“Years later, chugging along with a change of owners”

Big lotro fan, love the game and the way it plays. They've gone F2P with the chance to buy 'modules' or quest zones and expansion packs in the game. While not a mainstream MMO it's still a solid one. The graphics are a little dated since they tried to go a little more realistic with the setting (even though the characters themselves are more cartoonish). The game didn't seem to age well but it's one I enjoy going back to off and on to explore and find what they've changed.

“Not as many well designed quests as world of warcraft...”

Not as many well designed quests as world of warcraft and it doesn't really feel like you are part of the LOTR universe as much as it could have. For new people I would recommend world of warcraft.

Just a quick note to tell all of my fellow sitejabber friends that LOTR MMO is now FREE for everyone to play. They are adopting the strategy of giving free memberships to everyone and then those who want to upgrade can pay the extra few dollars a month for the goodies. Good concept and I expect other games to follow suit soon. They clearly need a facebook version of this game to really mainstream.

The story of lotr are good. Played the trial version of it. The graphics are good, but i don't think the quality of the game fits the standard of a gamer.

Enter middle earth on the best online RPG - This game stays pretty true to the tolkien books and the movie; fans of the genre will be very happy with the accuracy.

It is not quite as polished as WoW, nor does it have any PVP aspect, but what it has is a stronger quest system and better storyline. The tradeoff is that nobody is quite sure how long LOTRO will last. Turbine had better keep cranking out quests and moving the plot along or subscribers will get bored.

These guys are now offering a free trial of their game to get people playing. Pretty good deal to be able to download it and test it out for free. If you quit, they will a month later offer you another free trial, so plenty of ways to play for free right now. Not quite as good of a game as Blizzard's WOW, but not bad either and for those who are LOTR fans the main characters are all over the game. Link for download
