Let me start by saying that I was initially made aware of this particular property through the airbnb website. I then proceeded to purchase it through Expedia, which operates as a third-party seller. Now I know from experience that pictures aren't everything, and just because it looks nice on a website, that doesn't mean you're going to get EXACTLY what's pictured. With that being said, my family and I were looking for a nice place to rent in Dallas for the weekend, so instead of going with a traditional hotel, we wanted something with extra space with an accommodating pool for the kids. I came across this beautiful home that was spacious and had a pool, so I reached out to the listed contact from the airbnb site and asked before booking "was the pool usable" and was assured that the pool was indeed usable, and if I had any other questions to reach out.
Upon entering the property through the front gate, we quickly noticed the TERRIBLE and UNSANITARY condition that the pool was in. It was BEYOND unsatisfactory, to say the least. It's safe to say we were INSTANTLY outraged by how filthy the pool looked. If I had to guess, it looked like it hadn't been cleaned for months. It was not blue and clear how the picture depicted but instead green, moldy with tree shedding all over the pool. The next issue was that we weren't able to enter the property and had to call the property manager in order to retrieve the key code. My son then opened the sliding door to one of the bedrooms, which was left unlocked. The property manager was on the phone with me the ENTIRE time, as we walked through the home up until the time we left. After we entered the property, we walked around to inspect to see if it was to our liking, but to our dismay, the home had a horrible stench, which could only be described as a strong dog odor. The bad odor was mainly in the main bedroom. Management was aware the entire time of our displeasure and that we were leaving, along with requesting a FULL refund.
We probably didn't stay in that home for more than 10 min of entering the home, give or take a few minutes, we left IMMEDIATELY. Again, during this time, the property manager was on the phone with me from the time we got there until the time we pulled off from the property. The reason being, I was expressing my dissatisfaction in real time and was in the process of sending her pictures of the property and texts from our initial inquiries about the property itself. It was also brought to my attention that there were negative reviews PRIOR to us even reaching out about renting the home. Dating back from September 2021 all the way to March of this year, there are SEVERAL negative reviews about the same issue with the pool not being useable. Even after expressing my concern s with the way bad business was done and requesting a refund in full, I was then accused of damaging a light fixture in the house and was told that I would be receiving only a partial refund because of it. Judging by the reviews and from my personal experience, it seems that these property owners have a history of bad business practices and false advertising. I have been totally turned off by this whole experience, and hopefully, by speaking out, I can prevent the next family or potential renter from going through this in the future.
