Most savings accounts are just that, savings accounts, though some want to have a bespoke account with a single purpose at heart. There isn't a great deal of them, but they are out there. For example, there is SmartyPig, a quasi-online financial institution that helps individuals make savings goals and reach them. Smarty pig is like an online piggy bank. You can feel that your money is safe because it's FDIC insured. You can set savings goals and earn 1.1% APY on savings up to $50k- pretty good for a savings account. There is also a savings calculator so you can see what you need to set aside each month for whatever you are saving for. When you take out your money, you can earn extra money by putting your savings on gift cards with affiliated business. Additionally, you can earn money quicker by using a smarty pig reward card.

The account is great to meet a savings goal - but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. Account setup includes a small ACH transfer from your current bank account -then you have to call then to verify the amounts... um, you processed it - why do I need to call? Multiple verifications later, funds can be transferred.
Then you can only have ONE funding source (transfer funds into SmartyPig account) and if you want to change the funding source, they make you jump through hoops to get it done - a printed/signed affidavit & copy of your license - pics of these uploaded to website.
So, after a week of trying to setup the account, I finally moved a savings account (in full) and my funds are on HOLD for 13 business days. An ACH transfer on hold to 'verify funds' - really?.
Now I have to change my funding source to another account so that I can continue to save. Not sure its worth all the time and hassle, but you decide.
