I have has the same issue with the customers below. In 2020, I signed up for a $15 promotion for the year.
It was not stated or made clear anywhere when signing up that this was an auto renew program. A few months ago, I realised that my account had been debited a further $180 for the year 2021. I received no email, notice or "alert" about an upcoming auto renewal. In fact, I only ever received a "welcome" email from the company. I contacted them in which they stated that "Our app does require the acknowledgement of standard subscription terms and conditions, which includes auto-renewal". The issue with this is that I only accessed this program on my computer, and not a phone app. I used the program a few times and then didn't continue as it was actually quite disappointing. Again, it was not clearly written or displayed that I would be charged for the following year. I am now going to be charged a further $180 in May. The issue is how deceptive the company are with their auto renewal clause and how hidden it was. What is also concerning, is the lump payment that's been charged when the website states clients will be charged monthly. I'm aware that the ACCC have concerns with businesses not "providing notices or alerts in relation to pending expiry and auto renewal" and this has prompted me to speak up about this incident. Its all so disappointing and deceitful, the reply I got from the company which copied and pasted. Stay away!
