When my item arrived the parcel had a note to say that anything with a value of over £14 incurred a customs charge. In addition there was an international postage charge by Royal Mail. I had to pay Royal Mail £12.50 to release my item.
I think if you are unfortunately targeted by the customs, It maybe because they are looking for shapes of parcels and from which country.
