Why all the bad reviews? How do I prevent getting products I dont want and will not use?

If you like goofy small, sometimes TINY, samples of weird products then Birchbox is great. Most products get tossed in the same drawer with my HOTEL sized products collected from our travels. Waste of time and money.

The box is meant to be a sampler, 5 products that are "featured" for the month. Sometimes they have a choice between 2 boxes, but as I said in the review, if you don't catch the email they send within a very short time frame, forget it. You get what you get. Everything is travel sized, so your trial of the products is short. I just bought this really nice "fish bowl" vase, that is my catch all container for all the crap I'm not really in a hurry to try. I have tried some things, I found a decent sunscreen/moisturizer from them I had never heard of before, and Sephora did not carry. But you rarely get a choice, and my makeup drawer was full of all the stuff I had no interest in. My favorite thing: Christmas is coming, and Sephora has wonderful samplers sets of many different brands and different products. They do sell out some brands faster than others, but you can get flash shipping for the year for $10, anything- no matter how big or small with 2 day shipping, $10 covers the year! And you get to chose 3 samples, every order, and the points you accumulate give you free premium sample sets in addition to the 3 regular samples. And during the year they have discounts, specials, birthday gift. Now I am a VIB member because I ordered so much stuff last Christmas, so I get a lot of special offers, maybe someone who does not order as much stuff you won't get the benefit. But I get more from shopping online. The store don't give you the samples or always have the same offers. But I never feel like I've been duped, I chose my samples, my sets from my points-if I don't like what they offer at the time, I wait a month and hold whatever I was looking at in my cart, I get the emails telling me if there is some new reward or fantastic product out there. The stores will sometimes give you samples of products to try if they can, cleansers I know they do. Birchbox you get what you get and hope for the best, not a great way to "try something" you pay for to put on your face or in your hair.
