“Love my impreza”

Laurent O.
11/10/20

Love this small car. It is nothin special, not so nice looking, not impressive, but super reliable, never lets you down no matter the weather. Living in Montreal it always amazes me how this car starts under any condition, even after several weeks being parked outside. I strongly recommend the unique safety and stability of this car on any surface conditions, it is simply awesome.

“Subaru America does not honor their new car warranty”

Scott M.
10/26/22

I bought a 2022 Subaru Legacy a few months ago from McCurley Integrity Subaru in Pasco WA. I have taken the car in to the Subaru dealership for service twice for the same issue: the head (the screen and brain for your safety features, music, maps, phone calls, etc.) experiences multiple glitches. For example, it often freezes, which means safety features are not available, phone calls are disrupted, and the map is not accessible. When the head is not freezing, it often completely blacks out. All of this happens randomly, on a daily occurrence, and when my phone data has full service. Both the McCurley dealership and the Subaru manufacturer have said, in order to assess the problem, the glitches need to be duplicated. In my dealings with the McCurley dealership, they have not been able to reproduce the same problems that I've been experiencing, which means the issues have not been resolved. I have sent videos and pictures of some of these glitches, freezes, and shutdowns to the Subaru manufacturer to help them understand the electronic failures. I offered these same videos and pictures to McCurley but they are not interested because they claim they need to see the problems themselves. The service department has not taken the time it needs to determine the cause of the glitches. I have spoken with employees in the McCurley service and sales department who have told me the troubles I'm experiencing with this head failure have been a recognized problem with Subaru vehicles. Apparently, the electronic failures I've identified are not an isolated matter. I have taken time off work to bring my vehicle to the dealership service department during their regular hours, Monday through Friday, when the service department handles these kinds of issues. If I were offered a loaner vehicle, I could leave my vehicle to be assessed in the time needed without missing work. I feel as if I'm getting the run around from both McCurley and the Subaru manufacturer. Both parties have different ideas of how to determine the cause of my car's problems. When I call the Subaru manufacturer, they say they are waiting on McCurley. When I call McCurley, they say they are waiting on the Subaru manufacturer. I have not received follow-up calls or emails about next steps. I bought a brand new car, with a warranty. I would like my car to be fixed. The process to get it repaired seems like a broken one. Nobody has a solution or has taken ownership of getting it fixed.

As a new owner of the 2020 Outback and former owner of the Forester SJG, I am impressed by Subaru's consistent quality. The cars have pocket-friendly maintenance and are an absolute value for money! To many more team subbie!

I love my Impreza and have helped 4 friends to empty out their homes when putting their homes on the market. My daughter had a BRZ thatflipped on black ice a few years without a scratch on her. She immediately replaced it with the same make and model and has it years later. Subaru makes a quality product and I love how safe they are.

Tip for consumers:
Subaru is pathetic with their customer service. All run arounds and excuses. No ownership. All around poor customer service.

This is my fifth subaru outback and 7th subaru in my life and willing to get more. Very reliable and nice to drive. Only down point for outback is electrical issues and short lived bulps. Impreza is nice but honestly has a veey thin metal outsde and can easily be scratched. My wife has forester it is kind of small and ride is not that much comfortable but has better quality interior than impreza

2017 Subaru Forester

(1) To be fair, it's the nature of every All Wheel Drive [AWD], but think long and hard about buying an AWD unless you can afford an entire set of tires in event one of your tires is destroyed, after having some mileage on them.

Too, you should be honest with yourself regarding if you are going to, routinely, rotate your tires.

All the tires MUST be the same height. Were it otherwise, different tires on your car would turn at different speeds than the other tires, placing extreme wear on the drive train system. For example, if you had fifteen inch tires on the front and sixteen inch on the back, they would have a different rotation speed of at least five miles an hour. Something your transmission and transfer cases would not long tolerate.

NOTE: An American car manufacturer's vans were eating transmissions. They, finally, tracked it down to that people were swapping out just the front or back tires, resulting in front and back tries turning at different speeds.

(2) At just under 50,000 miles, I'm told the suspension A frames, to which the tires mount, require all new bushings. That's at least a $1,500.00 repair, unless I do it myself (I can by the name brand frames with the bushings for $150.00 each.

This appears to be a common problem with Subarus and its more than sad, since many of us have driven vintage rigs with 150,00 miles on them and they are still going strong, though with cracks appearing.

(3) The heating and cooling system cabin fan has been making an annoying noise for the last year. A bit of digging around shows this to be another built in defect of Subarus.

(4) Less than genius engineering pops up in several places:

(a) A primary place is, the oil change drain plug. The drain plug for the transmission is right out in the open and more than a few professional mechanics have confused it with the hidden [to the side] oil drain plug. That's a $200.00, or far more, mistake in waiting.

(b) USB ports. What kind of fool thought it a good idea to put the USB port for the stereo at the bottom of that 5"x"5 square, 10" deep console between the seats? The only safe time the driver could access it is when parked, and with a flashlight in hand.

(c) Are Japanese engineers built differently than the rest of the world, and that being the reason for the most horrible headrests I've had the displeasure of using? They -kind of- adjust, and they are made from some new space age material the physical characteristics which are somewhere between rock and softer rock [covered with cloth].
