“A music community that is no longer about the music”

Avery J.
5/21/22

I joined a few years ago and originally started posting a lot about reggae and metal to share my love of those genres. However, there's little to no engagement in most users' journals, and several moderators censor and abuse their administrative capabilities to bully new users if they don't agree with them politically about an issue or have anything to say. Simply put, the website is more about reinforcing a far-left status quo echo chamber than it is about music and making people feel welcome, and they will edit and manipulate posts of people who don't have those administrative powers. In short, this is a community that thrives on abuse, discourages actual dialogue and has very little engagement with music-based discussion. Participate at your own risk.

Oh my gosh! What the heck! Biggest music group? More like biggest scam ever!

As bad as city data, same system, like city data made this... but, I got one pro about this so called forum...
—————————————————————————————————
Pro:
The layout is well done, colorful, and nicely colored, it's more better colored then the forum layout city data used too.

Cons:

They banned me for no reason, I did post ads about scratch and Roblox, but I was only doing that to publish this instrumental to one of my many songs, linked here: https :// storage. Cloudconvert. Com/tasks/cd18fa1b-40c9-4ddb-b4d2-ef6326ade33f/Need%20to%20do%21%20Instrumental%20. Mp3? AWSAccessKeyId=cloudconvert-production&Expires=*******404&Signature=lk2lA2Fjp8L%2BLpO13KwL%2FktZsIY%3D&response-content-disposition=attachment%3B%20filename%3D%22Need%20to%20do%21%20Instrumental%20. Mp3%22&response-content-type=audio%2Fmpeg

There limits are terrible, 15 posts to get a link to something, what scamming!

Bans are crazy here, they don't give you even a reason:/

The people there are just country boys drinking beer and sitting outside most of there lives, while i'm a musician/reviewer who was just starting making instrumental versions of songs and instrumental songs.

I don't recommend this site, although I see a decent layout, the site is the worst thing ever!

Tip for consumers:

This is a Lech Mazur scam designed to drive traffic to his city-data scam. If you're lucky, you'll be "spam-banned" within a day and you won't have to spend any more of your life than necessary on this idiotic excuse for a ripoff. Stay away.

It's rather amusing how some people last a few posts on MB and then cry about it being crap. One review here whines about being banned for linking to his or her music. Dude (or dudess)! It's in the rules, which if you read them state clearly we do not want people joining for the sole purpose of promoting their music. And there are reasons for this. Firstly, there are a hundred sites you can do that on. Music Banter is primarily a discussion forum. We want to know that you are coming here for the (ahem) banter, and intend to take part, not that you are a drive-by who will drop links to your music and then sod off. THAT's why you were banned. So be honest about it. It's not a reason to pan the site just because you couldn't be bothered to follow the rules.

I've been on the forum for about fourteen years, on and off, with some hiatuses. It annoys me when people reduce it to the kind of terms they are doing here. These people know nothing. Most forums today are generally used by people who may know each other in passing but are just commenting on this or that. There's no sense of community. One thing you get on Music Banter is that: community. We're more like a family - a very dysfunctional one, sure, but isn't everyone's family like that?

Since joining here I have made some serious and long-lasting friendships, and been exposed to some great music. No, we don't always discuss music, but that's the second part of our name, and we like to banter. There's nothing that says you have to be talking about music all the time. The people here have both got me through some terribly tough times and have helped others in their worst hours. We band together and support each other, and we also tear verbal strips off each other, call each other gay and invite each other to kill themselves and kiss various dubious parts of our anatomy, but it's all, as Kenny Everett once said, in the best possible taste.

I've had more engagement with these guys and girls than many a real life friend, and it's often been only their support and companionship which has kept me going from times were dark, which is why, despite leaving several times, I always come back, and I always will.

As for the journals, this is specious accusation. How can there be "no engagement" in journals? Are we, as authors, supposed to try to force people to comment? If anyone bothered to check the views for these journals, they would see that many are in the five or six-digit range: I have one (no longer maintained) that came close to half a million views. Not bad for "no engagement" huh?

Do me a favour: if Music Banter doesn't suit you, fine, go somewhere else. But stop bad-mouthing us on the basis of a very short, and in your experience, negative stay. You have no idea what you're talking about. This place may look like Hell to a newbie, but it's our Hell, and we likes it that way. We're friendly and engaging once you get to know us (well, some of us. Maybe) and we know the value of good discussion, good music and good relationships.

I joined Music Banter aged 45. I'm 50 this year and still here, and expect to be still around (assuming I'm alive when I'm 70, or even 80. That's how good this place is.

I have been a contented member of Music Banter for twelve years and I would like to correct some of the negative comments that have been posted here on sitejabber.
Firstly, Music Banter is free, so it shouldn't be accused of being a rip-off. Secondly, one reviewer complains of being banned for promoting his music, which is unfair to Music Banter; the site explicitly explains in its rules that it is NOT a site for self-promoting your own music. As the site name suggests, it's a site for people who'd like to chat about artists, albums, instruments etc. and it fulfills that function very well.
There are clearly deliniated threads for music, politics and other popular topics, although it's in the nature of things that these distinctions are often blurred over, just as they are when you are chatting with friends. And that would be my metaphor for Music Banter: a group of people talking about things they find interesting, but with the added bonus of quick access to a vast accumulation of album reviews, artist recommendations etc.
Traffic on Music Banter has been a little slow recently, but trust me, if you follow the normal kinds of forum rules and are not offensive, you will soon find yourself swapping opinions and recs in a friendly community of music enthusiasts. But yes, if you are looking for a site so that you can offer your own music to a wider audience, then you should look elsewhere to do that.
