  • Micro Auto Filters

8/29/17

I recently ordered a Micro branded air filter model AA103 for my 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer. The Micro web site states that their AA103 filter is equivalent to the industry standard Ryco A1311 for my car. The cost of the Micro AA103 air filter was only a fraction of the cost of a genuine Ryco A1311 air filter so I thought I would give it a try despite stern warnings from my car mechanic about cheap air filters.
When the product arrived I quickly discovered that these very cheap "Micro" branded air filters are made of sub-standard material that is very brittle and easily breaks. This is a cause for alarm in itself as the potential damage from a broken piece of the air filter being sucked into an engine is enormous. This was my mechanics exact concern!
The sizing of the Micro branded air filters too is totally incorrect and also far from what is stated on their web site. In my case the AA103 air filter which I received had a stated height of 51mm which is the same as the Ryco A1311 specification. However it did not fit properly into my car. I removed it and measured its height to be just 46mm which was 5mm shorter than their specification and explained why it couldnt fit properly.
Initially they sent me a Micro air filter without the mandatory rubber seal included / attached to the air filter. I had never seen this before in my 40 years of servicing my own cars as the air filter cant function properly without the rubber seal attached.
The biggest problem is that I brought all this up with Micro Auto Filters and they are in complete denial suggesting their product is a perfect fit and that problem lies with me. Well measurements dont lie and neither do easy breakages for what should be a robust product.
As the old saying goes "you get what you pay for".
I certainly wont be buying any cheap "Micro" Air filters ever again. I have learnt my lesson

Stay well away from Direct Auto Spares. These nameless, faceless people hide behind a website wall (directautospares.com.au) with no address or phone number which gives them an opportunity to be rude and arrogant to whoever finds any reason to complain.
The cheap "Micro" branded air filters they sell appear to be made of sub-standard material that is very brittle and easily breaks. This is a cause for alarm in itself as the potential damage from a broken piece of the air filter being sucked into an engine is enormous as my mechanic explained.
Furthermore, the sizing of the air filter they sent me was totally incorrect and also far from the specifications stated on their web site.
They even sent me an air filter without the mandatory rubber seal attached to the air filter. Hence correct / proper fitting and operation was just impossible! You gotta ask: Do they have any Quality Control at all?
I tried to explain these issues to them (via email) and they just say "we feel the filter will fit and work as intended". Then when I requested a refund they called me a scammer and said I swore at their staff (several times). Now doing this is extremely difficult given they never provided me with any address or phone number. Not even on thier invoice!
What a wonderful response - truly professional indeed!
As the old saying goes "if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys"
I certainly wont be buying any cheap Micro branded air filters in future nor dealing with Direct Auto Spares ever again. I have learnt my lesson

  • Booking.com

7/6/16

In November 2015 we booked a 1 week holiday in Waikiki, Hawaii in what they described as "Waikiki Grand One Bedroom Condo". When we arrived we found it was just a studio/hotel room which did not even have a table and chairs and not even a wash basin or power point in the bathroom. A far cry from a One bedroom condo! Furthermore the advert stated:
-the condo was 46m when in fact it was only 28m
-that toiletries were supplied when they weren't
-that the condo had a city/garden view when all you could see was the leaves and branches of a huge tree hard up against the window.
-that it slept 2-4 but the other 2 had to sleep on an uncomfortable, worn-out sofa bed.
The apartment was significantly sub-standard.
When we brought all this to the attention of booking com they simply forwarded our complaint to the apartment advertiser and took no responsibility for their part.
The advertiser of the condo naturally refused the refund request and the advert still remains with the same deceitful, misleading description.
Seriously both the advertiser of the property and booking.com should be held accountable and brought to justice.
Like others here we wont be using them again.

Tip for consumers:
Don't trust the accommodation descriptions. Especially what appear to be private listings. Also booking.com charge huge commissions so you can save money by booking direct.
