Amazon purchases will not count toward earning "cash back" rewards. However, sometimes there are special coupons or codes that can be applied to Amazon purchases, and you can redeem your cash back rewards toward an Amazon gift card instead of actual cash at a higher rate of exchange so your earned points go further. I love that option.
