I sent in 8 Clean-Up bags, and they all arrived on 7-4-23 or thereabouts. The bag I have referenced showed to have been at the center on 7-4-23. I can no longer confirm this because it has been taken off my list. Anyhow, they lost the bag that I have been inquiring about since the uploading of my other seven bags. I was told not to worry, and the extension date of completion kept being moved out.
I have been a loyal customer of ThredUP for many years. I have questioned their review policy due to a Chico's Suede jacket that I sent in and was not selected and could not be found when I asked to have it returned. There have been other instances, but I continued to support the company.
The loss or theft of this bag is the last straw. This bag contained moderately to high-end handbags from Coach and Dooney & Burke, Chico dresses and jackets, and other items that would have gained me a better return, and they only offered me $103.89 for the bag.
Their terms and conditions state: "Consignment Clean Out Kits. You will continue to own and have title to each item of Property that we have accepted until that item is "sold". An accepted item will be considered sold when: (a) thredUP buys your item or (b) an item is sold by thredUP to a customer and not returned to thredUP within the then-current return window. Any items will immediately and irrevocably become the Property of thredUP at the expiration of the listing window and will not be returned, unless Return Assurance is applicable, or if the item (1) is eligible to be reclaimed; and (2) is timely reclaimed under these terms."
I forwarded this to Customer Service with the following comments, "My items have yet to be sold by your company or physically returned to me. I am still the owner of the items until, as you said in your Terms, ThredUP purchases my items or is sold by ThredUP. So my compensation and loss of my property is worth more than your offer. I entrusted you with my items so that you would maintain them, secure them, and sell them. You failed on all three levels."
They have yet to respond to my counteroffer. Since the items are mine until they sell them, everything in the bag is mine that has been lost or stolen. They should compensate me for my loss, not their estimated loss of revenue.
This is the first time I have made this post, and I am not comfortable doing so, but I have been tolerant of their lack of customer support and how they treat any customer. I know this complaint will not get my items back, nor will it give me the compensation I want, but I want others to know that ThredUP is not a credible company and that they are taking advantage of their customers and those who submit items to be sold.
Included in the seven bags were two bags of baby clothes. These bags cost me $14.99 for over 30 items. I was going to receive $0.19 on average per item. The bags would not pay for themselves, and I would have been better off donating them to Goodwill.
ThredUP lists me as one of their VIP members, but I do not know of other companies that treat their VIPs this way. I am so disappointed in what has happened, and I am waiting for the last of my items to be sold or expired, and then I am done with ThredUP.
