“Bad experience in the end”

IBC has an excellent sales department with prompt replies to any questions. However, the positive ends there. After sale service takes weeks to answer and is very dismissive of all problems even when IBC is clearly at fault. Car inspections are not carried out properly. Their claim policy is basically nonexistent as they just say 'the car had no problem when we inspected it' and dismiss the case. Here are the details of my experience. I placed several bids for a Subaru Forester to be exported to Kenya and had two winning bids. Before bidding I explicitly stated I wanted to purchase one car only. I was pleased that IBC asked me to choose one of the two vehicles. Among the two similar Forester (year of manufacture 2015 and 2016 respectively) the second one was better in any respect: newer, lower mileage, with more features, and better tyres. The price difference was only 400$ so I obviously chose the latter. Few days later the car was removed from my basket because it was found to have a major problem with AC and a minor one with the engine. The 2015 Forster was placed in my basket instead. I was a bit disappointed but I was reassured that the 2015 car had no issues. Both cars were 4.5 grade which is one of the highest. While waiting for the delivery of the 2015 Forester I started bidding for a second unit. Surprisingly, at this point I was offered to buy the same 2016 Forester that I had been denied a few weeks earlier. I was very surprised to learn it no longer had a major issue with AC but only a minor one with the AC condenser that could be fixed by paying an extra 200/300 USD. It no longer had an issue with the engine. I declined the offer and prefered to choose another car. When the 2015 Forester arrived at the port in Mombasa I learned it had some missing external parts (spray nozzle cover, tow bracket cover back and front). When I reported it, IBC dismissed the problem by hinting that these parts were stolen at the port in Mombasa and asked to check with my clearing agent. I placed an order for these small plastic covers which are ridiculously expensive. When I finally received the car the AC was not working. Got it checked at Subaru Kenya that found out that the AC condenser was leaking and needed to be replaced. I spent over 600USD for that. At this point I remembered that the 2016 Forester had a problem with the AC condenser. It's too much of a coincidence to have 2 units with the same problem. I reported it to IBC and suspected them to have mixed up the two units and given me the one unit with the AC problem. I even suspect they deliberately gave me the unit with issues in order to resell the other unit for a higher price. After weeks of following up they dismissed the claim. I insisted on the refund and they eventually replied, after several weeks, that they would refund me the 600 USD but only in the form of a discount staggered on my next purchases. However, they didn't apply the discount on the second car I was buying from them at the time. They actually waited until I paid the full amount before giving me this "offer". Here comes the cherry on top of the cake. Do you remember the missing plastic covers on the exterior of the car? Few weeks after I purchased them, IBC informed me that their technicians had removed the covers and hidden them behind the dashboard before shipping it to prevent them from being stolen! All this without informing me in advance. Not even an apology they offered for that! My second bid on a Nissan x-trail was almost 400USD above the price I set as a limit which was already generous. I could have got a similar car from Japanese Vehicles for a much lower price. For some reason they decided it was worth overbidding for it. The car had two missing interior handles that I had to purchase separately and visible scratches on the exterior. When the car arrived I found out it had a sonar problem that compromised the parking aid system, and the automatic braking system. Nissan asks 200 USD just for diagnosing the problem. Considering that these features were the main reasons why I bought this car, I'm very disappointed about it to say the least. In conclusion, my experience with IBC was very negative and I strongly advise to not buy second hand cars from them.
