I purchased a replacement gear shifter for my 2001 Jaguar S-Type online, Motorcars manufacture their own alloy part that replaces the original plastic part that eventually wears. While the plastic part lasted over ten years, the alloy part lasted 2 1/2 years (approx 12,000 miles of use) before showing wear and needing replacement.
When I complained they said there was little they could do so I bought a replacement - only to find the replacement had been completely re-engineered. I called them a second time to make sure I had the right part and Motorcars Ltd claimed it was re-engineered for cost rather than performance reasons. Both times the part was priced in the $90-$100 region and I had double labor costs.
Evidently this part was a defective design - they should have replaced it at no cost.
