“Excellent experience”

I read the bad reviews and decided to go ahead with the freebie version. The matches they sent me were all very close matches (except most had cats to which I am allergic). I ended up resolving my situation another way, and emailed RoomieMatch to advise so and asked them to cancel my subscription and not send me any more matches. Emails stopped coming two days later. I have zero complaints. Worked exactly as promised and I didn't need to ask more than once to cancel. 10/10.

“Such rude customer service”

I literally paid for their cheap option and found a roommate without them and decided id need another roommate in a few months because i'm subletting. I emailed this when they asked if i was still active and i got a very rude response back. Next time i won't pay for your $#*!ing service jeez. Also their matching percentages were terrible in terms of actual compatibility- i had to do half the sorting myself.

Verified purchase

Used Roomiematch to try and find a roommate in Denver. I had read a lot of reviews criticizing the company for being rude to consumers, but that didn't bother me as long as the service worked. Unfortunately, I am not confident that the service does anything. Out of the dozens of emails I received and responded to I got almost no responses. Would not recommend it for trying to find a roommate.

I received about 20 matches. In order to get their contact info, I had to pay for the upgrade. I paid and got their contact information, and emailed them, and nobody has ever replied. And as soon as I paid, I stopped receiving new matches. I have never got another match, which makes me wonder if those matches are real or not. Just a waste of money. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

I never subscribed to the mass emails that make 0 sense, I asked them to unsubscribe me and they wrote me:
In the future, if you don't want to subscribe to something, you shouldn't go through the whole confirmation process where you pick up the email sent to your email address and enter the number, OK?

That's how NOT to subscribe. Don't do ALL of that, OK? Thanks.

I believe they have sociopaths working for them. I can't figure out any other explanation for this hostile message to me. I posted an ad for my mother who is a senior who needs a roommate by April 1 I started with the free service but then I realized after getting about 10 emails with matches or supposed matches that in order to view them I would need to upgrade. So I paid the money to upgrade the service. I still cannot access the matches, so I sent a nice email to them simply asking how do I access these messages now that I have paid the money since I was still having problems accessing them. Rather than send me instructions to help me out, I got a very rude response saying we refunded your upgrade fee good luck elsewhere! I'm thinking this is just a big scam or that they are age discriminating here. There is no other explanation.

Tip for consumers:
These people are confused, hostile and don’t know what they’re doing. They respond inappropriately to your question and will not help you at all if you have a problem. They pretty much give you the middle finger if you ask a question

I am legitimately trying to find a roommate and they just reject me for some reason. (I wouldn't know unless I emailed them because they don't notify you). I typed a lot on the freeform questions to the point I thought I was being too wordy. Like what do they want? Also the frontpage of the site almost turned me off entirely.

"find a roommate without
SCAMS
Slimeball rip-off artists screened out"

You are also screening out legitimate people. So is it worth it? That's why they have such awful ratings...

Tip for consumers:
I guess write an essay on the free form questions? I don't know this site is strange; use something else.

I first posted a profile that was open to all kinds of listings: rooms for rent, people looking for rooms, people looking to find an apartment with someone. I found an apartment on my own, then paid the $20 to use the full service and submitted a second profile using the same email address, following the instructions on their website. I was trying to advertise an available room. The site never updated my profile, and all of the listings I received from that point forward were people advertising rooms for rent. I had already read all of the extremely contempt laden FAQs and instructions on the site, which were not helpful, so I emailed them asking for help. They sent me a form response to the effect of "It sounds like you're not getting as many matches as you wanted. Here's why that's your fault...". I emailed them back and reiterated that the problem was the type of matches I was getting were wrong. I shouldn't have been getting profiles with rooms for rent. No response. I forwarded them a match showing that my profile was never updated. No response.

So I just called my bank and disputed the charge, because f these people. They seem to detest the people who pay them for this defective service, so make their lives easier by not using it and getting your money back from your bank.

Tip for consumers:
Don’t bother. No better than Craigslist.

Got bombarded with a ridiculous amount of emails with "matches". This is almost assuredly because there is no easy way to unsubscribe from this garbage, scam website. There's no link to unsubscribe in the email or in the website. No respectable interface or UI. Just a constant barrage of spam emails. So now I'm going to have to mark it all as spam, getting their trash emails for eternity in my spam folder and adding to the spam that other people are going to get. Btw, you can't reply to any of these "matches" without spending $20 of course.

Roomiematch sent me 'matches' but not a single person has responded. I asked for my money back twice and they haven't even acknowledged it. I feel swindled.

UPDATE: I changed from 3 stars to 1 because of RoomieMatch's extremely rude and unnecessary customer "service." That said, it is a legitimate service... But should you ever politely reach out with a legitimate need for assistance, prepared to be rudely berated and insulted. The person who runs this site comes off as either a troll or extremely inane, as they seem to lack basic reading comprehension skills. For example, I told them repeatedly that I had no issue in receiving emailed matches to my Gmail account, yet they kept insisting that I must have missed their emails due to my own incompetence. They actually told me that I needed to follow "Email 101," and repeatedly insulted my intelligence. Perhaps it's true that I'm stupid, since I handed over my money to them...

Regarding reviewers complaining about being "spammed" with multiple emails and not being able to view any online profiles, the site is quite upfront about the type of service it provides, and what to expect. Also, users only receive emails with prospective roommate details if you pay $20. If you don't pay, others who have will receive your info, but you won't receive anyone else's.

When I used the service two years ago, I got in touch with several potential roommates, and quickly found one. So two years later when I needed to find a roommate again, I naturally handed over my $20 to sign right back up. Unfortunately I made the mistake of using a Yahoo email account this time, which rejected RoomieMatch's emails without even first sending them to my spam folder. RoomieMatch suggested using Gmail instead and did process this change, but was shockingly rude in its correspondence. They actually said that they couldn't tell if I was "engaging in much hyperbole," when I simply reached out to let them know that I hadn't received any of my matches at the Yahoo address. Also, this time around, none of my matches were responsive. I ended up finding my new roommate using the marketplace on a popular social media site for free.

TLDR: The marketplace on a popular social media site is a much better (and free) option, without the rude customer "service." If you do decide to try RoomieMatch, do so using a Gmail account.

Tip for consumers:
Don't bother, and try the marketplace on a popular social media site for free instead.

I read the reviews at on roomie match and already saw the red flags about rude customer services. But I didn't want to judge on other people's experience and decided to use it myself. I'm going to keep this short but I realize that these reviews are important, and whoever is working in customer service is VERY RUDE and condescending. I simply asked to be unsubscribed and if there was a more streamline way to do so. The responses were so unprofessional I can't believe this is how they are running themselves. It's ironic that this site is supposed to help people who are asking for help, yet this is how they talk to people? STAY AWAY.

I used this service for several years. I never received any customer support when I had problems, and they charged my card without posting my profile. I don't think this site is worth your time or money when there are much better ways of finding roommates.

Worst customer service, hands down. They (or possibly I) made a mistake in my original listing. So I read their FAQs and followed the instructions to revise the error. Although I had a paid (called "Cheap" account (which should not matter) the listing remained in error so I sent an email. Instead of fixing the error they condescendingly told me that the answer to my question was in their FAQ. I replied that I had already followed their instructions to a T, I even copied and pasted their FAQ instructions in my answer. I also mentioned that it would have been more helpful to simply fix the error instead of not reading my email and sending me an essentially nonresponsive cookie-cutter response.

They have not sent me a match since.

Their method of matching folks is absolutely brilliant. Their customer service was almost nonexistent. It is clear to me they do not like people. Don't let what seemed to be their cute, snarky persona in the beginning fool you. Roomiematch.com is just plain rude. If that doesn't bother you, then go for.

Tip for consumers:
If you don't mind snarky and rude, I say go for it!

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! Their customer service is f*cking unacceptable! I never write negative reviews but this was so bad I was in an utter state of disbelief. At first I honestly thought they got hacked this person's response was so bad! Some context - I used this service 2 years ago and found my current roommate through them. It was AMAZING. I had to reach out to them a couple times. This happened to me last time where it wouldn't let me select the metro area I needed in my initial application so I kept getting matched with people in Boston. I asked them to switch it and they were courteous and the response was pretty quick. To say I am f*cking flabbergasted is an understatement. I didn't even think to look at the reviews before signing up again because I had such a fantastic experience the first time. That was a HUGE mistake. The only comfort in this mind-blowingly terrible experience is that I'm not alone. Whoever they have working customer service are sociopaths who never received love as a child and probably live in a studio apartment alone with 10 cats.

ZERO STARS.
This site is run by criminal who use outright FRAUD and DECEPTION to get people to pay for services that they do NOT get anything out of.
They bait you into "signing up" with their services, you fill out a "questionnaire", and then give you a whole list of phony and non-existent people with non-existent addresses, and then charge your Credit Card for services they don't supply.
They charge your Credit Card, don't tell you about it, and then FAIL to give you any information about the people whom you are trying to contact that RoomieMatch supposedly set you up with.
The most laughable part?
They then tell you that they "cannot" respond back via email with Hotmail nor any other email service, because "it doesn't work with their Roommate Match services" when they then use the same Hotmail email program to let you "know" that you are "matched up" with a few potential roommates.
What crimnal duplicity and LYING FRAUD.
AVOID THIS CRIMINAL SITE AT ALL COSTS!

I go to the site and can't use it. Click on try to find a room mate and it always brings me to this endless list of stupid questions. I've never actually been able to see a single profile, yet somehow I get hundreds of emails everyday. I've contacted the site several times and only gotten generic email responses with no answers. Total B. S. and a scam, a complete waste of time. I would never in a million years ever even think about giving them a single dime. It's got to be some African scam from over seas.

Out of approximately 90 "matches" I received only three of them were willing to pay my minimum rent range. How did I match with so many profiles way below my price range? Didn't hear back from a single person I contacted either.

WEBSITE will take you email then send you 10+ emails per day. They have no unsubscribe option. The customer service email is never answered.

In the 10+ emails they send every day they never offer you an option to STOP on Unsubscribe. Your only option is to block their email address for the rest of your life to stop getting messages. I hope the feds take them all away in handcuffs. Harassment con-artists.

I thought the site was thorough and funny and ask pertinent questions, initially had a great response after I submitted by profile, then when I "upgraded" no responses at all, resubmitted my profile... nothing, tried to upgrade again... nothing? I am still the same person with the same room to offer in the same location? I am 67 and needed a roommate to share expenses in a 5 b/r house in Las Vegas, and maybe not live alone. But no one at the company even answers my quest for help to find out why? Not very professional.

I've gotten several emails for possible matches but there is no way to view the matches online. They want you to only go by the matches they email you and there is no way to see a collective list of people looking for roommates or that have rooms to rent. Don't waste your time, they need to improve and they never respond to any of my emails.
