  • Monotiques

9/18/17

I ordered from them just to avoid FashionNova, and I regret making such an impulse purchase. When I saw "Fast Shipping & Easy Return On All Orders Fully Tracked" on their site, I was impressed. But, I found out last minute that their return policy is no full refund, return shipping is on you (which is fine), but you only get store credit back (which is NOT fine). I contacted them within 5 minutes of placing the order to see if I can cancel, and they purposely ignored my email for days, then shipped out my package anyway. Again, I take that as my loss and mistake.

But to this day, I have yet to hear from them to reply to at least tell me "sorry we can't cancel the order". While the package did come 2-3 days as they advertised, I'm never purchasing from here again. If you're familiar with Aphrodite jeans and don't mind a store-credit-only return policy, shop here. They do ship fast. Otherwise, steer clear; their business model is like FashionNova and they are only known from Instagram, nowhere else. If you expect decent customer service and a shopping experience like a real retailer, you won't find it here.

I came across Monotiques when I was watching YouTubers. They were obviously given these jeans for free to promote them because not a single one of them mentioned the store-credit only return policy. Oh, and the website shows the jeans zoomed in at the pockets as if the pockets exist. I bought 4 pairs and not a single one had real front pockets and it's not stated anywhere on the product's description.

I don't even have to buy from this website to know anything. It speaks for itself. I passed by it when I was looking for jeans. My initial impression was: "wow, these models literally look like exaggerated 3D models of women". I put stuff in my cart, hoping to purchase these jeans that supposedly caters to "curvy" females.

But then I decided to read their policies CAREFULLY, because honestly, the name of the website Fashion Nova reminds me of those Chinese-based websites I've purchased from (which I also had horrible experiences with). Well here's what I found:

1. All that social media advertising and having celebrities/Instagram models advertise your stuff, and still no FULL refund? No, I don't mean a e-gift card.

2. Their return policy claims they can reject returns if a "#NovaBabe" returns too much. Honestly, if you have issues with customers consistently giving stuff back, then perhaps you need to change your business model. Because not all of us are "Instagram famous" with thousands of followers. Some of us just want clothes that fit and not have to be burdened with fake cash in return.

3. If you have to use hashtags in your return policy section, then you arent taking your own business seriously.

4. Stale Returns are returns after 30 days, and Fashion Nova has a right to a 50% restock fee. The customers money is going to be in store credit anyway, why even bother allowing returns after 30 days?

5. If an item is out of stock after an order is placed, then you only get store credit back? Im sorry, really? Store credit? So now the customer is stuck forever using this fake money? How ridiculous is that and why are your customers penalized for something beyond their control?

6. Easy Return Policy is not easy at all. You are responsible for the cost shipping back and in addition, you dont get your real money back.

7. All their clothes are from wholesalers which can be found online or even on eBay if you dig hard enough. Fashion Nova is just a distributer, being able to sell the clothes for such a low price, in which, they will always be out of stock, in which you (the customer) will be stuck with if it doesnt work out for you. You will get crap quality in probably 80% of the stuff you order.

So why does this website remind of those Chinese-based clothing websites? Well, I ordered from a few and had the same exact experience as other shoppers at Fashion Nova. I put in an order, 2 items were out of stock, they sent 1 dress that took over 3 weeks to come. Dress looked nothing like images they had, cheap material, and the out of stock items in my order were given back to me as a store credit.

If you have tons of money to throw away on crappy ratchet-like clothing, this place is for you. Because at some point, the clothes are so cheap that youre going to throw it out and not care. But if you worked hard for your money, and skeptical about this website, I would avoid it at all costs. Good thing I read the websites policies and then read reviews here before buying. I almost scammed myself over some gimmicky shiny things I wanted. Also, some of these positive reviews look so fake.

  • YouTube

4/17/17

I'm not interested in makeup, vloggers, or other peoples' lives. It's great that people can make a living just making Youtube videos. I followed a few channels with great content and but since they had to post weekly, their videos started to go downhill. That's fine, I could simply unsubscribe and not complain.

Therefore, I can choose the content I could see, at least most of the times. I watch documentaries, sometimes reviews and tutorials, and other times, looking for abstract or obscure music. Overall, YouTube has a lot to offer, and it's mostly free, so I didn't mind the commercials. But sometimes, they just get out of hand and way too many. I could pay to get rid of the ads or I could deal with ads and pay nothing.

With the content that I watch, YouTube could almost replace paying for Netflix. The content you watch reflects the people in the comments. Nowhere in the music I listen to or the videos I watch ever have negative comments, trolls or pointless internet arguments. It's great. I took off one star, because I don't like the fact that my Google Account automatically makes a YouTube account (with a hidden "ghost" channel).

  • Blue Apron

4/17/17

I saw Blue Apron's ads on TV, and their marketing is absolutely gorgeous. Everything about it made it look so homely and fun, therefore when I received their discounts or gift cards in the mail, I was always tempted to make an order. I once got a $30 gift card that was supposed to cover (from what I remember) one week or one box.

But there was a minimum that requires me to purchase double the amount, therefore I couldn't use the gift card on its own. On top of that, inputting your payment information would require you to subscribe to them which I didn't want. I wouldn't have mind paying any shipping fees, but luring people to subscribe for a monthly box is just ridiculous.

So like I said, I have tried to give Blue Apron a chance being a new customer because I thought the concept was cool, and their marketing effort made this look like a terrific idea. However, the way they lure people into subscriptions is just really bad. You can't even have a one time offer just to see how the service is. On top of that, their gift cards never cover fully for their product, yet they consistently send me gift cards in the mail. Again, I'd pay the shipping and processing, but I would never pay for a subscription just to use a "gift".

Forget their political views, good, bad or biased. This website has more ads than any other website I have ever been on. Just viewing some technology news had a video autoplayed and blasted on out of nowhere. Most laggy website I have ever been on. I have avoided this website due to the auto-play videos. On top of that, on mobile, it's impossible to browse comfortably, and you're still hit with ads on a small screen.

  • Glassdoor

4/17/17

This website is just not useful or seemingly legitimate anymore. Years ago, I used to browse Glassdoor to see median salaries and see what places were good to work for. Everything looked perfectly fine, and everyone seemed to have legitimate good and bad experiences.

Now, the company just looks really fake and uninviting. First, it's useless on mobile. Second, it's useless everywhere else. Just like those shopping websites that require your email before browsing their content, and just like Yelp that doesn't allow you to browse without their app on mobile, Glassdoor takes it to a whole new level. You can't view past the first page of reviews without making an account. No, thanks. I rather take my chances experiencing good or bad from a company than make an account with these people.

Websites like GlassDoor and Yelp are just out for your money. No one can prove a good or bad experience. Not everyone is a liar but at the same time, there are many people who would do anything to put down a business. That's why either side will end up being upset while these websites just take money in. If you rely on this website for any sort of background overview, you may lose out in the future.

  • TechSpot

4/14/17

Id give them a higher star rating because the website is quite informative, but through a past known experience with them, I cant give them anything higher. Years ago, when I was 18 years old, I had a 16 year old friend who had an application issue that couldnt be solved and there werent solutions elsewhere. Made an account on TechSpot, asked nicely through the forums, and before the post received even three responses, a troll user claimed he was able to hack, therefore, the thread was locked and closed.

Some time later, coincidentally, but not connected NOR was TechSpots fault, my friends personal information was compromised. At 16 years old, with no bank accounts, no actual ID, no credit information, someone still decided to use her home number and physical address to harass her with subscriptions, phone calls about debt, loans, and sometimes even adulted rated content. Her username used on TechSpot was hijacked and used elsewhere on other websites to leave fake rude messages, responses and reviews for various products.

When my friend KINDLY asked in the TechSpot forums, if theres a way to remove her account for security reasons, they couldve simply told her no, because the account was created using an old forum/bulletin platform that doesnt have the option to remove accounts. Instead, not only were the Mods condescending, but downright rude.

When we decided to go on another website to see if theres a way for account removal on websites, we did NOT once badmouth TechSpot, only mentioned it as one of the websites. Yet, a TechSpot mod that, so happened to be on that website, saw the question, then copied and pasted it back to TechSpot forums. S/he then left a response under it basically stating my friend is an idiot and allowed others to join the conversation. The mod embarrassed and bullied a 16 year old over something this petty and practically doxxed an underaged girl.

Some time later, a few more users asked for account removal for whatever reason. The users asked why it wasnt an option. I stepped in just suggesting a better platform for the future, and the mods basically called me "a moron despite having a college education". I was so done. I logged out and never went back to this website again. Bottomline, these Mods have the privilege to be nasty to people, while sitting behind a computer screen meanwhile, they probably get trolled by 14 year olds on League of Legends daily.

  • Indeed

4/13/17

Don't get me wrong, I use Indeed to look for work and it's free for me. Therefore, I don't want anyone to think that I'm being harsh because I expect too much. However, since it functions as a platform for work, it could use some improvement. I like how simple the interface is, but again, it's difficult to look for what you need when you actually need something specific.

Problem 1: While some of this may be the fault of employers/recruiters, it would be nice for Indeed to add the functionality: attachments. Since I see posts with absolutely no contact email, it's impossible to do what they ask: attach a PDF or attach a manual/custom cover letter. They also ask for a portfolio link for art/design, which can be added to your Indeed or custom resume, but it doesn't ensure that the employer will actually check it from there.

Problem 2: Please, please, PLEASE allow people to sort or unsort "external" jobs. It's really frustrating to click on jobs and they lead to an external website where it requires you to make ANOTHER account just to apply for a job that you may not even get! Which means you'd be inputting personal information for nothing! Honestly, having external links is a bit misleading because you assume that you're applying from Indeed.

Problem 3: PLEASE, please, please make an option for employers to separate their skills requirements. This is a fault of recruiters. Many of them hire base on hiring you to do more than one thing and still give you one job's compensation. For example, if you are an IT, they would expect a requirement to be web development. If you're a graphic designer, they expect you to know video editing. Please, people, no one knows everything and these types of posts are the reason why people have problems finding work. Indeed.com, please allow anyone to sort out these types of work somehow.

Other than these issues, Indeed.com is a decent platform/website for both sides (employer and job seekers). Again, since it's free, I don't want to sound demanding, but at the same time, I hope my suggestions improve the way the website works.

Update: 04/17/17

Indeed contacted me through message and suggested an advanced search that seemed promising, however, after some attempts, it wasn't very useful. With the specifications I used, I ended up with a result of 1 job that wasn't even in my area (which was strange).

I also recently spoke to someone I know who also have been using Indeed.com for almost six months. I have been using it for five months. Neither of us have gotten replies from any employers/recruiters. The only ONE single reply I did receive was from a company that denied me anyway, saying I wasn't qualified, although I met all their qualifications, requirements and skills they stated in their post with actual portfolio work and experience to prove it. I honestly feel like I waste so much time here. I received more replies on Craigslist with actual jobs, which is strange because Craigslist is meant to be more suspicious. Nevertheless, I feel like I'm giving my data away for nothing. My experience has made me feel great discouragement.

Again, Indeed.com's website is fine on its own but the overall experience of finding work, or maybe even posting jobs, it seems to be need a lot of improvement.

  • BuzzFeed

4/12/17

Like another reviewer said, this website contains articles of lame content that includes a bunch of gifs, false content, and an outlet of pretending to be an actual news website. In the beginning, BuzzFeed was a little less like it was now. I actually used to browse on it. The past few years, it's nothing but a dumping ground for junk, advertising, clickbait and constant tabloid news about the same clans of famous for no reason people.

If you're in your teen years or early 20s, and love stupid pointless stuff, BuzzFeed is for you; not that you care, but I'll be judging you the entire way through. Again, BuzzFeed is infested with stupid articles, "lists", poor recommendations with almost no research, and also hires bloggers to contribute absolutely nothing important. They curate a bunch of stuff and put it together in one whole long mess. You can find the same content elsewhere without the BuzzFeed. So, like I said, if you like pointless and time-wasting content, BuzzFeed is the place for you. Every time I see the word BuzzFeed anywhere, I roll my eyes and pass it.

  • IMDb

4/9/17

I've used IMDB for over ten years and I always used the message boards as a way to find answers on movies. IMDB has decided to remove the message boards deeming it pointless and that it adds nothing resourceful. I don't agree and many people don't either. Now that the website has gotten rid of the boards, it's impossible to discuss or find answers to movies, especially independent movies and lesser known movies.

Therefore, it makes this website a little less resourceful than it was before. It gives accurate information for movies. Other than that, people will no longer have reason to visit this website. The most you can do is look at movies, upcoming films and what actors are in what films. I'm sure with the message boards gone, IMDB has lost traffic. I'm really disappointed. I always thought IMDB would be the most popular and permanent solution to movie discussions with other people, but I guess not. FAQs for films are helpful, but not as helpful as the message boards were.

  • Apple

4/8/17

I know this sounds like I'm exaggerating, but everything I purchased from Apple has not once failed me. I was always a Windows PC user and an Android user in the beginning. Although I think that these platforms have their benefits, almost every product I purchased failed me in one way or another.

However, I have purchased 5 iPads, 3 MacBooks, 1 iMac, and 5 iPhones since 2011 and NONE of them ever failed on me for any reason. I have had no issues and everything just worked. When I had a problem with my first MacBook upon receiving it in the mail, I took it to the store and they replaced it immediately. I love that I could just go to the store and have it fixed rather than pay and have it shipped back to a company warehouse for fixing.

Customer service at every Apple store I went to was very friendly and helpful. Their extended warranty prices are high though. I think the prices for the products are fair for how they perform. Their peripherals could use some work though. The Magic Mouse 2 and several other items are made poorly. They always shipped my items to me safely and ordering online was never a problem. The refurbished items also perform well and are a great bargain. And, they take returns on even custom builds with no questions asked and no restock fees. Overall, I haven't had issues with Apple. I'm quite pleased with them.

HSN
  • HSN

4/8/17

I watch HSN quite often. A lot of the products are helpful, convenient, sometimes gimmicky and most just junk. I ordered from them several times and haven't had any big issues with the service or products. My last order was the Bell + Howell Ultrasonic Pest Repeller. I was stupidly led to think this product would work because of the demonstration. Well, it doesn't work. Not for any sort of pest. Not even the ones mentioned on the show. The ticking light and sound is also not as "quiet" as they made it sound. It's actually really annoying at night.

Regardless, I didn't bother returning the item after having it for so long. It also took over a month for the item to even ship out from whatever warehouse was in. This was just my last experience that wasn't well, but I haven't had any other issues.

  • Adobe Systems

4/8/17

I've used several different design programs and in those years, I found Photoshop to be the only efficient one. Starting at Photoshop 6, I slowly made small upgrades between the programs when affordable. Yes, I agree, the standalone was expensive. However, people are in denial claiming that the subscription base is better. Think about it this way: you're paying them $50 a month for the rest of your life. Every year, that's $600 out your pocket and you don't even have the actual program that you own because CC is cloud-based.

And please don't tell me it's only $20 a month. That option is for students. Once your time is over, you're at the regular price, which sadly, for beginners, fresh graduates, or struggling freelancers, it's really a kick in the face. On top of that, if you don't wan't the latest updates or upgrades, you are still forced to pay whether you want them or not.

Don't get me wrong, I use plenty of Adobe's software. They're great. They've been getting overly bloated, but the tools are amazing and very useful. Adobe CC has its benefits too, but at the price of $50 a month, it's not worth many people's money. The only time it'll be worth it, is if you use at least 5 of the applications on a daily basis and want the newest version every time they release. That's why people either pirate their software or stick with Adobe CS6 which is the last non-subscription version. If this is the case, Adobe is only hurting themselves.

  • Warby Parker

4/8/17

I'm from New York City, and there's a Warby Parker here that is always packed. They receive a lot of praises and everyone loves them so I'm surprised to see a lot of bad experiences here. I discovered Warby Parker in a commercial and decided to go to the store. At the time, I wore a really distasteful pair of glasses. Despite what it seems, frames and lens at the optometrist is quite expensive. The price I paid for the frames and lens at Warby Parker was well worth my money. For people with really bad vision, the upgrade to the slimmer lenses is also worth it.

The customer service was great and I was glad to get glasses for such a low price. I throw my glasses everywhere and never put them into a case for storage (even though the case is really nice). I sat on the glasses by accident, they fall everywhere, and I generally don't take care of them. The last three years, the most damage the glasses received was two small scuffs on the lenses.

  • Acer

4/8/17

I always liked ASUS and someone told me that Acer is comparable in quality and in price. Well, I can say the prices are usually lower, but the products are awful. I purchased two laptops from Acer in less than two years.

The first one was about six months old when the hard drive failed. I sent it in to fix. It was fine but then the laptop started to overheat like crazy out of nowhere and then shut off. Then, the hinge on the screen broke so the screen fell flat on the surface unless something was propped behind it. After a year, when the warranty was over, the overheating was shutting off the computer too consistently so it was impossible to use; winter or summer, didn't matter what the temperature was.

Replacing the first laptop, the second one worked perfectly fine, until exactly a year passed when the warranty expired, that the laptop froze frequently with audio looping itself. Only way to fix was to power it off manually. The screen's backlight also failed and started to show dim and dark spots everywhere on the screen. Next, the battery was unusable after one year and a couple of months. It didn't hold a single among of charge, so I had to keep the laptop plugged in all the time unless I paid for another battery.

The first laptop was just me purchasing, but the second laptop was just poor judgment. I never purchased anything from Acer after this. It was a horrible mess. Shortly after, I purchased an HP laptop around the same price range and it was fine for years. I can't judge for the rest of Acer's products, but laptops are a no-go for me.

  • Swap.com

4/8/17

I was browsing on Swap out of curiosity. Although I wouldn't purchase on this website unless you know how a brand fits your size. They don't give enough details about anything. Knowing a size of a package is not the same as knowing the size of a pair of pants. Swap had a pair of jeans listed just called "Jeans". Absolutely no brand, no information, no measurements, no details. How are people supposed to know to buy this if all you're telling them is that it's a size Large?

As a consumer, I would highly recommending researching before purchasing from Swap. It seems like the prices are comparable to brand new items at certain stores, so why bother purchasing from here? I get if you live in an area that doesn't have stores available, but buying things from here, you're going to run into the risk of a complicated return.

On top of that, I wouldn't sell to them either. Their process seems close to criminal as ThredUp. $11 to process the items as a flat fee, that is fine and I'm willing to accept it. But 30% and $1.50 on each item? And on top of that, reject most of my items I sent over? No thanks. And I always thought eBay ripped me off on fees, but this website here is a winner. Again, good for buying, if you know what you're buying, and know you're not getting ripped off. However, bad for selling; in which case, if no one sold to them, they would have no inventory. Good!

  • Audible

4/8/17

The service itself is decent. I agree with other reviewers that it's quite expensive. Probably even more expensive than borrowing digital books. I was tempted to sign up for the 30 day trial but when I saw I had to input credit card information, I skipped it. Instead, with my Amazon Prime membership, I chose to listening to the free channels that supposedly a $60/year cost.

While the channels are interesting, Audible doesn't make access to listening very easy. First off, you can't listen to Audible on a Mac. They have complicated steps on how to stream your books through iTunes but doesn't seem to be available for channels. Second, the website offers nothing except links to download the app on various devices and platforms. Browsing on the website feels weird and awkward because you can't stream anything from there anyway. Thirdly, there is such thing as web-based streaming; Spotify has it. Amazon Music has it. Audible, for some reason, does not.

Therefore, you are forced to download an app onto your mobile device just to listen to stuff. So if you're on your desktop or laptop most of the times, and don't have your eyes glued to your phone all day, it's impossible to streamline your workflow because you have to use two devices. On top of that, apps nowadays are so untrustworthy; ready to spy on you, asking for access to everything, and probably even secretly phishing your information.

Again, the service itself is a fantastic idea. The user interface on the app is alright. However, you are so limited in terms of functionality and simple desktop availability. Without Amazon Prime for the free channels, the cost for simply listening to books is quite high and frankly, not worth my time or money. If you don't mind the price, or using only an app on your phone or tablet, Audible is for you. Also, watch out for the automated charge after 30 days. Although I'm aware of it, many people aren't.

  • Rakuten

3/27/17

I created an Ebates account under the impression of earning back a small amount of money. Their commercials presented women who claim to have earned hundreds of dollars back. While I'm entirely satisfied with the way the website has worked for me, it's not worth my time. Frankly, it's probably not worth many people's time. If you shop at places (as other reviewers mention) such as Amazon, Target, or even Rite Aid, you won't find any cash back. Or the cash back is for very specific categories that you'll probably won't find yourself purchasing from.

Again, I'm entirely fine with it since sign up was free and I'm not in a place to demand anything. However, seeing that I saved $0.04 from shopping at a store, or $0.30 at American Eagle, it's not even worth my time to log in and remember to "activate" my shopping session. I don't bother using Ebates anymore. This was just my experience. And honestly, Ebates here seem to have a ton of reviewers (a lot more than many websites rated here), and a lot of the reviews seem fake and suspicious to me. It doesn't inspire confidence to trust a company that needs to make fake accounts to write fake customer service reviews (which is weird because how often do people actually review eBates for customer service rather than the actual service?) Hmmm.

  • YahooAnswers

3/22/17

I'll state what many others have stated. I used to help people in the technology section around 8-9 years ago. At the time, the website was relatively alright and most people were helpful. Now, it's nothing but a sensational area of trolling and often, Yahoo Answers became a laughing stock posted everywhere while people laugh at the ridiculously stupid questions people ask.

In addition to this, when I asked questions out of the need of genuine help, the answers I received were downright rude, unhelpful or answers for no reason. For example, I got answers like "I don't know", "figure it out yourself", "do your research *pastes link here*".

As someone else also mentioned, Yahoo Answers community are just people giving replies with no way to correct any answers that could incorrect and even potentially dangerous. People are often racist on the website too. And it's sad people can just reply with anything and become Top Contributors while spouting out ridiculous opinions to things they know nothing about.

Most of the things I need help with are found on Quora and Reddit therefore I avoided Yahoo Answers. Even people there are almost 100 times much nicer than people in Yahoo Answers. Every time I click on a Yahoo Answers link to find answers, the replies are always so stupid that it infuriates me. Got a problem with your game? Stuck on a math homework? Yeah, you could get decent responses about those. Otherwise stay away from this website.

  • Grubhub

10/15/16

I had numerous different experiences using Grubhub and some been good. However, maybe Grubhub should explain how the service works when customers order. I ordered a sandwich and a pastry from a deli. The sandwich's egg was spicy by default which I think should've been an option not something default. They got me the wrong drink, gave me the wrong pastry and added a random item to my order.

Perhaps restaurants shouldn't list food on the menu that they always never have? I contacted Grubhub about the missing pastry that cost me $4.50 and they claimed to follow up with me about it and never did. It's been almost three years since I notified Grubhub of the issue. Never heard from them again.

Yes, I still use the service. But only when I'm extremely desperate. If I don't want to tip a driver, I simply won't order food or pick it up myself. This service is not worth my money. The drivers are sometimes rude, the order is sometimes wrong or mixed up, and the wait time is ridiculous. Plus, the order total is about $20 all the time for just one meal if you consider the restaurant's minimum, tax and tips or "fees". Don't forget that these delivery fees don't even go to the driver, which is even more ridiculous.
