“Do not do it unless you need a "now" job”

This is just a paycheck job and nothing more. Do not expect anything special from it. I don't even know why they bother with this website. All candidates are selected before they even post these job postings. Pros Health insurance Steady paycheck Union 10% discount on store brand items Ability to transfer to different stores within union and across country & keep seniority Computer training to use "equipment" but not how to deal with customer service Right candidate could go far Cons Racist 1970 male oriented white run. $0.10 cents above minimum wage Hour games to keep you at lower rate of pay Hour games to get long term maxed out individuals to quit 5 (or more) years before you see a pay raise at 40 hrs a week without hour games (this excludes the years of waiting to get to journeyman pay scale) No holiday pay for first 12 months o Holidays = mandatory for new hires = a lot of no shows on holidays Variable pay grades Little if at all cross training into other departments Male oriented preferred Zero training preferred individuals Normal individuals always preferred over disableds Customer harassment - customers are rude, belittling, arrogant, uptight and often rude and demeaning. This will be about 50% of your clientele and experiences. Coworker harassment Discrimination harassment Guilty party not punished. Innocent party generally punished for guilty party stupidity, arrogance, demeaning belittlement and customer stupidity. Seniority generally rules over who is right and who is wrong. Verbally threaten you with write ups for pretending to enforcing the rules while others get away with much, much more. No water or drinks at kiosk or check stand without a doctors note? Seriously!@#$ Demeaning coworkers that over coach and belittle despite your experience Discrimination from all sides Union o Union can not help you in the "Now" o Union only keeps you from getting fired without just cause and that's about it. o Union use to fight for more but we've been loosing rights. Last contract around 2015 workers lost holiday pay and steps between pay raises went from 12 months at 40 hrs a week to 3 years and that's if you can get 40 hours a week without hour games. o Union use to get us dollar pay raises now it's cents if that Tailored coupons with "free" or "$x" dollar amount are no longer given to employees Despite the fact we are given a free turkey at Thanksgiving you still have to pay like $30 for it and the customers are getting a better deal than us. Seniority dictates hours Hour fluxuation games Team work is not split equaly. Generally 80% to 10% if that. No customer service training to know how to handle different situations Disableds generally go no hire than cashier if lucky. Promotions more than often go to males Promotions go to individuals of favoritism Promotions to females are rare and generally "carefully" selected Promotional opportunities are slow Promotional opportunities generally go towards individuals that require little to no training Disableds are very rarely promoted Customers are allowed to threaten and harass you verbally all they want and be a total d*ick to you. We have no rights against this c*rap. Takes forever to get a customer banned from a store and generally it's too late when they do. Customer is always right. They need to make a rule that dictates when the customer is right and being a total a*ss hole and needs to be kicked out of the store for the safety of the employees Technology challenged customers will harass your ear off verbally about using self-check. Digital coupons are useless as we spend more time hearing the customer harass us about how they can not use them. Or we spend more time with the customer in walking through the how to than actually doing our job. If the customer uses the wrong number no coupon and we get a c*rap lecture about how we're the guilty party. I've been employed with Kroger for close to 10 years now and it's only a paycheck job and that's it. You get treated higher than a hobo and lower than a farm worker. You get very little respect and much disrespect from the general public. Do not expect to be treated very well when working grocery. Trust me you will loose your personality here after a few years. I know because it's happening to me. The moral in Kroger stores is so low they're having an incredibly high rate of turn over. Do it if you need a now job otherwise avoid at all costs.
