One of the first questions asked is which language you would like to use. Usually set to English as default. I would suggest you do a factory reset if you are stuck or contact customer service.
If you don't have your Roku set up to automatically update under system settings then that would definitely help. I would try that first and see if it works. You can also go to the channel icon ie: Netflix and instead of entering hit the * and you'll get a pop up with different options, choose update and see if that helps. The icons should not be grayed out... just saw the date on this and went oh welllll...
