“Update to Acorn Review”

Uisdean M.

Well, NetFlix raised their price and we found that we were not watching it very much. So, we dropped NetFlix and added Acorn. Nice to have it back. Love Agatha Raisin. There are a lot of really good British shows here, BritBox does not have a monopoly... yet. Navigation is much different from BritBox. The "continue watching" section has a much better format than BritBox. You see which episodes you have watched... but be careful, some are off the screen to the right. The content here is not as bountiful as BritBox. But the quality is quite high. The shows from the "former empire" countries are really good. So, if BritBox has not updated the latest season of your favorite shows, check out Acorn. You might find some new favorites. But watch them quickly. Acorn is notorious for removing shows from the catalogue. They do warn you about it, though. Question: Does anyone know where we can watch the original seasons of QI, Would I Lie to You and other shows?

Tired of old programs being featured. Give us new clever programing. Very disappointed. So many great programs are not being featured. Why has Vera never gone beyond 6 seasons when there are actually 9. Poirot is excellent but episodes keep disappearing. The recent DEAD STILL was the worst new program yet. Couldn't believe the same Acorn that offers Murdoch Mysteries and Midsomer Murder's was responsible for that junk.

They don't give access to their whole library/catalog...

We subscribed to Acorn and enjoyed it. But they keep removing the shows we enjoy. We'll watch something and then 6 month or a year later we'd like to see it again. Acorn removes shows for some reason.
So... we switched to Britbox. We do miss Agatha Raisin and will probably re-subscribe to see that. Provided they have not removed it.

It's got Murdoch Mysteries and Brokenwood. Can't get better than that. And I can watch it my 32 inch computer monitor.

It seems from other reviews that this company is still ripping people off I strongly advise reading all reviews. With regard to service, value, shipping, quality all of these scored only one star. In other aspects the unsatisfactory outnumbered all other submissions put together. I cannot stress enough DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

Tip for consumers:
Please comment on poor quality to put unreliable companies out of business

ACORN TV HAS OLD CRAP SHOWS NO ONE WOULD EVER WASTE THEIR TIME WATCHING. THEY ALSO DOUBLE BILLED ME FOR SOME 8 MONTHS BUT WOULD ONLY REFUND ME FOR THREE. CHEATS AND CRAP COMPANY. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. WHOEVER GAVE THEM FIVE STARS MUST BE EMPLOYEES. ACORN TV SUCKS.

Just wish they're offerings were a bit larger. British TV has so much more and also the number of series with a title available are not so many.
Room for improvement but would definitely recommend!

Very easy to use, keeps track of where you left off and allows you to watch episodes in order. Britbox has more of the classic British comedies we want to watch, but I couldn't get it to work at all with Roku, their customer service is terrible, so went with Acorn instead.

This is a copy of an email sent to Acorn. Haha. Horrible company.
Five years ago I got your app and had nothing but problems on Apple devices. I was always led to believe that it was the fault of my devices and me. I had extreme difficulty canceling my membership. When I saw that a different company owned Acorn, I decided to give it another try. It has been nothing but problems. Once again representatives blamed me, my devices, my network, etc. I see from the numerous critical reviews on the App Store that others are having the exact same issues. Your response to them is usually to once again blame them, their devices, and their network. Odd that Apple owners all over are having the same problems on multiple devices and it is somehow our fault.
Numerous shows do not load and the number has been growing. The screen is just black. The app buffers and buffers and does nothing. The ads load at the top and the rest is blank. You go to watch a show and it tells you you need to pay but in settings it says your account is active. You'll log out and log back in and it tells you your username and password are wrong. You ask for a password reset and it tells you you can't have it. I lost track of the dozens of different error messages I have received and since the numbers are so long it's impossible to remember them all.
I have no problems with any other streaming app. It is you and you alone. You are losing pissed off Apple customers. In five years you have not been able to fix this. Support tickets go nowhere. Once again I am led to believe that I am the only one having these problems and it is all my fault. Have you read the online reviews?
Looks like it's time to cancel again and just go back to BritBox. At least this time after days of trying I will be able to cancel through Apple subscriptions.
You are the WORST streaming service that I have ever encountered. Who writes an app that doesn't work with Apple devices? And don't even think of blaming Apple (yeah you blame them a lot also). Funny how EVERYONE is to blame BUT YOU.
On the most recent call to you, I was told to cancel my Apple subscription and subscribe directly to Acorn. I did that 5 years ago and then couldn't cancel. I had to put a stop payment at the bank. I see again from the online reviews that others are also having difficulty canceling.
YOU ARE DECEPTIVE. YOU BAIT SUBSCRIBERS AND THEN THE SHOWS ARE BLANK.
On an App Store review, the developer responded and told me to contact an email address that DOES NOT EXIST. Are you kidding me?

We love Acorn's programs despite Acorn's apparent inability to provide a platform on which to reliably watch them. We have no technical issues at our end: high speed internet & WiFi are both 100% reliable, Netflix works with never an issue. Acorn, on the other hand, is a technoligical joke: we have to reboot our Apple TV several times a week (just to get Acorn to work) and have to repeatedly Sign In to Acorn because they've "lost us". Acorn tech support is a joke often more than a day to get a response which usually tells us to reboot Apple TV, etc. which we've already attempted multiple times. Our latest frustration is having shows simply disappear: yesterday "A Place to Call Home" disappeared from the Acorn site. We're in the middle of the third of the five series and yet another email to Acorn after trying a "Search" on Acorn which responds thats there's no such show or episodes.

Acorn offers some nice shows, but I quickly became a very frustrated customer. To many times the shows I was watching would all of a sudden just skip to the end, or they would stop running somewhere in between. This happens all the time. I do not experience this with any other on line subscription companies, like Netflix.

Shows from Australia and New Zealand. There are not many but very good. It's a reasonable price and there are, no ads
