All comparison websites are a bit of a con. The fact im an insurance advisor helps me with this review. Firstly none in te UK are independant. The one name above is owned by the Admiral group, so suprisingly if your a risk they want they will always be in the top 3. These site in the industry are not called by their marketing name of comparison websites. We call them Aggregator sites. They collect your info and sell it to other companies (hence the name aggregator). The main problem I have (working as a insurance advisor) is these sites market themselves as the best way to find the cheapest deal. The problem is they charge between £40 for the cheaper sites to £80 for the more well known (confused, comparethemarket, go compare etc). So although you do come across a few companies selling product as loss leaders, most companies have had to increase they charges to incorparate these cost. So these sites may save you time, but they cetainly don't save you money. If you were to ring around and haggle a bit you will be able to get it much cheaper. Yes i do mean haggle, that may sound hard for your "classic Briton" but i can tell you most Insurance advisor or salesmen can reduce the commision on their sales (we call it a slush fund). Its amazing how "classic Britons" accept the first price you give them, but people of Mediterranean, Asian or Middle Eastern decent will always haggle for a deal, and 9/10 time will get it.
