“Reasons Why Trustpilot Is Not Reliable for Consumer Reviews”

mouloud b.
1/1/24

Here are some reasons why you cannot trust Trustpilot:. Loss of Genuine Reviews: Trustpilot reviews do not reflect the truth as Hundreds if not thousands of genuine reviews are inadvertently removed by Trustpilot without any investigation. Many reviewers may not even be aware that their legitimate feedback has been deleted, or they might not bother to go through the cumbersome process of attempting to reinstate their reviews. Eg. See the attached photo of a genuine review removed by Trustpilot and never reinstated despite submitting evidence of dealing with company incl Policy Number: WS612002!. Lack of Accountability: Despite Trustpilot's claims of reviewing decisions within two days, there have been cases where reviewers have experienced prolonged delays without any resolution. Lack of Transparency and Censorship: A particularly alarming aspect of Trustpilot's policies is their refusal to allow negative reviews specifically about their own platform. By removing critical reviews of Trustpilot itself, the company displays a lack of transparency (see attached screenshot of a review about them removed to hide their own rating!. Exploring Alternative Platforms: There are reliable reviews platforms you can use in particular Google Reviews & SiteJabber.com which reflect reality as they are not removed like Trustpilot genuine reviews.

Trustpilot removed negative my review of Trustpilot, saying I had to prove I used their services, I need to provide proof, a receipt or paperwork. Thid is impossible, but when asked how and said this was my proof, I heard no more. Trustpilot is a scam, negative reviews get removed if the reviewed service or company complains. Only positive reviews are allowed.

Tip for consumers:
Do not trust Trustpilot. They tell lies.

There's no Trust in Trustpilot

In the high-octane world of business and personal development, where integrity and transparency are as vital as the air we breathe, my recent encounter with Trustpilot left a sour taste that no amount of sugar coating can sweeten. Picture this: I engaged in a genuine transaction with SuccessResources, investing not just my money but my faith in their 3Day seminar in Amsterdam, and then I shared my authentic experience on Trustpilot.

What happens next? Trustpilot slaps my company with a label of, pay attention - Selling fake reviews -, a claim as baseless as accusing a bird of talking!

We are a registered Educational Institute in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, nothing to do with selling fake reviews.

Despite arming myself with indisputable proof of my participation (yes, an invoice that's as real as the ground you walk on), Trustpilot stood unmoved, as if my genuine attempt at clarity was invisible to them.

Not one to retreat without a fight, I aimed another arrow of truth by reviewing Trustpilot itself, sharing my experience. The irony? This review was flagged as fake.

Despite presenting a fortress of evidence, including screenshots and case numbers (Ticket number: ******* is one of them) my truth was dismissed, tossed aside like yesterday's news.

This ordeal wasn't just an eye-opener but a clear call to all seekers of genuine feedback platforms: Trustpilot, in its current state, seems more like a court of kangaroos, where evidence leaps through hoops only to be dismissed into the void!

Everyone should question to seek transparency, and to demand a platform where our voices, backed by solid proof, are respected and acknowledged. Trustpilot, in this instance, failed to measure up to these standards, leaving a trail of questions about its commitment to genuine, unadulterated feedback..

Trustpilot used to be trustworthy. Now in its spurt for growth its censoring postings. If you write a 3 or less starred review you're blocked from any further postings, even if they're 5 star ones. This is leading to nothing but 4/5 star reviews for every business. If you use Trustpilot always look at the 1 or 2 star reiews for a truer picture of what any company is like.

Well guys you can look and see I don't write these often. So here we go! I wrote a few reviews on TrustPilot because they have their logo on everything today, (that means they get paid some way just saying) Now I did my review on a graphics software company that had 100% free on there site. I downloaded the software and started to use it. Then the Software lead me to a page to pay $30 dollars to continue. I thought this wrong, with no way to contact the company except to purchase. I deleted it, did a quick review on TrustPilot. The next I get an email with a link asking for-MY Name, Phone Number, and an Invoice, or they are goin to remove the review. I also got a smart AZZ remark from the software co. First the invoice/order number it was a download the was not one. That is what I put in that line My phone number, I told them NO I wasn't kind, My name they had it did they not e-mail me? Long story short I dealt with three software companies that day all got reviews say one. I have yet sang their praises. I also dealt with an online store and did a review on them all told I did 5 reviews. Out of the five reviews three of those were turned down even though two of those were five star reviews. So out of curiosity I did a review on Trustpilot. No I was not kind. The reason they gave for it not being up was because I was trying to promote a company and they took it down. Imagine that and they still hold a high rating because they police their own. I guess they haven't came and looked to site jabber.

I used Trustpilot for years until I became weary of the continual badgering and withdrawal of my reviews because vendors weren't happy with a negative rating. Trustpilot's system is seriously flawed because you can post a review and then be asked for 'evidence' of purchase or engagement with a company months or a year or so after posting the review. Unless you keep your review evidence in a file somewhere, this can mean legitimate reviews are deleted. Sitejabber's system of allowing you to upload a copy of a receipt, email or invoice etc at the time of writing the review is far better. It means you can be done with the review at the point of writing it, because the evidence is there.

Trustpilot also appears to be incentivised to bias reviews in favour of companies who pay them. I say 'appears' based on the trends I've seen in review ratings for extremely bad companies that have high ratings on Trustpilot and very low ratings everywhere else. This is also borne out by my direct personal experience of having legitimate reviews censored by them. Another downside is their way of calculating overall review scores, based on the rate of submission of reviews. This means that a good business that has only 5 star reviews, but which doesn't have a high frequency of review submissions, has a lower overall score than a business with a lot of review submissions. This creates an unfair bias against small businesses and sole traders, whilst favouring bigger companies and corporations. A small business with only 5 star ratings ends up with a score of 4.3 instead of 5, for example.

Tip for consumers:
Check other reviews sites to see how their ratings compare before determining whether a business you're considering using is trustworthy

I wrote a review about silksilky being bad and it seems the review site trustpilot might be even worse. They asked for my order# and I needed to open up an account with them and have my photo ID uploaded or my review would be deleted. They might need my bank account number too or find it. Good lord trustpilot is bad.

I had to post a very negative review about wholesale2b. I was honest and thus had my review removed by trustpilot claiming I made racial discriminatory remarks. One of the many complaints I had with wholesale2b is how they out source there work to India. Which is why wait times take 12-24 hours. For that I was flagged apparently. My argument was that in the business world everyone knows time is money. And should a problem arise with an order or customer and you have to wait 12-24 hours for a response you could lose that customer or get bad reviews. And yet trustpilot removed my review! I also read on many forums how trustpilot will remove negative posts made on companies which I firmly believe. Because for every negative review on wholesale2b there is two to three positive reviews there after with next to no good information. Only words such as " it's a great company good experience". Weak reviews! Trustpilot is not reliable. Its a scam website that works against honest reviews that take time to formulate a true experience.

Tip for consumers:
Knowing that Trustpilot gets paid to remove reviews and is biased would of prevented me from using their hypocritical service for reviews.

I have used Trustpilot before but lately they seem to flag every one of my genuine reviews. They even deleted a review recently I had written years ago. How can a review from years ago suddenly be problematic now? With at least one company, I have seen some positive reviews on Trustpilot that look suspicious to me. It feels that it has started to become a website where dishonest organisations are able to make themselves look good. I hope I am wrong.

Subject: Issue with Posting Genuine Feedback on Flippa.com

Dear Trustpilot Support Team,

I trust this message finds you well.

I've encountered challenges while attempting to post my genuine feedback for Flippa.com on Trustpilot, along with supporting evidence. Unfortunately, Trustpilot has consistently blocked my feedback, citing various reasons each time.

I understand the importance of maintaining platform integrity, but this recurring issue has raised concerns about the credibility of Trustpilot. It appears that there might be external pressures impacting the transparency of feedback, leading to skepticism about the reliability of Trustpilot reviews.

Upon further investigation, I've noticed a decline in Trustpilot scores on various review websites, indicating a broader trend. This has prompted me to question the trustworthiness of Trustpilot's review system.

I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to a resolution that ensures an unbiased and transparent platform for users to share their genuine experiences.

Thank you for your understanding and assistance.

Best regards,
Chetan

I have written countless reviews and all have been deleted but 3.

About a month ago I wrote a review that was flagged, I provided customer ID and screenshots and it was approved and marked "verified". A month later I got a sudden email that it was removed.

Terrible website that approves countless fake reviews from new accounts without history and removes already Verified reviews.

Asking customer to provide documentation, verifying the review (by adding Verified badge) and then removing it later as unauthentic is quite disrespectful towards review writers.

First I would caution anyone to continue to post reviews on trust pilot. I would also suggest you read the reviews here on how bad Trustpilot is. You can see that trust pilot allows companies to either bully them or pay them to remove valid helpful reviews. It also now has a policy of harvesting reviews by inviting people to review things. This by itself makes this site untrustworthy.

I'm probably going to get banned on that site but I had been a reviewer for quite a while and have many detailed reviews of companies. Please know that sometimes you'll have a positive or negative interaction with a company but not have a purchase. Trustpilot requires documentation of a purchase with your personal information to be sent to them. I don't think they can be trusted with personal information. This is an easy way for trustpilot to have reviews deleted. So if you're reviewing a company or looking at the reviews of companies, you can't trust that you are getting the true story for any company on trustpilot. They took down a review on a company called snap! Raise which I exposed in my personal opinion as a company that actually steals money from children under the guise of helping schools raise money. I provided information as well as suggestions of articles and places to go to confirm what I was saying in my review. My review was honest but certainly wasn't great for the company and they complained. Not only did they complain but they went after me both by the email that was provided to them by trust pilot and they also went after me in their response to my review claiming that I was not a real customer. I provided proof of my use of the company to trustpilot twice but they still removed my reviews. I'm afraid they will ban me so I'm posting my review of Trustpilot here. I also have a few reviews here.

MY review of Trustpilot on trustpilot site:
"This site is no better than the scam companies I have been reviewing.

Trustpilot cannot be trusted. I have reviews where I sent proof I used the business and the business paid to have my review removed. How can this be?

I agree with all the other reviewers who have had this happen to them. Trustpilot sends a cryptic message asking for a "reference number." Reference numbers don't exist. There's no way to know what is requested in order not to have your review removed. I eventually was able to contact trustpilot which is almost impossible. Customer service is the worst and on par with other really bad companies. Couldn't get an answer from them. I provided them proof that I used this company. It didn't matter. They still removed my reviews. This is unconscionable.

If you get one of these threatening messages be assured there's nothing you can do and trustpilot will certainly remove your review. I suggest you copy your review and post it elsewhere and stop using this site and stop contributing to the site. My review was on Snap! Raise which is a company which steals money from children under the guise of helping schools raise money. There was no reason to take down my reviews.

How can you have a company pay to have reviews removed. If they're not paying to have reviews removed then explain why on earth would you remove helpful reviews? I'm not the only one who has had this happen to. Read the dozens of other complaints on this site where people complain about Trustpilot removing their reviews.

Only allowing fake and fake positive and solicited invited reviews isn't helping anyone. People come to your site and are fooled or tricked into believing that a company is safe to do business with and this just does not true.

At this point it appears that you're inviting a lot of people to review your site which is bumping up your positive numbers. You've tapped into a way to scam the system and this isn't helping anyone. You are using deceptive tactics and removing reviews. This is not a sign of a trusted site. I'm just one person but I'll be taking my interviews elsewhere.

In the meantime, I'm posting my reviews back. It sucks that your reviewers have to keep going back and checking to make sure that their reviews aren't taken down.

And again, responding to people's reviews with cut and paste canned responses which are infuriating and certainly not helpful is no way to run a business no matter what you think. It shows not only do you not care for your customers or your reviewer base but that you have contempt for them. Right now I'm so upset with myself for placing my work on your site for free and allowing you to make money off of my really good reviews.

I would have certainly provided trust pilot proof of my purchase with this company, again, had they provided assurance that this information would not be sent to the company. Right now, I don't think that anyone should trust trustpilot in any way and I would be concerned about sending anything or any documentation to trustpilot with my personal information. I would not trust that trustpilot would not share this information and my name with that company.

I have provided over 20 detailed helpful reviews for the site and there's no way that you can look at my reviews and believe that I would lie about any company or that any company would have a valid reason for removing any of my reviews."

I never thought being thankful for good service and leaving positive review is such horrible experience. After few days I received email that my review was removed. To approve my review they requested id and order invoice from shop with my address and etc. so I can prove that I'm real person? This is a joke, I'm not going to share my private data with shady company. To post a review it will take a weeks trip messaging forward and backward with trustpilot support. Both my husband and I recently received emails from Trustpilot telling us they were deleting our separate and completely individual negative experiences with the same company (Yodel). When we checked these were old reviews we'd done ages ago - but our other positive reviews of the same company were apparently fine! My husband couldn't be bothered to query it but I felt it was the principal of the thing that warranted a reply. I still had evidence (i.e. My receipt) and decided to dispute the decision from their 'content integrity' team and sent the proof they requested that my complaint was 100% genuine and constructive - guess what?! They still wouldn't reinstate it and then I started to look into why to now find numerous people have had ta similar experience. I've written back to them yet again as I'm outraged they are allowing this to happen. It's really shaken my faith in what I thought was a trustworthy site and I am now of the belief big companies can influence them to take down anything they don't like - not what the site was intended for. I'm still giving them 2 stars as I'm trying to be fair and the site is better than nothing but I will no longer trust them as I did. Next time I'll come here and get the truth!

''As part of our efforts to ensure that all Trustpilot reviews are genuine, we have customized software that detects unusual activity on our platform. In this case, our software has flagged that at least one of your reviews is likely to be spam. We take this very seriously, and have therefore blocked your user account and removed your reviews from our platform.'' And then I did notice a lot of fake reviews and/or scams. Fairly obvious on some pages that the 5 star reviews are made up. As a whole, it makes their website fake.

Don't waste your time. They don't monitor fake positive reviews, while companies are allowed to have genuine bad reviews suspended.

Cannot be trusted. The amount of 5 star reviews which are either fake or have been left due to the offer of an incentive is laughable

Leave a bad review for a company that pays extra however and it'll get taken offline. Trustpilot say they don't delete bad reviews, they just take it offline which is just the same but sounds better.

I would say most of the bad reviews are truthful and the 5 stars very suspicious. That's not how it should be

You go to the trouble of writing an honest review on a company, And Trustpilot don't like it, And remove your review.
So what is the point of using Trustpilot. There is'nt.
Trustpilot don't respect freedom of speech. Or your personal opinion... I've written 2 honest reviews on a certain dating site, And they've removed both... Kinda makes you think that some companies are paying them to remove certain negative but honest reviews...

I went on TrustPilot to review a business and it was like walking on hot stones. They set my soul on fire. I was a nervous wreck trying to deal with them.
They do not follow their own rules. They have removed my reviews, modified them, removed them while I was in the middle of writing a response & threatened to remove a review if I didn't modify it within 3 days.
It just happened this week, so I'm extremely upset. They violated my Constitutional Rights to have free speech of written or verbal word. They did not care.
I deleted my account last night. Sitejabber, please do not remove this. These people@ TrustPilot are poison. They break all their own rules.
It was about several reports I filed with Healthunlocked, an online peer support for health issues.
I was already reeling because their hand dandy lie detector said I was lying when in actuality I wrote the truth.
They violated my Constitutional Rights of free speech to the written or verbal word.
I highly do not recommend them@ all.
All you need to do is look at the reviews. There are plenty of review sites you can access that won't twist your words.

Thank you
Pixie Dust

Straight up states they do none of that.
I honestly have to state I found nothing positive about TrustPilot.

Tip for consumers:
Sure, simply stated there are other review venues that are reliable and let you write a truthful review. They should never ask you to modify or remove a review & threaten to take your profile down if you don't comply within 3 days. Thats a huge red flag. Do not use profanity or real names is something important to remember.
They drove me insane & their own reviews about them are horrible. I'm stunned they have survived this long.
They are just not a place to trust with your reviews.
