  • The Penny Hoarder

8/10/23

Saw one of their ads on Facebook, "15 Companies That Will Give You Free Food and Other Products Just For Asking" and if you click the article ThePennyHoarder links you to, it's 100% a clickbait scam that tries to get you to sign up for scam survey websites and download apps. Remember folks, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Nothing is free and none of the websites or businesses listed will give you free products "just for asking"! The Pennyhoarder is spreading lies and false information as usual to get kickbacks from these unscrupulous websites. Don't get scammed.

  • Joann Fabrics

Double charges everytime I place an online order. Customer service is useless and claims the excess $ will be refunded when the order has shipped. Lies! A week passed; I received the items I purchased, still no refund so my bank had to force JoAnn to refund the excess $. JoAnns also cancels 3/4 of my order everytime I order online claiming they don't do real time inventory. Sending me half of an order is useless! I buy the yardage of fabric I need; less than that is useless. They don't give you the option to cancel your order completely but it's apparently OK if they decide not to ship 3/4 of your stuff you purchased. I think in reality the reason they cancel your order is because they don't want you to get the items on sale. The fabric I purchased was $3.99 a yard and Joann's website still showed over 200 yards were in stock AFTER my order was cancelled! I don't know how this sham company stays in business.

Tip for consumers:
Don't buy from JoAnn's; they double charge you and then won't refund the extra money, plus cancel 3/4 of your order.

  • Petco

3/29/22

It went from getting a $5 reward for every 100 points to now every 167 points! You only earn one point per dollar so now you have to spend $167 to get the $5 reward. Ridiculous! It was a mediocre rewards system to begin with when you had to spend $100 to get $5 and now they've nearly doubled it. Their new rewards system is just insulting to the customer. If they're going to be that cheap they should just do away with Pals rewards altogether. The rewards are now next to useless since the amount you have to spend to get the points is so ridiculous. Petco is not economical enough to warrant spending so much there. Most items can be ordered online or bought at another store much cheaper. Petco never sends coupons or anything with their loyalty program, which is why I prefer PetSmart.

  • Butterfinger

Nobody asked for a change to the classic Butterfinger formula, but when the company changed hands, that's what we got. Hated since the day it came out, the "new recipe" Butterfingers ruined the taste of a classic candy bar. Stores can't give them away and every single social media post by the company is met with hordes of fans demanded they change the candy bar back. Though so far, the company is ignoring the customers.

  • Kroger

My local Kroger, in Huntsville, Texas, has serious issues with selling lots of spoiled food, at both full and discounted price. I don't believe you should be knowingly selling customers spoiled food, period. The freezers and refrigerators seem to have serious issues at my Kroger. I have bought everything from milk to frozen meals only to find out its spoiled when I paid full price for it. Their refrigerators and freezers must not work right or something. Food is never past the expiration date but has always gone bad. Kroger doesn't seem to care in the slightest, as they continue to do nothing about it. What's the most offensive is despite the return policy stating that "All Kroger Co. Family of Stores can accept returns of items purchased at any Kroger Company family of stores location within a 30-day window of purchase" and there being no mention of food items being non-returnable, my Kroger will not allow you to return spoiled food that you just purchased the previous day, even when the items are not even close to the expiration date. After reaching about $300 worth of spoiled food I have ceased shopping here. Contacted corporate about the issue to no avail. Corporate admitted their store should have allowed the returns yet refuses to make it right.

  • Poshmark

10/11/21

Poshmark is full of scalpers asking outrageous prices for items. I know Poshmark fees are 20%, but asking 4X the new value for a used item is ridiculous and asking additional money for shipping on top of price gouging?! There are also so many rude and downright crazy sellers who belong in a mental institution. If you aren't sure you want to sell an item, why list it for sale if you are creepily attached to it? Or if everything is listed at your unrealistic "I don't want to sell it" price, why are you a seller on Poshmark in the first place? So much seller misconduct. Reporting sellers and reporting comments and users does nothing. Poshmark doesn't care if users repeatedly violate policy or even cuss you out. I'm convinced nothing gets you banned from this site. Poshmark support ignores everything and gives the same generic response for every inquiry. Poshmark doesn't seem to be on the side of buyer or the seller from my experience. There so are many issues with this website. Everything from a seller's average ship time rarely being accurate to ignored reported harassment and bullying in the comments sections to inactive sellers who have been inactive for months yet left all their listings active and the listings are never deleted. My advice is don't buy from here unless you absolutely to. Buyer protection is very flimsy and if a seller measures clothing wrong, you can't return it. Chances are even if the item is horribly not as described (damaged, dirty, smoke smells, etc.) you will not be allowed to return it.

  • Facebook

Facebook has gone too far on censoring posts. Things that can't even possibly be considered offensive are flagged and get you 3 day bans. Basically, if you post anything, however harmless it may seem, you're in danger of catching a ban. No point in being a member of Facebook if you have no free speech at all. Marketplace is horrible. I tried to buy one item that the seller offered shipping on, never heard from the seller and 3 days later my order was cancelled without a reason. People who put up car ads are completely unresponsive or flaky. My favorite is one guy who never answered any questions from anyone on his car he had listed for sale. Wouldn't tell anyone if the car had a title, had no useful information in his ad at all, horrible pictures, and then 3 days later, doubled the price of his car, still not stating whether he even had a title or not. He finally decided to reply days after doubling the price of the vehicle, stating he would not accept a PayPal deposit or anything for the car, even though he lived hours away, and would not guarantee he wouldn't sell it out from under me. And the man had the most impossible hours for anyone to pick up the car. Marketplace seems to have the worst sellers.

Posting on Craigslist is a joke. You spent a half hour making an ad, only for it to get flagged and removed nearly immediately by trolls, since Craigslist let's everyone and their mother flag ads without reason. You try contacting Craigslist about the issue and they're too good to even reply. If you're lucky enough for your ad to not get flagged two minutes after you post it, you will get contacted by nothing but spammers, scammers, and time wasters. All the people who claim to be interested in buying or even taking something for free are "no shows", and aren't even kind enough to tell you they changed your mind. You'll wait around all day for people to never show up. Conversely, buying is a nightmare as well. People never respond to their ads, which leads you to wonder why they put one up in the first place if they have no intention to sell. And don't even get me started on all the puppy mill and other inappropriate ads Craigslist doesn't remove.

  • Depop

7/14/21

Depop is a scammer's paradise. Nearly all of the "sellers" are inactive, despite having active listings. Depop does not remove inactive listings, so if you are unfortunate enough to buy from one of these sellers, you'll never get the item you paid for and you'll be out the money, despite Depop's fictitious "money back guarantee". Sellers list items for sale without a description, you ask the seller the size or another legit question about the item, and you never get a response. I'm convinced none of the sellers on Depop are legit. The "message to purchase" nonsense on some listings should also tip you off its not legit. So many active listings and inactive / scam sellers with no intent to sell. I've ran across a seller who had a "message to purchase" spiel on their listing, messaged them to purchase the item, only to be told they lost the item, even though there is no mention of this in the listing, and months later the item listing is still active for sale! I even ran across one seller who clearly put on their profile, "Nothing is for sale", despite having active listings for sale, and Depop would not remove the listings, despite checking back over the course of 2 months and the item listings still being active... If the items aren't for sale and aren't ever going to be for sale, the listings should have been removed. Customer service is a joke. I recommend buying from literally any other platform.

  • PINCHme

They don't even send full size samples. Sent me a teeny tiny box with about 4 samples two months after I joined, one of which was a microscopic, incredibly small sample of Haribo gummy bears. For such a tiny bag these people expected me to fill out a review for the gummy bears on Target.com, Walmart.com, and Walgreens.com. You've got to be kidding me! You don't even send me a full size sample and expect me to go to the trouble to write a paragraph review on THREE different websites? No way! This place never has any samples available, not even on their big "Sample Tuesday". None of the samples are even truly free, you have to sign up for some website or download a stupid app for everything, and it just isn't worth the effort for a fun size piece of candy or a singular band-aid... huge bait and switch website. I'm done with pinch.me after this! I honestly expected better. It's nothing but another scam.
