The manager likes to abuse her power and has a thing against black males. Very rude and disrespectful will not listen to reason. Had a issue with the system getting it and had a back and forth with her regarding the situation but now she has over exaggerated are discussion and said I was aggressive lol now She refused to give me head office contact details and made a scene in the gym. Seen her do this with numerous people and her entitlement needs to stop

The company has registered me twice, once with an e-mail address which I have no access to and they have been taking money from my account without my permission for 13 months.

When I questioned this I was told it was you that created 2 accounts and we cant help you as it is your responsibility. I asked why I would need 2 memberships for 1 person they said this is irrelevant.

Join Pure Gym who are far more reliable.

The Gym Group Glasgow Quay

Pros:

- Has the basics
- Friendly staff. Shoutout to Darroch, who is a friend and tries to help me as much as he can in his capacity.

Cons:

- Underfunded and understaffed
- Limited range of equipment
- Broken lockers, poorly maintained machines. But I guess all is fine as long as the £££ keep rolling in.
- I've dealt with 3 different 'managers' and all of them are just 'yes-men'. The only thing they seem to manage is whether the lights are turned on (I'm surprised they even turn them on), and clearly, they have no control over budgets. The fact it needed a formal complaint to get the lift working when I joined says it all really. Any requests for equipment go straight to the hierarchy, who run this as a business and that only.
- Not the most accessible gym for people with physical/hidden disabilities, it says a lot when you see the staff using the disabled access door rather than actual disabled people. Here's an idea, instead of fixing the faulty lift every few months and hoping it never breaks down again, why not invest in a new one? Most people who need the lift to access the gym need constant access, and the issues with access every few months or so aren't worth it. But why bother getting a new lift? After all, the aim is to cut costs and make the most money, with little regard for members. Because that's what a gym is for, right?

Overall, my first and last experience of 'The Gym Group'. Avoid this bog-standard gym like the plague as it is very clear profits take priority over any kind of fitness/health/wellbeing. Better off paying more and going to a proper gym. PureGym Glasgow Shawlands is also no-frills, yet is 10x better. I would've gone there sooner if it wasn't for being new to the area when I unknowingly bought a fixed-term membership at this 'gym'. Can't believe these leeches have the audacity to say 'High-spec gyms that make absolutely everybody feel welcome' when that couldn't be further from the truth.

PS: You know the place is a real dump when fake reviews boost the review score on Trustpilot. Yet even with the boost, it still ranks as 'average'. Even some of the positive reviews on Facebook are from the PTs or managers from their other gyms. Speaks volumes when you have to do that.

They were closed to be replaced with new equipment, which turned out to be much worse. Today I received an ear and head injury and will most likely file a complaint or go to court. I have been involved in sports for about 7 years and the first time I received an ear and head injury because the equipment was not configured properly. There was blood flowing from the middle of my ear and it hurts. I will never come to this room again. There are always a lot of people here who are not given basic instructions and are not told about hygiene. The toilet is always dirty. They even skimp on soap; it is diluted and it is impossible to wash your hands properly. The water drain buttons are stuck. People exercise in dirty shoes on mats. Some people put their feet on the treadmill panel while doing a warm-up, also without cleaning up after themselves, and then someone will touch with clean hands. They don't even understand that someone else coming into contact with dirt can get skin and health problems. There is no sanitary station to at least wipe up after someone. The app doesn't work well and many people have problems logging into the gym. Equipment and dumbbells are scattered everywhere. There are few good simulators in principle. People do not understand how to use exercise equipment for their intended purpose, thus causing injury to themselves and damaging the equipment. Beginners probably don't know that they need to put everything back in place, because they weren't told. They throw weights with such a sound that in the tk makh, which on the 1st floor the flow almost falls and the neighboring exercise machines shake. This is the worst gym. I always liked to play sports, but thanks to this gym I got injured. Constantly, no matter how you come, there is stress. I'm shocked by this gym

I have just joined the Gym in London Road Brighton on it's Off Peak membership which states a cut off time at 3pm until 10pm. However there is no where in it's website or joining details as to whether the cut off time of 3pm is the time I should get into, or out of the gym. I ask this because in Pure gym, it's clearly stated in their website, their cut off time for Off Peak membership is the time to get INTO the gym, out anytime after. Therefore I tried to query via chat, but not available, I therefore submitted a form query 8 days ago, I received a template email reply with FAQ on everything under the sun except answer my query, then requested me to reply directly to that email if my query remains unanswered, so I sent another email to query, to date heard nothing back. Couple days ago, I tried to enter the gym at 2.20pm, but was refused. Yesterday I got in early, and asked a member of staff, who was not able to answer my question, instead advised it's most probably 2.50pm when entry is refused. She kindly offered to call up head office to query, but later advised me she couldn't get through, but took my number and will advise me, today 24 hours later, I've still not heard anything. The Gym's customer service is really appalling...

I have been a member of the Gym group since 2015 before that I had trained at a local gym near mine which unfortunately closed down.

I have trained at the following Gym group sites, Kingsheath, Digbeth, Kingsbury Road, Stechford and Sheldon.

The staff are lovely (in the gyms where they have any) equipment and space is decent and it has everything you need whether you want to get/ stay fit or hit other goals.

What I have noticed is the lack of hygiene, care of equipment as well as repairs the Gym group put into any of their gyms where the primary users or a large number of the facilities are from ethnic backgrounds. Now I am not saying the Gym group is racist or anything outlandish like that, but what I am saying is the hygiene and cleaning of the changing rooms, care of equipment, general maintenance and lack of staff is visible in these gyms compared to the gyms frequented by fellow Caucasian gym users in Kingsheath, Kingsbury and Sheldon.

At first, I thought maybe it is because I am training early in the morning and the cleaners and workers have not yet arrived, however training in the above three gyms at the same time over consecutive days has led me and my gym partners coming to the conclusion that the Gym group is not bothered at all about the users in Digbeth and Stechford.

When we do get the changing rooms cleaned which is a celebration akin to beating my PB in the squats, it is a rush job as you notice certain bits of dirt have not been cleaned, rather it was a wipe and go instead of a proper deep clean.

I guess for a budget gym cleaning and staffing is optional especially, but then this should also be the policy in all the gyms not just for Digbeth and Stechford...To paraphrase Thomas Jefferson "all gyms are created equal...unless your gym users are predominately ethnic minorities"

Sad but true state of the situation at the Gym group gyms of Digbeth and Stechford... Well done guys, keep up the lack of good work!

Tip for consumers:
Pointless complaining as I have raised this a few times with the staff in both sites and emailed people and they try and appease you with some watered down BCAA's.... just staff the gym and clean it! I don't need some BTECH grade supplements to cheer me up...CLEAN AND STAFF IT PROPERLY PLEASE!

Products used:
The Stechford and Digbeth gyms they allow to be run by with lack of staffing, not cleaning the facilities etc. But they will keep Kingheath, Sheldon and Kingsbury Road staffed and cleaned...Better off going there....
