We had been with XE Trade for several years (I've reviewed them on SiteJabber), mainly because the transfers were relatively easy, as they used a Canadian bank. Now they're part of HiFX and all advantages have disappeared.
I contacted TorFX and received prompt, personal, friendly and helpful service from Tim Atkinson. The challenge was in persuading our Canadian bank to transfer money to Barclays; once that was set up, the transaction happened very quickly and the exchange rate was favourable. I even had a follow-up call from Tim at TorFX asking if we'd been happy with the transfer. I had no hesitation in saying yes and that we'd be using them for future transfers.

Tip for consumers:
It's possible that anyone at TorFX would be as helpful, but I'd suggest asking for Tim Atkinson in particular.

MacSales uses Purolator for delivery. Long after the item I'd ordered should have arrived at our friends' home in London Ontario, MacSales traced it to a town more than 200 km. Away. As we have no more friends coming to France from Canada until fall, I asked for and was quickly given a refund. MacSales treatment of me as a client was excellent; their responses were fast and very cordial each time I dealt with them. My only suggestion is that they find a different delivery service, at least for Canada. I would order from them again, but not unless I could do it 3-4 weeks ahead of time.

If you're in the slightest rush, do NOT order from MacSales. They promise 2-3 day delivery; I ordered a battery for my MacBook on May 11th, that had to arrive before our friend in Canada left for a visit to us in France on the 19th. It didn't and she's now in France and I'm without the battery. I won't be ordering from MacSales again; the price seemed great and so did the service initially, but the battery will be costing me far more in the long run, as I'll now have to pay to have it shipped from Canada to France and to inconvenience the friends who will have to do it - and I have no idea when it will arrive. In the meantime, my MacBook battery is discharging at an alarming rate. I'm furious.

We've used XE Trade for several years to transfer funds from Canada to France and were quite satisfied until yesterday, when the quote given us was about 300 euros less than we had expected it to be. Unfortunately, trusting XE, we transferred $15,000 CAD to our French account without looking at other sites and only today realized that we had lost money. Unless XE reimburses us for the lost funds, we will never again use them to transfer money.
2 days later: By phoning the company on Sunday, we were able to cancel the transaction and told to call back during office hours. It's now Monday, I've just spoken to two company reps and have been given a much better quote and decided to accept it. Our advice would be to check comparison sites as well as to speak directly with someone at the fx company. When I mentioned that the rate shown on our online account site was much lower than the quote we had just been given, I was told that our profile would be updated. Sure enough, when I got off the phone, I logged into XE and saw that the new quote was 100 euros higher than it had been 15 minutes earlier though, interestingly, not as high as the quote I had been given on the phone.
MORE THAN A YEAR LATER: XE is now using HiFX and therefor no longer convenient for Canadians living out of the country. Never having been offered assistance of any sort from them, I decided to try another transfer company. We're now with TorFX, a British company that's been amazingly helpful, although it's meant setting up an account with Barclays. We'd never use XE again.

Tip for consumers:
I'd recommend using TorFX or another company that was also very helpful, Currencies Direct.
