I was on an Air Canada flight from LAX-YVR and accidentally left my bag with all of my very important personal information in my seat - my driver's license, all of my credit cards, membership cards, cash, jewelry, etc. in my seat. I filed a claim with Chargerback and a week later, I received an email saying my item was found. I requested hold for pickup at YVR as I would be coming back through on my return trip nearly a month later. The reply I received was that my item could only be picked up at the DOMESTIC Baggage Arrivals Counter, however as I was just passing through on a short layover heading home to California, I asked for it to be moved to a different location where I could retrieve it.

Dee@ Chargerback forwarded the email to Air Canada with a note, "Please see below from your passenger" and an Air Canada employee at the Lost and Found Office replied and said they could not help me, "Unfortunately we will not be able to assist you in the manner you wish. We do not have the manpower to do this but more importantly USCBP has made it very clear that lost articles belonging to a passenger cannot be brought into a USCBP controlled area by someone else." I responded to both Chargerback and Air Canada on Nov 18 explaining my unique situation and basically pleading for assistance, and it was left unanswered, and I still have yet to hear back as of today (Nov 30).

In the end, I had no choice but to spend $134.89 CAD to have my purse shipped due to the threat of any unclaimed property being discarded after 30 days. I find this cost to be astronomically high and the fact that Chargerback never bothered to extend their assistance or even attempt to offer an alternative solution leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I am requesting a refund of $134.89 CAD for the shipment of my bag.

Dallas C. – Chargerback Rep

Hello, we are sorry to hear of this complaint. We do ask that you please understand our role in this process.

Chargerback is a software company used by Air Canada to help manage their lost and found. While our software accepts lost reports, sends notifications and accepts payment for the shipping of left behind items, our staff is not on site, we do not ever physically handle the items or have a say in their status. Those duties belong to our partners such as Air Canada.

Unfortunately, international shipping often times is very expensive. We are happy to hear that our partner, Air Canada was able to recover your item and it is being returned to you with the assistance of our software service.
