“CAMA Experience”

Sabrina D.
11/16/17

CAMA was a rich experience full of various perspectives, and at times, passionate dialogue - a factor missing from most other conferences. The food was delicious and plentiful. MC was warm and hilarious. Networking was excellent and great to reconnect with old colleagues/friends. I would only encourage the panel discussions to have more dialogue with each other and banter, rather than the pre-planned Q&A - spontaneous discussion is more memorable.

“Dis-organized”

Robert W.
1/6/17

As a sponsor and delegate I found this year to be very unorganized. I did not receive any information about the trade show until the day I was travelling to Ottawa, when I checked into the hotel they did not have any idea where things were happening, I had to leave everything for our booth in my truck. There was not much traffic at the trade show and in conversation with different people they didn't even know it was going on and as well it was not clearly identified. This has been my 4th CAMA and there was something really missing this year, hopefully next year in Toronto will be better.

We apologize, we don't like that your experience with CAMA 2016 was less than stellar!
Unfortunately there are some things that are out of our control, but we will rectify this year!
We look forward to seeing you at our Silver Anniversary and thank you and your organization for your support.

Meeting representatives from various Aboriginal communities was invaluable. Hearing individuals express their experiences associated with the persistent impacts of residential schools on entire communities (not simply those that were scooped) provided me with greater insight and will serve to inform my work moving forward.

Good panels and topics but I think it should be less expensive to have a booth at the show. There are some smaller vendors that would benefit by presenting their products and services.

I was disappointed with the President's dinner, the price was high and they didn't even ask for our ticket, so anyone could've walked in. There wasn't as many vendors as in Vancouver. There were some delays.

We're sorry that you didn't enjoy the PNE dinner!
Unfortunately we had to limit the vendors in Ottawa because of space allocation.
CAMA relies on their sponsors to help keep the costs down for our delegates.
We hope that this year we will make up for it!

Conference is low key and comfortable. It has relevant attendees, guests etc. the panel discussions could be sharpened somewhat, can drag on sometimes. The idea is good but needs good management and challenging questions that push the debate. Overall a good conference, one of the better ones that we attend.

About the business

Why visit a CAMA event?

As Canada's longest serving Aboriginal mineral sector not-for-profit organization, you will hear directly from community Elders, youth, women and men, leaders on issues related to resource development. You will hear from leaders from industry, communities and government on how to move forward creating benefits and certainty for all. You will hear from learned judicial and legal representatives who know the trends in law with respect to consultation, consent, title and agreements. You will hear the first hand experiences of youth, elders, hunters, trappers, fishers, our community scientists, those affected by resource development decisions.

Business History

Founded in 1992, CAMA is an Aboriginal not-for-profit organization which seeks to increase the understanding of the minerals industry, Aboriginal mining and Aboriginal communities' paramount interests in lands and resources. Through increasing this awareness, all parties will benefit.

CAMA acts as an instrument for the advancement of Aboriginal community economic development, mineral resource management and environmental protection.

CAMA was formed out of the need expressed by Aboriginal communities. By establishing relations, negotiating practical benefits agreements, jointly addressing mineral exploration and development issues, and mitigating negative impacts as partners with mining companies, Aboriginal communities advance to economic self-sufficiency.

CAMA presents an annual conference on The Resource Industry and Aboriginal Community Development each year, which is the premier go-to Aboriginal minerals conference in the country.
