I just read that Asurion sends refurbished, badly, devices to those whose claims they fulfill. They denied my damage claim on my iPad because it wasnt on the Verizon network that day. I was on 2 planes that day flying to Africa. IPad was off most of the day. Anyhow i mostly use wifi and not cellular data so usually not on the Verizon network. The screen got cracked while it was in my carry on. Seems to me it would be cheaper for them to cover me getting a new screen rather than a whole badly refurbished device. Anyhow Verizon said they'd pay for the repair and refund my premiums. No one at Verizon knew Asurion could deny a claim because of no network usage.
