“Great Service and Excellent Turn Out!”

I found Mr. Handyman after searching for a handyman to repair a wood door that my dog chewed up. After calling 4 different handyman companies, Mr. Handyman is the only company to call me back. They were quick to schedule an appointment for my repair with a quick turn around. Their representatives are very professional. I would definitely utilize their services again in the future.

After a terrible experience replacing my tub, in which the quality was bad and i had holes knocked through my bathroom drywall in to my bedroom, and the job wasnt finished, i left a post on their web page. The owner agreed to finish the job if i removed the post. The owner then pulled my post, never finished the job, and wont return my phone calls! Mr Handyman home page has all good reviews because they take down the bad ones!

OMG. I asked for an estimate to replace a smoke detector on a 12 foot ceiling that I could not reach. I have the smoke detector just need removal of the old and install the new. 5 minute job. I've already replaced 4 in this condo that I could reach. My place is 15 minutes from their shop in West Knoxville. They wanted to charge me $198. Are you kidding me? A 45 minute round trip job. So their rates are over $200 an hour. I'll never use them or recommend them. Just gonna rent a ladder and do it myself.

Full disclosure: I am a senior citizen and did not use their services (sic).

Needed, a relatively simple, repair job. Just more than I thought I could do. I was directed to their web site and received an estimate. A BIG estimate. Nearly $200

Eventually I received other estimates that ranged between $35 and $60.

I could buy this new for approx. $119.

This business has way too much overhead!

Went with a service with a lower estimate.

So after you call with worthless answering service, they allegedly have a handyman call who never calls or gives you a 12 hour window! Really? Most people I know have jobs that don't allow them to wait in a house from 6am to 6 pm waiting for a call and still they never even tell you if they can handle your job. $#*! customer service

Tip for consumers:
Worst receptionist in history

Products used:
Nothing , totally incompetent

Unfortunately, my experience with Mr. Handyman service provider did not go well. The young lady that I set up the appt. With Bailey, did not staff my job order properly. The job required 2 people and she only sent out one person who was very nice but did not feel comfortable doing the job by himself. He even stated that when he saw the job order he knew that it would require 2 people. Needless to say the job was not completed because I did not feel comfortable with the person who came as he did not seem confident that I would be pleased with the job. Not to mention the price quoted on site was quadrupled the quite that I was given by Bailey by phone. She lied and tried to say that she quote me a much higher price range which was totally not true. It's very sad how dishonest people and companies are these days. We are living in a "get over on you world" and Mr. Handyman falls within that category.

No integrity. I discussed the project and got a price on January 24. I texted on February 9 that I wanted to move forward. But I asked for the estimate in writing since I had only gotten a verbal. I finally got the estimate on February 21, and it was $400 more expensive. Okay. I accepted the explanation.
Then they sent someone out to officially measure the doors. The original quote included two doors, or slab, and four doors plus frames, or pre-hung. The guy who came out said I only needed two pre-hung doors. Pre-hung doors are more expensive, so the price should come down right? Wrong. The final quote came in, not only with no change in price, but with an additional fee for using a credit card. I wasn't even asked whether I was going to pay by credit card. No decrease in price for the change from pre-hung to slab.
I asked why the price didn't come down. He said there was no difference in price. He had already told me before, and I knew, that there is a difference in price. I replied that, with no difference in price, I should get all of them pre-hung. He then replied that there would be a difference in labor. Using that logic, I reasoned with him that the price should have decreased if just because of the labor. He then said he wasn't going to nickel and dime the price. But that's exactly what he did.

Why you should never waste your time and money on Mr. Handyman. Com
Mr. Handyman's representative arrived at 8 am and we chatted for a good twenty minutes, (wife having knee surgery and many unrelated jobs that he had done,) while he stared at the windows. I was charged 180$ that first hour, which included this lengthy and drawn out estimate. I needed two window frames rebuilt, as well as other jobs for later.
I was never told that I would be charged for an estimate and was never given a quote of time or costs for job. He just basically said, we will see how bad it is. I was told that he wasn't sure how long it would take, considering that there might be rot in the walls. There wasn't. I was told that he would have to see when he got into it and that he could likely get both in on 9/6 if there were no problems. There wasn't. Only one frame getting done that day was 'worst case scenario'.
I wanted metal framing, but he said it wasn't possible. I have found out that it is possible from another contractor.
I was given something to sign so that he could do work, never got to read it, never had it explained to me, was rushed, he wouldn't let go of the electronic so I could read it. I requested a copy of the document signed to start work. I was never given a copy of this document and never got to look at it, though company refuses to give it.
The window frame was ripped out quickly and the service provider was off to Home Depot, leaving a hole in the side of my house uncovered, when it was very hot outside, close to 90 degrees. He was gone for an hour and a half. The store is 7 miles away. That was a very expensive trip to the store in labor, because I had to pay for that. (180$) That is way too much time, and I can't see receipts to know what was really bought, when it was done, and I don't trust that it wasn't inflated. The company has refused to give me those receipts.
The hole was left like that for many hours, I had to cover it myself and he worked in five-minute intervals. It was clear he was working very slowly and purposefully adding unnecessary time to his labor charge. He was behind my building and his van for long periods of time. I have looked up averages for this job and the highest estimate is around 3-4 hours.
I was billed from the moment he stepped foot on my property to the moment he left. No lunch or breaks?
He took an hour and a half to clean up, ten minutes to vacuum a spot a few feet squared and that was twenty dollars. It was actually ten minutes before 3:30 when he came in with an electronic bill and no way to give me a receipt. When I called Mr. Handyman to request a receipt on materials and services, I was told that it was the company's property and went against their privacy or something. I was assured that a receipt would be sent to me by the service provider, but I never got anything in writing whatsoever, just a guy in my house with my kids, demanding over 1350 on the spot, far more than I should have had to pay for one window frame to be fixed.
This experience was ridiculous and choosing Mr. Handyman was a huge mistake that I will not repeat. They took advantage of me, costs me hundreds more than the highest bid I've gotten since and when I tried to speak to some kind of representative, I was treated poorly, yelled at and then hung up on. I have never been treated so badly by a contractor before. This job costs me twice as much as it should have costs and I still have another window frame to be rebuilt. Stay away from this company!

Verified purchase

The workers who come are reliable, polite, and trustworthy. To add on twenty minutes to a two hour charge, one worker even unclogged a drain to be sure he worked the full two hours for the charge. Great guys.

Local Mr. Handyman - Spokane, WA.
After checking around google, making many phone calls and emails I came across Mr. Handyman, the local franchise located in my city. After a few calls with my many questions I decided to hire them.
They came out when they said, called on the way to let me know they were coming, and then once the repair guy got there, listened to me and actually cared about what I had to say and yes of course my budget. The fixed my rain gutters, well a few corners still needed some extra caulking, but without hesitation they came back out and fix the few leaks that were still there. They were professional and you could see and sense how much they cared about getting my job done right. I would give them a 5 star rating with out hesitation and will use them in the future as the need arises. They are GREAT!
