First, a shout out to all the supervisors at Pointe Meadows Rehab. They are very professional and quick to respond when issues arise. A nurse with off the shoulder length hair with gray/white/brown hair coloring was wonderful. The nurse with longer hair and glasses was very unprofessional and looked down on mom. Rehab was good, we loved the wonderful man that got my mom up and going. In all fairness mom is not your regular 89-year-old. Mom's thoughts are that to strengthen an elderly person, a few extra rehab moments daily would have gone a long way. One time a day just did not meet her needs, she wanted to go home and was willing to work for it. Group rehab slowed progress down. My mom is eighty-nine but is spunky and wants to get back on her feet. She is a fighter but needed challenging techniques and help. We will be providing this for her at home with hourly challenges to strengthen.

However, professionalism does not filter down as well or this place would be amazing. We heard through the grape vine, Pointe Meadows was a wonderful place, about a year ago. However, something has changed, and we were taken back by our experiences that were shocking some days. The first few days, my mom was so upset and wanted to go home. We told her she needed to transfer to her walker, and by dang she did that quickly. I asked my mom why she disliked this place so much and she spilled out her experiences (she hates being negative, not her nature). The first couple days, aids would come in and ask if she needed something, or another and mom said yes. Well, they never came back to carry out their promise of returning. The button to ring for help was seldom answered.

THIS IS A NURSING FACILITY, it is expected residents will NEED EXTRA HELP. Mom praised a couple nurses but was worried and concerned about the robotic insensitive others that responded with praises, "This is how we do things" and "you are confused." Humm not my mom, her memory tops mine and she is very savvy. The belittling attitude and acting distant because moms' questions were not okay, and their attitude turned snarky and unwelcoming. This was one of the reasons she wanted out of the Rehab. She feared a few employees. You hear horror stories of being mistreated and this was foreign to my mom, from her other rehabs experiences, she was well loved and treated as a valuable patient. They were SOOO short staffed. DON'T take patients if you don't have the people to care for them. This is a skilled nursing facility.

One night while visiting late, addressing her texts about an awfully dreadful day, to hear moms' concerns, someone came in to give mom meds and made sure we understood she was in a hurry on time. She brought in a cup of pudding that had already been used. I only saw one spoon and she double dipped for mom's meds. Was she in such a hurry she used the same cup and doubled dipped before mom's turn. Not professionally looking at all and this is an excessively big concern with COVID lurking still. This seems to blend with the treatments already presented, nonprofessional or untrained. I had to get my mom ready for bed that night, gladly, but she would not have received the NURSING SIDE of this need.

The one disturbing thing my mom told me was the nail in the coffin, she had to be removed from Pointe Meadows. Mom was told she needed help getting up and going to the bathroom. Again, it is hard to get help for that. One younger lady put mom in the bathroom. However, she forgot about mom and left her there for an hour. Mom has lymph-edema and gout. She pulled the emergency button six times, NOTHING. She banged on the wall. At one point she was in a lot of pain and tried and tried to move for relief. She about toppled over twice. She had surgery on her neck 8 months earlier repairing a broken neck. If she had fallen forward, that would have been the end of my mom. I KNOW FOR A FACT workers HAD TO walk by her room, it was mid-afternoon, and her light WAS IGNORED. MY mom was terribly upset and scared for her safety even more WOW! We hired an aid to sit by my mom's side most of the day to make sure "upset" workers do not retaliate. We instigated a quicker discharge. My sister works for the state and over nursing facilities and assisted living and said this was a big-time violation. Lawsuit! You got the idea and will end here. What is funny, if you squeak you are the bad guy and everyone after that point acted cold towards mom. The gossip circles started. THEY DID THE WRONG, NOT MY MOM. As mom's family we disliked waiting one more night for proper discharge and me not there looking out for her.

Lastly, a supervisor visited and wanted to know why we wanted to discharge our mom after 4 days. Then she proceeded to tell us to check out early we'd have to pay back Medicare and it gets messy. Well I called Medicare and they verified this was false information. After 3 days, one can leave without a problem. So the nasty was the misgiving information to scare us into keeping mom in this place. WOW, not the case at all.
