“Phoenix Engine Highly Recommendable”

Georger G.
6/30/18

Having been a "motor head" for the past forty five years I was very impressed when I visited Phoenix Engine Rebuilders for the first time. Turns out the owner, Randy and I were cruising central at the same time years ago. In a day when honesty, integrity and expertise in engine building at a reasonable price are hard to find you wont be disappointed purchasing an engine from Phoenix Engine. They have a knowledgeable staff with the skills, machinery and facility to produce hi performance engines. They stand behind what they sell and they are the only engine builders I found to offer the Fast Track service. When you purchase the fast track option your engine is fully run on a test stand, carburetor is jetted properly, valves set and engine is timed properly. You receive an engine that is ready to bolt in and run. This eliminates the buyer from having to do the break in procedures that are critical on a high performance engine. Many people don't have the knowledge to do this properly which can result in engine failure. I've been thru their facility. They do all work in house, thus giving them better quality control. These aren't assembly line engines being thrown together in a few hours which often sell for less money. As someone once said you get what you pay for. If you want a quality built motor with quality parts I would highly recommend Phoenix Engine for your next engine build. Randy will work with you to build the engine that is best for your application.

1000 miles and the engine started going bad. Then noticed parts that had bean either badly fitted and fitted incorrectly. Inlet manifold leaking. Letting oil run down the back of the block, into the bell housing and contaminating the clutch. Due to not been skimmed. Core plug placed wrong way around. Crank thrust bearing bad. This was noticed when there was 37thou play in the flywheel when they should be 5thou. Phoenixengine.com no longer reply to messages. There customer service should read. No customer service as for photos. The file seems to be too large to be able to down load them but I will put them on face book.

I worked for Randy at Phoenix Engine in the mid 90's. I have never met a bigger crook in my life! Randy would quote the customer an industry price for a rebuilt engine, even though he was rebuilding it himself. Then he would add an itemized list for everything in the rebuild, effectively charging his customers twice for the same things. For instance, new valves were put into any engine rebuilt by the two biggest rebuilders in the state, Engine Supply and Roadrunner Engine. But Randy would call the customer and tell them his valves were worn out of spec and needed to be replaced. He would quote the price for new valves and if the customer balked, he would charge him a lesser amount for a set of valves, the customers original valves! He did this over the phone and recorded everything! I was at the time his store manager, and he even recorded my calls. My calls home to my wife when something came up, and calls to from my driver when he was picking up parts. They say I walked out went like this. Randy was in court, again, over his business practices. While he was gone a customer came back with a very rough engine he had just had installed. I had my best mechanic take a look at it and he determined it was a cracked distributor cap. We replaced it for free and the customer left being satisfied. When Randy returned, I filled him in on what we had done. Randy became angry saying we were supposed to sell him a carburator, which would give the greedy bastard more money. Then he said, "We need to find out how much money Customer X has so we can get it." Really? Now my driver had been checking with all the vendors we bought parts for in to an, and would call me back with a nine here or there. As I walked off the sales floor he said to me, you're not going to get another Job in Auto Parts, I'm telling everyone you were selling and buying drugs in my phones! Remember he recorded everything! I ended up working for Federal Mogul, (owners of TRW, Sealed Power, Carter fuel system parts), on their 1-800 technical assistance hotline. He, well I'm writing this because I don't want to see anyone else be taken advantage of. If his son is now running the buiseness things might be different. Please research everything you can before spending you're hard earned money with him.

Tip for consumers:
Be careful and research everything that can be purchased before buying. There are several reputable rebuilders and Crate Engine sources, two of which I know are in AZ.

Not a damn thing!
