Since 1994 several books have been written about the well-planned killings that raged over the hills of this small and poor Central African country. Most of them are eyewitness accounts that try to grasp how the [End Page 198] chain of events could unfold in such a rapid and devastating way. While focusing on the 1990s, most of the authors start their analysis by digging into Rwanda's history from the pre-colonial period onwards, in an attempt to find the explanatory factors and political manipulations that predicted the 1994 genocide.
