“Great product - got a job within a month”

I would strongly recommend Mentat to anyone looking for a new job. They completely re-did my resume, and even applied to jobs for me until I started getting interviews. Great product!

“Great concept - poor execution by clearly unqualified individuals”

TheMentat is a company that offers to help individuals with finding their dream job. Founded by a number of individuals with impressive and diverse backgrounds, their website claims to offer services ranging from confidential career advising (free) to resume/LinkedIn profile updates and job application assistance (for $249). The best part, according to their website was their guarantee that you would get interviews as well as the money you paid them would be tax deductible (since it had to do with job searching expenses). When first visiting the website, it initially looked good on the surface, but as I read their collateral and sales tools, it became clear that the only individuals that they could potentially help are unskilled individuals that have limited exposure to the vast amount of career information offered both by the government or other organizations. Their infographics were not informative nor were they graphical with their blogs providing little in terms of insight or relevance to their target audience. Despite these glaring issues, I decided to opt into their free service where I was paired with a career advisor. I asked that individual to provide me with additional background about himself as well as my career aspirations. While he did reply promptly he did not answer these questions and attempted to sell me his services. When using their job search functionality, I was returned results that were not relevant to my background in Dallas, TX (I am based in the SF Bay Area). It is unclear to me how they can possibly help me find my next new job based on this overwhelming amount of incorrect, irrelevant and highly suspect information. It almost seems like this is the modern day equivalent of Stanley Barber, Bernard Haldane and the other scam artists that make candidates pay to get new jobs while offering their so-called services free to corporations. I truly hope that I can come back to retract this review, but at this point, I have a sneaking suspicion that I will be right with this company. Key takeaway; Avoid these young scammers before they take your money!

I was very interested in TheMentat as I'd hoped it would help me reach more job opportunities and turn into interviews. I'd previously had help on my resume and was curious how this service would approach it. It was disappointing that they stripped it of all my accomplishments and made it into a list of my job descriptions. There was a section on my accomplishments, but as someone who has been in the workforce for 10+ years, it made it look like I was trying to get into a new industry which I'm not. Also they didn't want to put my LinkedIn info on my resume but finally agreed after I pressed them.

I did like some of the suggestions on the cover letter,

I had them apply to some jobs and did get emails saying my applications were accepted, but when I'd login into the company career sites I could never locate my applications and never got an answer from TheMentat as to this issue. They simply asked if I got the email that my application was accepted and that was it.

I think this site as potential for new grads and people who don't have time for a job search. I can't say it's been a great fit for me as I've had better success with my own efforts.

First things first, if I cared enough I would upload photos and screenshots of the conversations I had with Mentat. I started w/ their I used this service and paid $249.99(they dont offer this anymore) All their success stories are predicated on a lie because they do not even offer the same packages NOR APPLY TO JOBS FOR YOU. At first, they fixed up my resume and cover letter pretty nicely and were supposed to "apply" to jobs for me. This is a lie, for the first 3 months they did NOT apply to ONE job for me. I had to contact them and ask what was up and they said that I did not contact anyone to say to start applying for jobs which was a stupid excuse. Afterwards, they offered to start applying to jobs for me saying they only apply to set amount of jobs in a month.
99.99% JOBS THAT THEY APPLIED ME TOO: ONE - were terrible positions and positions that had nothing to do with what I asked and my major.
SECOND - when they are applying sometimes they have to create login information, it was impossible to continue with an application because no one knew what the login information was nor getting ahold of someone when you needed was near impossible too.
ENDING: This company is a lie, all their success stories and articles they listed in (forbes, newsweek) is all based on their packages from 2016. At the end of my experience they contacted me and said that Mentat was changing their platform therefore they were going to stop applying to positions for its users. I told them that you still have to fulfill your service if I paid 249.99. Lets just say they never refunded me, stopped applying to jobs for me, and even when they did apply to jobs, they were just randomly applying to positions that had nothing to do with my major/needs. SO BAD, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME!
