“BUYER BEWARE: Vizier Records / VICI Playlists - payola with extra steps, bait-and-switch scam”

Alan F.
12/1/23

Vizier Playlists (previously known as "VICI Playlists") is a scam taking advantage of smaller artists. Their Patreon is a bait-and-switch scam: when you first sign up, they will add your song to one of their larger (>20k+ follower) playlists, but will remove it within two weeks. In the following month, you'll be lucky to get featured in one of the tiny playlists (<1,000 followers). After that, they will repeatedly reject the exact same song they playlisted previously. If you question VIZIER about their inconsistent curation practices, they will either revert their decision without explanation or block you on Patreon -- further confirming there is no actual curation going on, just payola with extra steps. Vizier claims to "not participate in payola" but their inconsistent & arbitrary curation process would suggest VIZIER Playlists is just payola with extra steps. It would seem placements on VICI's larger playlists are reserved for subscribers to VICI's more expensive "Curator" and "Label" tier ($1,000/mo) tier. Vizier also removes songs every two weeks but only accept submissions every month -- literally every other playlist curator works on a monthly basis to ensure consistent results. Analysis with ChartMetric or IsItAGoodPlaylist of VIZIER's playlists reveals unusual linear follower growth and a concerning follower:like ratio, suggesting these playlists are mostly bot streams / fake listeners. VIZIER has steadily hiked their prices over the last two years (now 5X what they cost in 2020) while the quality has consistently dropped, and they are taking advantage of musicians with this bait-and-switch scam. Highly do not recommend working with these people who clearly do not represent the best interests of musicians and are deliberately trying to hide their "payola" practices that violate Spotify's policies.
