means, the program will expire and then you will have to pay to continue using it. Many software companies include big ones like adobe do this on a regular basis. So, the software really isn't "free" the trial/demo is free. Still not a bad way to check out new software.

I have visited this site today to try and see if I could find a particular screensaver that I loved from years ago. It is called bad dog from a software I had years ago. The maker of this software is after dark. This screensaver is a little white dog with a black ring around his eye. He is really cool. He is on your desktop going all over digging holes in your screen and jumping in and out. After he rips up your screen enough you see him inside your computer chewing on the inside until he electrocutes himself. He keeps doing this until your entire screen is gone. Then he starts all over again. While he is reeking havoc on your screen he stops to scratch his fleas and you hear his owner yell BAD DOG. When he yells at him the dog puts his tail between his legs and creeps away in a frightened mood. After a few seconds he starts being bad dog again. He pushes out a trash can and knocks it over too. Really cool I love bad dog. In this software there are other really cool screen savers. If you go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=7azwnqyHd94 you can see a 9 minute show on bad dog. I am trying to find a download for bad dog. I think I may still have the disc from years ago. I think that I need a newer version that is compatible with the Windows I have now. This site claims to have bad dog, I reviewed the entire 10 pages of downloads they have and bad dog is not there. I don't know why they say they have bad dog. I would not recommend a site that says they have something they don't. I hope everyone checks him out on youtube he is cool cool cool. Since I have had this software before it is safe to install on your computer if you can find the software. I have searched amazon, yahoo, e-bay and sites like this one. So maybe someone can help me find my lost bad dog. Lorraine W.
