The maximum bid format allows you to enter a higher maximum hidden bid without the actual bid immediately jumping to that price. When a maximum bid is entered, the system will automatically bid on your behalf (only when necessary) up to your maximum.

Max bid means that is the price you're willing to pay for the item. Once you set you max bid, others will still be able to bid on an item, and once someone outbids your max bid, you will receive a notification.

Example: You set your Max Bid at $100.00 - this made you the highest bidder (winning bidder). The previous bid was $50, so now, you're winning the bid at $55 but your Max Bid is still $100. People can still bid, and as long as they don't go over your Max Bid of $100, you've won! Now, say no one else bid on the item after you secured the winning bid (it was $55, remember?). You will pay the $55, not the $100. The Max Bid is only what you want to set your highest price you're willing to pay for the item.

Hope this helps!

It is just you establishing a maximum amount you're willing to pay for an item. For example, if the current bid is $1 on a jersey and you decide you'd be willing to pay $80 for that jersey, then place your max bid as $80. Then, as other people bid on that jersey, it will increase the bid amount to their max bid. This process will continue until they decide to bid more than your max bid, at which point you will be outbid and no longer in the running for that jersey. To summarize, if you set your max bid to that $80, but no one bids higher than you and it closes out at let's say...$46, then you win that item for $46. However, if you set your max for $80 and it closes with someone else's bid of $82, then that person wins it for $82. Hope this helps and doesn't further confuse you.
