Some culinary and medicinal tea herbs I ordered were not fresh and of low potency, lacking the essential oils, eg., lemongrass, fennel, peppermint, so obviously of poor quality. I have also had a couple herb orders in the distant past that had a mildew smell, though maybe they are more careful now, I do not know since I don't order from them anymore. The main reason I don't order from them is their prices are comparatively higher than other organic herb companies and they do not test every lot for heavy metals which I think is vital especially with issues of known contamination becoming more common as herbs are increasingly sourced from all over the world. Organic is no guarantee that heavy metals my be naturally occuirring in the soil in certain regions, this is well documented for lead, cadmium, and arsenic. Interestingly, I live near the city where MRH's is located and local organic/whole food stores do not stock in their bulk sections MRH products and instead source from further across the country as they listed the supplier on the bulk herb bin. That was very telling and confirmatory to me of the poor quality of MRH's if based on values of supporting buy local they would not even stock from this company.

Hey Brik, we're so sorry to hear that you have not been 100% satisfied with your previous purchases from us. We always want our customers to love what they receive from us and have very thorough procedures in place for when customers do not. Have you reached out to our Claims and Returns Department about this? If not, that is highly recommended. All matters of quality we receive are reviewed and a quality control investigation is conducted to ensure the products you are inquiring about do in fact meet our specifications. We also have a 30-day return policy if these items do not meet your expectations or you do not wish to have a quality control investigation conducted on these items.

As for our testing procedures, we do test products that are at risk for heavy metal contamination. The types of testing we do is herb (and farm) specific. We are very open about our testing and provide Certificates of Analysis for all of our botanical offerings. You can request these before or after a purchase by contacting support@mountainroseherbs.com

As for local stores carrying our offerings, many local Eugene stores do carry our botanicals, and often those found in bulk bins are not labeled as such. We are in the process of revamping our bin labels which will hopefully help with better visibility. In addition to this, we are not currently working with distributors, which is often a requirement for being in medium to large grocery stores. Instead, we work directly with our "mom and pop" local stores and are looking to expand in the future.

We hope this information has been helpful and has offered some helpful solutions. Please let us know if we can help with anything else. ~Jess
