“Throwing the baby out with the bathwater!”

Matt O.
4/11/21

In considering whether or not to join StampBoards, you have to look beyond it's hosts' unusual behaviour. As a novice collector I joined the site over 10 years ago and got a rocky introduction to the world of Philatelic opinion and a front seat to the blogs grist mill. The site is hosted by Glen Stephens and it's fair to say that some of his perspectives are confronting. Glen doesn't appear to be all that aware of the impact that his statementing, often personally directed, has on his sites participants. I think that's very unfortunate. If you can learn to put up with that side of things, Glen Stephens has actually established a philatelic blog that does contain some extremely valuable and insightful information including a significant image library. However the wrinkle in all this is that, much of this very good information, some of it unique to the site, is (and has been) propagated by participants and not Glen. Therein lays the dilemma. If you want to get the gold then you have to deal with the slurry. Don't give up on StampBoards because of how you might feel about it's host. If you do, you'll be giving up on many other fine contributors to this useful reference site. And also remember, these same contributors can equally benefit from your own contribution whether or not you are a novice or a specialist expert. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater!

“Glen Stephens is an absolute asshole and disgrace to philately”

Kenny F.
10/8/20

He abuses and insults people on the forum run by him and tries to portray that he is some big gun in philately who is a know-all. When people argues with him, he edits people's messages to suit his agenda and bans them when he is losing in an argument. He shamelessly promotes his own site selling substandard stamps and abuses people who buys from ebay or other sources. I would stay a mile away from this guy who has little to no integrity.

There is a lot of useful and interesting info on this site. Unfortuately you have to navigate yourself around the biggest ego in stamp collecting to see it. Glenn Stephens is rude and doesn't actually have half the knowledge he thinks he does. I've had bans simply for offereing a different opinion to his. At the end of the day the site is about him, his ego and the overpriced stamps he has to sell.

Can he not see he is the reason nobody wants to use Stampboards he complained about my topic heading yet I could not change it? Only an ant admin could change it, how daft is that yet I got the answer I wanted.
So he then kept it up and rubbished the Scottish people by saying we all drink too much beer

I made the mistake of thinking this is a professional and properly run site... it isn't!. Rude and offensive remarks, aggressive and intimidating behaviour, I stopped visiting very quickly. I only gave 1 star as I couldn't give zero.
My advice is don't bother!

Tip for consumers:
Don't

The admin has a couple accounts, including admin, Glenstephens, global admin etc. He keeps dumping all his trash in the selling stamp board asking for ridiculous prices - any one daring to enlighten the deceived buyers will be permanently banned!

As much as there is good information on this board, if you post something that doesn't set well with the owner of this board, you WILL get very hostile responses back from him. If you don't change things to his way, you will get banned. This board has some good people in it, just not enough to make it worth staying.

Glen Stephens acting as a moderator and admin of his own board shines with arrogance and spreads lies about anyone who hasn't helped him make money.
He plastered my name on his board calling me "the nightmare of any Ebay seller" for leaving 1 negative in 2002 when Ebay was just starting off. His own account, however, was suspended by Ebay so he had to setup a new one in 2013 under "stamps2013" where he left scores of negatives (in less than 5 years) to hapless sellers because they did not use recent commemorative stamps on their commercial packages to him or he couldn't screw them otherwise.

When disaster strikes, it generally doesn't take too long to find out how much of a community actually exists. After the photobucket debacle, it became clear how many of stampboards *******+ members stepped up to be counted in their community.

78 people are adding imgur images to threads. Three of those 78 are Glen Stephens. So, 76 out of *******+ members. There's the stampboards community right there.

Notice also how the sales threads are no longer visible from the front page. Maybe they only show if you are signed in?

I recently joined this board and posted a comment and request for information. According to the administrator, a Mr Glenn Stephens, i didnt follow the correct procedures and my post was removed. No problem with that, it was just the arrogant way he wrote... no customer service or people skills whatsoever. I then found this site and saw other people had the same experience, so I wrote to Stampboards, referencing this site. Surprise, surprise... I have now been permanently blocked from Stampboards.
What a way to run a forum!

If you think this board is there to offer stamp collectors items at the best deals, think again. Post a deal that competes with one offered by its self-glorified buffoon-in-charge, and your post is deleted.

The self-acclaimed stamp guru once offered his "stamp dry books" claiming his prices were the best. But they weren't. They were up on ebay for less. A mention of this was instantly deleted so the buffoon could monopolize the thread with his overpriced wares.

Clearly, he's not interested in collectors getting the best deals, he's just interested in the fastest way of getting their money into his pocket.

This, combined with his nasty condescending personality can make it a very unpleasant place. Don't try to argue with him, your post gets deleted.

Note the newbie's last comment. Here's what it said originally. Apparently this qualifies as a rude lecture:

"Wow, did not expect to be ridiculed on here. Simply 'your set is in poor condition and
Incomplete therefore will not be an any value' would have been a much more polite
Response.

Not the 'STUFFED' or 'Pacific Highways' comments. As a 50 year woman who is a novice at stamps, simply trying to obtain some advice, this has not been a pleasant experience."

Had exactly the same experience. Posted a query and found that a "moderator" removed it because they hadn't understood it - but not before 60 other collectors had seen it and several positive comments

Avoid like the plague

Two threads about the Australian Expo NY 2016 butterfly miniature sheets have been locked and deleted.
Why? No reason given by admin or mods.
But I know why:
These two threads mentioned the existence of 6 or 8 different limited edition numbered CTO sheets and the not-limited not-numbered mint sheets. The later available for face value at Australia Post.
Now take a look at Glen's sale thread:

Lies and deliberate misinformation! And his bunnies are falling into it...

This site is full of people who will steal your money with the pretense of selling you rare or popular stamps. They will take "bunnies" into their hobby and provide them with low quality merchandise, deemed by friends of Glen Stephens to be rare or high quality, and sell them to you for high prices. They will eventually cause you grief unless you either support their activities or buy their wares. This man and his "friends" are thieves and engage in illegal activity.

These hoodlums should be kicked off the web. This entire site is a scam and the authorities of every country should be notified of this malicious and illegal website.

Here we can see Glen Stephens hyping up an Australian new issue.
http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=*******&p=*******#p*******
This 2016 $1 souvenir sheet is not rare. It was printed in large numbers.
First it was priced at $2 because it had the "wrong" date. (The date on the stamp, 2004, is the copyright date, so NOT a "wrong" date!)
Then the price was increased to $2.50 because he discovered the stamp has a different perforation than the original 2004 issue.
Now the price is increased to $3 because some dealer was interested in buying his stock.
Look at his bunnies buying this sheet...
Glen bought them for $1 each from Australia Post of course.
