I was renting my modem for $10 a month from Optimum which means I've paid over $1200 with tax to use their equipment in the last 10 years.
$60 later, I purchased my own and had it up and running in minutes (which was easy to do on line or with tech support). What took me so long to switch?!
And in case you were wondering, no change noted in my services- things are running seamlessly.

Buying the modem will save you big bucks in five years. The new one works better than my old one...
