“Really, really good subscription box!”

Andy H.
6/10/21

I already have a subscription to Tokyo Treat (which I absolutely love!) so thought I would sign up to 3 months of Sakuraco to get something a little different and I think it's fantastic. There's such a good variety in each box, and having some of the homeware items each month gives a lot more longevity to what you've received (compared to snacks only, which usually only last a few days in my case!). I would really recommend Sakuraco to anyone interested in Japan :)

“Expensive and dishonest intentions”

Danielle L.
8/17/21

I wanted to share for you all my experience here. I looked at this and other reviews and agonized over the very high price point before purchasing a box. Especially with the converted Canadian price and shipping cost, this is VERY expensive for a small box of snacks ($50)) I eventually decided to try one and while it is quite a delightful unique offering, they lack severely in customer service and they are a bit dishonest and sneaky. It is very easy to accidentally sign up for a second subscription (when you think you are just extending your first one) and end up with two of the same very expensive box. And if you buy one month, it automatically renews you for a second one even if you start a 3 month subscription (like I did). For me this also didn't look obvious on their hard to find/navigate portal. It's very difficult, contrary to what the FAQ says to find and be in the right circumstances to skip a box. And when you try to work with them on the fact that you have two of the exact same very expensive treat being packed to be sent to you they simply don't care and will not work to rectify the situation at all. To me that's very dishonest and misleading and they seem to do it purposefully. I feel ripped off, and when I planned in my bidget and splurged, I was planning to pick 4 different boxed I thought looked most interesting, instead I have two of the same box and the September box shipped before I had a change to see what was in it and select it. And they basically said oh well too bad. For this reason, as soon as my 3 box commitments are met I will not be renewing this service. If you have lots of spare cash and aren't picky about maximizing your spend, skipping months etc. then the treats are mostly excellent and unique. But if you think you may need any complexity or this is a big financial decision, then I would not recommend this.

I'm coming from the Tokyo Treat box, which already featured awesome snacks i enjoyed every month. Since Sakuraco came up i swapped to this box, because I enjoy tea and sweets.
All items i tested until this day were just awesome. The box itself is designed lovely. The booklet includes a lot of interesting information and features some additional articles about japan and it's prefectures.
Go and test the box on your own!

Saw Sakuraco ad via my Tokyo Treat box and decided to give it a try as I love traditional japanese sweets.

Got April box. Unfortunately I'm not too fond of the inedible stuff like porcelains, and to make it worse, my cup was somewhat chipped below the sakura pattern.

Some cakes were dry as I feared, but over than half others were good and I actually did love some items.

In all, my first Sakuracobox was less satisfying than my first TT box, but I will still give it some try regardless.

I hope May box will be better experience. Still wishing we could trade the porcelains with more snacks instead.

Tip for consumers:
Soft pastry and monaka may end up dry or saggy.

The snacks are fantastic, and I hope they keep their service running for a long time. Every single box feels delicately packed, and all of my snacks have arrived in great condition. The kitchenware is sturdy and cute.

This would be a great gift for those who have trouble trying new things - none of it has been a miss and the flavors are incredibly unique. They seem to care a lot about their customers.

Tip for consumers:
It is great for people who have allergies to peanuts - nothing has peanuts. There are allergy warnings on the website for every product you will receive (BEFORE you order it). The textures, scents, and tastes are very.. Calming. I have mild autism and trying new things is hard.

This was a good experience.

This is a review of June's box and my first box. I thought they were presented well in a nice box and the information book was excellent. All items were fresh. My only real criticism is and maybe a culture thing, but there was not a lot of taste and although each item was individually presented they all were very much the same in texture and content. As l have stated this was my first box and l can't fault the company in dlivery, presentation or quantity and after three boxes then perhaps a better evaluation maybe ascertained on the content of taste and variation. This is very much a more positive review than a negative one

I daresay the most authentic and best snack subscription box out there. If you are looking for an authentic Japanese snacks with Afternoon Tea as their main concept then this is what you're definitely have to have! The snacks and home goods are impressive and delightful. The items just keeps getting better and better each month! Simply love it!

This is the first box that I bought in, I've been wanting to buy a Japanese treat box for a very long time years even. I feel so welcomed by the message in this box and it's items. This will not be my last purchase from them, I'm planning on buying more boxes as the months passed. I got my money's worth in the product sent but what really makes me happy is the whole experience, thank you.

The #sakuraco box is packed full of delicious treats straight from Japan. It was like opening a treasure chest: getting to uncover all kinds of fun new things I've never seen or tried before. It also comes with a beautifully orchestrated booklet full of information on each item included in the box so you know what you have (since 98% of the subscribers probably know zero Japanese, this is INCREDIBLY useful), as well as providing some history and cultural insight. This subscription is really worth it if you're interested in exploring some flavors of Japan!

Tip for consumers:
Expect a solid $10-15 additional cost in taxes and shipping. It's a fun service, totally worth it.

The aesthetic is BEAUTIFUL, right off the bat. Even just the box itself is lovely. Each box so far has come with super cute dishes ( a tea mug and a plate), as well as a variety of delicious Japanese snacks and 1 traditional tea. The small snacks usually come in pairs, as well as the tea. There's a pamphlet that goes over what's in the snacks and the traditions behind the snacks and the people that make them. It's just so thoughtful and well put together, I love it.

Tip for consumers:
You have to pay for express shipping and it can get kind of pricey when you include that.

Overall pretty good but have to agree with other reviews that the box isn't cheap. With shipping it's almost US$50 per box, and most of the snacks, while tasty, aren't anything dissimilar to what you can find in Asian supermarkets in North America. For the May box the special snack was the puffer fish, but the air-filled plastic bag wasn't enough to protect it and there was no extra cushioning whatsoever so it came crushed into many pieces and it was quite disappointing. The info booklet was a nice touch and pleasant surprise, and there were two extra snacks from the April box included. I like the box and the marketing and packaging are beautiful, but on the fence because of cost and not sure if I would continue to subscribe once my current one is up.

I have just received these boxes as a birthday gift and I was astonished to see how many different unique snacks were in the box. Unfortunately I will not be able to try everyone of these tasty snacks because of an allergy to gluten but I was glad that the pamphlet in the package contained allergens and ingredients for each of the snacks. I appreciated that very much and recommend this to people who enjoy learning and appreciating Japanese culture or anyone would like like to try some tasty snacks from around the world!

I had paid for two subscription boxes from the same company, they are themed treats and drinks mailed from Japan. One subscription was for three months and the other (Sakuraco) for a year. The automatic renewal option was hidden in their web site and only found out when an authorized charge went through my bank for another three month subscription. When I disputed the charge with my bank, the company stopped sending the remaining boxes for second subscription (already paid 12 months). I lost more than $500 dollars in that subscription, I emailed them and send them messages in their social accounts just to be ignored, I filed a claim with my state consumer agency but because they are from Japan they couldn't do anything. Do not give them your business, it is a scam.

I just started receiving my year-long subscription to this Japanese treat and tea box and it is well worth the full year subscription price; I had good experiences previously with Yume Twins so figured it was worth the risk! The treats are delicious and come with a very nicely prepared catalog with stories about each item, the teas quite good as well though slightly disappointed to have only two small tea satchels this month, but also a beautiful piece of ceramic ware thankfully carefully packaged each month; only reason it's not four stars is some of the treats get a little squished in transit and some have an outer coating that is somewhat styrofoam in texture.

Tip for consumers:
Well worth the savings if you subscribe for the full year!

I received the April 2021 "Matcha Moments" box as a gift. I LOVE it! The soft milk and strawberry baumkuchen was especially tasty. The sakura patterned yunomi made a beautiful addition to my teacup collection. I am extremely happy with all the delightful treats included. I also love that an information booklet was included that contained not only information about the treats themselves, but small articles about various ingredients, a prefecture spotlight, and the various artisans. A perfect gift... even if it is for yourself!

I love my Sakuraco box and am always looking forward to the next month's box! The shipping time for the boxes rivals even domestic shipping, which is impressive since it is coming from halfway around the world! I love the products, there is a great variety of traditional tea time treats that range from cookies, cakes, crackers, candies, pudding, tea and one homeware item. I would recommend this box to anyone who enjoys learning about Japanese culture and/or loves tea time.

I was so happy with my order at Sakuraco. I got a recommendation from a friends and I was not disappointed, it got shipped and delivered in just a couple of days and it had some really good sweets. It was also really nice to get the little booklet which had both information about the sweets and information about Japanese culture and why some of the sweets were in this particular box, really interesting!
This was the first box I received and it was better than I imagined! I can't wait to find out what's in the next box!
