Top Critical Review

“Extremely poor service replacing a Ridgid battery with Lifetime Service Agreement (LSA).”

Tom H.
1/16/24

Registered battery for replacement on website on 11/17/2023. Received label for FedEx to return. Required Hazardous labels were NOT attached in the email, despite email saying they were. Found some label images on the web, printed and used them on the box. Despite RMA email saying take package to FedEx, FedEx said I must call for pick up. Package can not be accepted at their shipping centers. Ridgid website says email will be sent upon receipt of original battery. Two weeks after actual delivery I received acknowledgement of item receipt and "Wait for our evaluation". 3 weeks and a day later I received email "Item will be replaced. Wait for tracking information". 4 days later I received email with "Shipped, and tracking info below." There was NO tracking information in the email. 1 week later I called. Spent 1 hour and 5 minutes on hold and was told "Nothing shipped. Hold on, I'll get someone to ship it". Was told to call back in a few days. (At over 1 hour hold times?!) Finally was promised they would email me the tracking number. I'm now over 2 months since I started the process. Still waiting for receipt of replacement battery. Absolute the worst possible fulfillment process.

Tip for consumers:
Ridgid either doesn't know how bad this company's service is, or they are complicit and don't care about their customers in the least.

Products used:
This business handles Lifetime Service Agreements (LSA) for Ridgid power tools. I have two 18 volt batteries under their Lifetime Service Agreement that need replacement. They agree to replacement, but that process is a nightmare.

First let me say, I am a huge fan of Ryobi products, which is owned by TTI Group NA. One of my Ryobi batteries casing partially melted and I sent TTI an email asking for a replacement. The battery was new. A very nice representative, Alyssa Burns, contacted me and asked for a picture of the melting battery. I sent the photo on August 23,2021. On August 26, the emailed me and told me the battery was ordered. On September 14th, I emailed again asking when I would receive the battery. Ms. Burns emailed me back on Sept. 16th that it was back-ordered and they should receive the batter by the next week. It is now October 6th and still no battery. It's a hurry up and wait situation. These batteries cost around $180 at a local big box DIY type store. It appears the TTI Group NA is painfully slow in fulfilling two of their six points in the "Mission, Values and Quality" statements: (1) Doing the Right thing, and, (6) Exceeding Customer Expectations. (As a side note, one of Ryobi's batteries I had on charge in January 2021, exploded in my garage and I was unaware of it until the house filled with acrid smoke. It took the fire department to put the battery out after I had used 4 foam fire extinguishers on it. It took a friend and I one entire day of cleaning the entire house to get rid of the smoke damage. I was so traumatized by the whole experience, I never asked TTI Group NA to replace the 5 burned batteries, charger, the stand alone rolling tool box and tools that I lost in the fire. Watching one of these batteries explode and burn is like watching a mini-fireworks display! I now only charge the batteries outside, when I doing yard work and can watch the battery.)

Tip for consumers:
If you have to ask TTI Group NA to replace a faulty product, expect a very long wait.
