“The best of the best in Web Hosting”

Mike E.
5/23/22

I've been hosting with Hostpapa for many years without any issues. I have multiple Wordpress websites and recently have upgraded to their managed Wordpress web service. They offer the best customer support if you ever run into any issues. I strongly recommend them.

“Do not trust”

Do not give this company your credit card. They charged my card for an extra line item to the tune of $650 without my consent, after years of simple domain name renewals at $22.59. And they refuse to refund me the extra charge. I've had to submit a dispute through my credit card. Absolutely shocked by this - no invoice, no receipt, just a wild charge and refusal to refund. DO NOT TRUST!

DO NOT TRUST!! Monitor your account billing/payments DAILY -- don't trust the emails they send not showing actual transaction amounts. Check your credit card statements - they will over charge you and refuse to refund!

I am a long time client of hostpapa. Recently I started receiving emails from a hostpapa account manager saying there is some "issue" (that was unspecified) and that if I did not upgrade (adding $49.95 a month) they would suspend the account in 24 hours. However, no specific issue was given (just that there was an issue). In addition, my account control panel shows no issues for the services they are providing. This actually sounds fraudulent and I certainly would NOT recommend hostpapa to anyone. ZERO stars! (if I could)

Been with Lunar pages for decades - now that Hostpapa bought them out its horrible, expensive and uses all the rotten tricks. Bait and switch, insane monthly rates for one Wordpress website. Capped bandwidth. Just a horrible hosting company stay away.

As a corporate customer, we have experienced the most chaotic web provider with the worst service we have encountered anywhere in the world over the last 20 years. One gets the impression that one hand does not know what the other is doing, or one might come to the conclusion that this behavior is intentional, which seems more likely to us now. Two unsuccessful attempts to cancel all services, with only the third attempt after weeks seeming to work. Charges continue to be made to the credit card even after this was disputed by us at the first attempt. There are no refunds, with the explanation that the charge occurred before the cancellation was processed. From our perspective, this behavior is no longer just dubious but outright criminal, especially given that this does not appear to be an isolated case but many other users report similar experiences. We have passed the matter on for review to our legal team and issued a warning about this hosting service across our entire corporate group.

I had a simple photo website with at most 100-200 meg of traffic per month. All was good for many years, then suddenly I receive nasty grams that I'm using too much resources. When a hosting company tries this scam, I just shut down my site and see if it is a scam. Sure enough, Hostpapa kept sending the nastygrams that I had to upgrade due to the massive traffic on my site (which wasn't even up).
Pure sleaze!

I have a very simple need for basic email hosting and a single 1 page website - no ecommerce. Lured in with what appeared to be an inexpensive & simple solution soon added up. They love sneaking in extra charges and annual fees which first appeared to be part of their 3 year package, but soon you realise aren't. They are not very transparent with charges and fees. Soon I was paying considerably more and receiving way less than I expected.
I have to manually download back up almost every second day or the back up fails with no more space as the backup they offer at a basic level gets you nowhere and has to be manually deleted when full before it continues the service.
Support personnel have also been somewhat arrogant and rude giving me the impression I am wasting their time when I call with an issue.
I have no intention of renewing with them and even considering moving before my 3 years are up, joining them has been the worst decision I have made.

Tip for consumers:
Look into the fine print and investigate all the little extra charges before making a decision - they are not as transparent as they appear!

Started getting emails that my site has exceeded resource limits. I took my site down, there is no transmissions and I still got emails. Many reviews state that this is a ploy to make a customer upgrade to a more expensive product. The support person I spoke with did a tap dance and said the sales person would call me. I didn't need sales, I needed tech support. I reviewed my cPanel and there are no malicious scripts or files. I also scanned my site. This sounds a bit fishy to me.

Since I moved my services to Hostpapa, I was getting nothing but harassment.
"You exceeded your backup quota'
'You exceeded your email quota'
"Your website is too big"
"You need to upgrade for your website to load faster"

I am paying for the biggest plan they have and I have just a normal business website, not e-commerce or something extraordinary.
I have upgraded my backup and now my overall bill comes to hundreds of dollars because there is no transparency from the beginning.
Worst experience ever.

400% more expensive than average for hosting. Tech support are not trained to communicate effectively with the general public. Unless you're an IT nerd, you don't want hosting with these people. They are unhelpful expensive geeks.

They recorded customer's credit card and renew with a very, very and very expensive price for customer automatically without authorization from customer. This was done during the Covid pandemic period. We don't have staff to check the bank details daily. The renew has 3-4 times priced above your initial order. However when we try to use it, it says your resource is limited which can not support a very small website setup. We had never been able to setup a very basic website and the system always says the resource limit. And ask us the pay more money above the $738.53 they have charged in this year. Be careful when you buy service form this company. A really rubbish business which is originated from Canada.

Tip for consumers:
Check this website https://au.sitejabber.com/ and Productreview.com.au before you buy their service in Australia. It seems that they bought google ads. So you can find almost all feedbacks on google review are good. However it's absolutely not.

They give you very small I/O limits so literally any wordpress plugin installation or updates will cause it to go over and then they'll try to pressure you into upgrading to their ultimate plan, even if all you have is a static site with 4 visitors a week. It's scammy.

Inadequate response to a complaint related to the hosting fee – website and account termination with no notice
Simply shocking behaviour after my complaint asking for a refund (reasons summarized below) – Hostpapa terminated the website as well as my account with them with no notice whatsoever, giving me no time to make new webhosting arrangements! Unbelievable!

Utterly appalling and disgusting customer care received from Nicolae D. (ticket #*******), who did not even try to understand my points, ignored my questions and always provided a lengthy and meaningless replies. As the situation was going nowhere, I requested information about Hostpapa regulatory authority to escalate my complaint and mentioned that this issue might be taken to court if they are not willing to make it right. As a result, the website hosting and the account with Hostpapa were terminated with no notice.

THE ISSUE: at the end of the first billing cycle there were two emails: first one stated that "HostPapa service is due for renewal just 30 days from now", the second one said: "Total due: £ 0.00", therefore it was my understanding that nothing to be paid at that point. Only 1.5 month later when the bank statements came through there was a transaction with unexpectedly inflated hosting fee, that increased by 328% compared to its original value. I complained to Hostpapa stating that (i) I was not informed about the x3.3 times price increase for their services, (ii) was not informed that it is going to be taken for 3 years in one go (iii) I did not authorise that payment and, very importantly, (iv) received a misleading email with "Total due: £ 0.00" not even prompting to check the attachment very deep below that actually had a number of £561.17 to pay.

Therefore, I asked Hospapa either (i) to price match their fee to the original payment of £170.64 or (ii) to terminate the agreement with the refund of unused hosting duration…. Considering the situation (points above), it could have been a fair resolution I believe.

In response to that I was offered: (i) website hosting termination with no refund or (ii) 30% discount after ~330% price increase. As I was not happy with either option, I asked for the details on their regulating authority and, as a result, my account and the website were deleted…. Shocking, isn't it? Zero reply, no notice of termination…. Nothing.

Definitely not the webhosting provider you want to deal with. It feels like it is their system to deceive you with zeros in "total due" and not inform you about the actual amount to be taken (inflated enormously), and when you realize that they response would be "No refunds".

On top of that they would disrupt your business with the website termination with no advanced notices as a penalty that you dared to complain perhaps.

It is a Canadian based company and shokingly they treat a UK customers as dirt, who cares. Yet, as they have a registered UK office this case will be reported to the Trading Standards, UK.

Good luck with your business Hostpapa

Host Papa is terrible. They destroyed a great company (Lunarpages) when they took it over. Host Papa is desperate for money - constantly trying to upsell and always threatening to take down your site. I was with Lunarpages since the 90's without a single problem. Now, I spend more time responding to Host Papa's relentless emails about my usage - than anyone should. If you have more than 2 visitors per month to your site - or even if you don't - be prepared for "over use of resources" emails filled with threats. They sold the service, now they don't want to honor it, or need more money. Go somewhere else, stay away from Host Papa.

Great first year pricing and you expect to pay more after the first year, but when you get your renewal email it tells you the new price, but not all the extra fees. If you trust the email and don't actually look at the invoice you will get a chock that over $100 extra will be taken out of your account, over the higher price.
Not the cheap option they advertise.

Expect MUCH higher prices after the first year

When I first started using them I gave them a 5 star review. That was until May of 2020 when I was a 10 months into my 3 year contract on a "Business" plan (see image).

Like dozens or hundreds of others have reported (when I decided to complain I found over a hundred complaints so far to BBB, Ad Council of Canada, and other review and information sites), they threatened me over a secret metric called "Entry Points". On a site with extremely low traffic, a rogue search decided to aggressively index my site. Their response was to demand that I pay over $400 to upgrade to a high-performance host or they would suspend my account.

I added filtering to block the known robots, and it happened again. This time they locked out my Cpanel and suspended all of my sites and demanded that I upgrade. There is no traffic, it is lucky that I had not moved my main business site over to them yet.

To threaten suspension and/or demand a $400 plan upgrade for exceeding an unpublished limit (in fact an implied unlimited parameter, since the related metrics are either unlimited or unmetered) is unacceptable. Having a salesperson be the point of contact for a technical issue is a conflict of interest at best.

Once the suspension occurs, ONLY the salesperson can remove the suspension. The escalation team works at glacial speed (relative to technology) and only communicates via email.

You lied and got me to upgrade when I didn't need it, offered me a $50 credit to make up for it (but never gave it to me), told me that I had to PAY if I wanted to downgrade from the plan I was manipulated and lied into getting, tried to get me to renew a year early and forfeit my last year on a great price, took away any admin tools to monitor my own file safety, charged my credit card A MONTH IN ADVANCE OF RENEWAL WITHOUT MY PERMISSION, and then took ZERO responsibility and showed no remorse for doing so... and then offered me a 10% discount on your inflated prices. But other than that, you're pretty $#*!ing awesome! Good riddance.

I've had my site with Hostpapa since launching it in 2015 and I am absolutely useless when it comes to technology. With that in mind, Hostpapa have always been incredible with their customer support, as they're incredibly quick to respond and will always take the time to help you fix a problem. They have a customer for life in me.

I am only with Hostpapa because I was with Lunarpages since day 1 of my site, and they sold to Hostpapa and I haven't been happy with the change, but no real issues until my site is now infected with malware and they took over 12 hours to reply to my support ticket and have done NOTHING to help with the problem, they only want more MONEY!
I will not be giving this lacking, horrible, ill ran company any more money! I will be taking my site elsewhere and they can have the infection that they won't help deal with.
AVOID this hosting company unless you like to be gouged.

When deciding to purchase HostPapa service, I pointedly asked the sales representative if there was automatic renewal of service.

I was told: NO.

Now, I see I'm billed $400 for a renewal I did not ask for. I had no intention of renewing owing to bad service.
