Aaron was friendly and answered all my questions promptly before the purchase. However, some of the disc from the Blu-ray boxset I brought did not work, and when I requested a refund, they just ignored my email for 3 weeks. I wrote it off as bad debt.
I lived in Christchurch all my life, and I know for a fact that the address they listed on the website does not have a DVD office/shop. Also, their phone number's country code is 61 belongs to Australia, whereas the country code for NZ is 64.
Despite the name of the company NZ DVD Shop, the NZ website address. I checked, and this business is not a registered NZ company. As they are an overseas company, NZ consumers are not protected under the consumers guarantees act.
There are some negative reviews out there regarding them not providing refunds for defective products.
One person lost $250 for the defective DVD boxset and the courier cost (the returning shipping address for their factory in China they provided was incorrect. Again, they ignored the request for a refund for over half a year)
In hindsight, I wished I had paid attention to the red flags rather than getting lured by their free shipping and return policy. (Which they can change whenever they want. Alternatively they can just ignore your emails, and there is nothing you can do about it)

My friends and I planned to buy a few box sets and movies from NZ DVD Shop. Doing my due diligence, I found a few negative reviews online from customers who got refused refunds as promised. There is nothing the customers can do as they are overseas trader.
I emailed the business to enquire the origin of their business, and Aaron replied and confirmed they are an Australian company and not registered in NZ.
However, for all intents and purposes, they gave the impression they are an NZ company with the business name "New Zealand DVD shop", the website with 'co.nz' at the end, and an NZ address in Christchurch. It is misleading and deceptive conduct.
While NZ consumers will be protected under the consumer guarantees act. However, it's hard to enforce your consumer rights when you are buying from an overseas trader online.
So for all NZ consumers, buy at your own risk.

Tip for consumers:
It's better to pay a bit extra to have peace of mind. If it sounds too good to be true, then be extra cautious. Stay safe online everyone.

The customer service was excellent before purchase, so I bought a couple of Blu-ray movies. Their refund procedure was seemingly easy. After I received the Blu-ray movies, one of the movies didn't work. They ghosted me after I requested a full refund for the faulty Blu-ray movie.
There has been no reply and no refund! I don't expect I will ever hear from them again or get my money back.

Tip for consumers:
Their refund policy and free shipping is there to entice you to buy. It's all meaningless after the sale and there is a problem with the product.

Verified purchase

Not worth 1 star!
If you don't want to waste your money and time, don't buy any products from this business.
I bought a DVD box set for $127.75, but some of the discs had watermarks on the surface, and others were defective. I emailed the photos and asked for a replacement box set. They couldn't give me a replacement box set because they ran out of stock, so they agreed to give me a full refund, but I needed to return the DVD box set to China. (Despite the box set being sent from Sydney). The website did not mention customers would need to send the products to their China factory for refunds. I would not have bought from this website if they disclosed this as part of their refund procedure. I was reluctant to send it to China, but they informed me that it's where I needed to return the defective goods. Therefore, I had no choice but to do what they requested to get a refund.
They advised me that I had to pay for the courier cost, and when they received the returned box set, they will issue the refund for the defective box set and the courier cost.
However, the return shipping address they provided is incorrect. NZ Post had confirmed that China Post could not deliver the parcel as the address was incorrect. Furthermore, the address they provided could not be found using Google Maps. I advised Aaron of this immediately and told him to get their factory to contact China Post with the correct address. While he said he would do so, unfortunately, nothing has been done to rectify their mistake.
Aaron was helpful and friendly at the beginning, has ignored my emails after I requested a refund of the courier cost of $119.40 in January, as the fault lies with them for providing an incorrect address.
I've sent more emails requesting a refund, but they have ignored all emails since January. They owe me $250 for the faulty DVD box set and the courier cost for providing me with the wrong return address.
They have no credibility as they do not adhere to the agreement at the time of the purchase. There is nothing you can do when they ignore your emails and refused to give you a refund you are entitled to.
They gave the impression that they are an NZ company with their business name, an NZ website address, and a Christchurch address. However, they are actually an Australian company and did not register in NZ.
Usually, NZ consumers can lodge a claim against them with the Disputes Tribunal and get their money back. However, as the NZ DVD shop operates from Australia, the Disputes Tribunal does not have jurisdiction to hear a claim and make orders of parties outside of New Zealand, which means any outcome from a hearing is unenforceable.

Tip for consumers:
Knowing what I know now, please don't get lure in by their free shipping and return policy at the time of purchase. The business can amend these at anytime without your consent or knowledge. If something goes wrong, you won't be able to get your money back if they refuse to, as the Disputes Tribunal have no jurisdiction of the business.
