I bought a sim-only deal for £5.99/month. A few days later, I tried to send a premium text and couldn't. I phoned Lycamobile's Customer Services and after a message saying "Thank you and goodbye" every time I tried, on the 6th attempt (on the same number) it went through!
I told the foreign guy what had happened and he said I needed to top up so that I could send premium texts so I paid £10 + vat and tried again. Still nothing.
So then I had to go through this mess again. I went through the same annoying loop to finally get through to someone who only spoke English as a poor 2nd language, and that call was cut off early!
I tried again. This guy explained that the premium number I used (which is a competition line) cannot be used with Lycamobile SIM's and because I bought the top-up with a voucher online, he wouldn't be able to refund me either! So I wasted hours of my time and also spent money I didn't need to, for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
It's an absolute shambles!
