Fabulous website with a wealth of information. I've been training and showing dogs for nearly 3 decades and I found the breed reviews on this site to be dead-bang accurate. Same with her training and health information, makes complete sense. As for her assesment of purebred dogs and conformation shows, even though I breed and show dogs myself, I have to admit she's right. Purebred dogs are terribly inbred and it's worse because of the policies of the AKC and breed clubs who are so paranoid about genetic purity they don't even know or care how much damage they're doing to dog's health. You should sit on the club committees like I have, and listen to this obsession with appearance, and narrowing the gene pool by breeding the same champions over and over, and breeding unhealthy shapes like smashed faces and crooked legs or wrinkley skin. Breeders and breed clubs are doing a disservice to purebred dogs today and I applaud this author for speaking up about it. An excellent, thought provoking website.
A few years ago I bought the "teach your dog 100 English words" book. And when I switched over computers I lost the book. I sent Michele Welton a copy of my order, the receipt, the order number Etc and she wrote back and told me that after a year she can't do anything about it and that I should get a USB to backup my files as if I didn't know how to do that. Completely unhelpful and a waste of $20.

I just ordered and received a bunch of eBooks from yourpurebredpuppy.com. With just a brief skim through the information seems ok however there is no contents page and no page numbers in a book with 286 pages! What the! What a shame. The website offered the books in hardcover format if you live in the US so I wrongly assumed these books were legit e-versions of the hardcover book, not a bunch of info written in what looks like a Word Document with cute unrelated stock photos. Not impressed at all.

This site has great information about 180 pure bred dog breeds. I find their reviews very accurate and informative. Their dog breed reviews tell you what is good and bad about the breed, so you can figure out which breed is right for you. The site is very informational for those who are pure breed fans, or looking to buy a new puppy.
Do not use as they are scammers. They took me for $850 & tried for another $1,500 for "insurance" expenses.
What a crock. The entire purpose of this site is to push the author's books. She has obvious prejudices against many things, including purebred dogs and conformation showing. Much of the information posted is very misleading or incorrect. A mixed breed is not going to be "middle of the road" in terms of temperament, it is going to have the traits of the breeds in its makeup. Many mixed breeds are crosses of similar breeds, such as terrier x terrier, retriever x retriever (the poodle is a retriever), and so on, which certainly won't result in a "middle of the road" dog. Mixed breeds are also just as likely to have health problems. Cancer, for instance, isn't breed specific. Those that breed mixed breed dogs aren't people who do all of the proper health testing before breeding (CERF, OFA, etc. - not just going to the vet for a check-up), and don't eliminate dogs with such problems from their lines/neuter the dog they leave loose/whatever.
If you want real, correct information about a breed, go to the breed's official club website(s). You will find people who have spent decades working with the breed, lots of information on health and genetics, where shows are being held so that you can go meet some, and other important things. Clubs always want to help you learn and aren't trying to sell you anything. They'll be happy if you want to own one of their breed, but they'll also be truthful and let you know if the breed isn't right for you.
Having recently adopted a puppy I found this site very informative and a great place to go for pet owners. I recommend this site.
They have no hesitation in making snarky comments and criticizing reward-based training, and go on and on and on and on about respect based training but after looking at half a dozen of the pages I didn't find a SINGLE example. Lots of "if you do what I teach the dog will RESPECT you" but not one example of how to get your dog to come without incentive or what an example of a consequence would be if the dog did not come. Don't hit or jerk on collar or use a choke collar... Lots of 'we don't do this, we don't do that' but absolutely nothing there gave me incentive to want to take the time to find and peruse the book at a local bookstore, much less buy it sight unseen. I'm not interested in (or dumb enough to fall for) weird secretive hard-sells from people who are so negative about other methods without actually giving any concrete examples of why they're better. No thanks. Half a dozen pages of reading full articles and I got NOTHING out of it. Waste.
Honest reviews of 180 AKC dog breeds and rare dog breeds. Information and advice on choosing a purebred, crossbred, or mixed breed dog, as well as adopting, buying, raising, training, and health care for pure breed, cross breed, and mixed breed puppies...
