If I had not actually seen this with my own eyes, I would NEVER have believed it could happen in 2023 in a supposedly "enlightened" Society.

My boyfriend and I (both ordained Ministers) finished up a wonderful week in New Orleans at French Truck Coffee on Chartres Street. He had not been feeling well, so he went to use their ONE working restroom while I sat there drinking my coffee.

Upon his return, the Asst. Manager came over to tell us – in a loud voice, in front of a full coffee bar - that her Barista was "not comfortable with you there because of personal abuse issues in her past" and that we would have to leave. Apparently, and without being too descriptive, said Barista had barged in and seen him cleaning himself up!

He protested that he had locked the door, from the inside, but the Asst. Manager insisted that this was "just not possible, as it's not broken". You don't have to be a Rocket Scientist to grasp the insinuation, so I ran over to check the door, and take pictures of everything.

The keypad outside the door wasn't working, and the door was extremely "springy" to the touch. It was not closing properly and hard to shut. By this time the Manager had arrived, coming over to us with a very smarmy "knowing" look, and echoing the Asst. Manager by asking us to go, and that the "lock is not broken". We refused, and it got very heated.

As I took her to the one working restroom to show her the door, the Barista was passing by. The Manager called her, and she ran inside the bathroom (presumably to hide) and I watched as she used ALL of her weight to push open the door, without knocking. This has obviously been her M. O.

People were gathering, so I started to record the Manager. I told her I was, and she said "Good, because I've BEEN taping you". Illegal Act #1: Louisiana demands that one person knows they're being taped, before proceeding. She also let slip that she'd had the door repaired 3 times because the lock was broken. Even though she denied she'd said that later, I have it on tape.

Is this really the way to treat your customers? My bf was completely mortified! Could this not have been handled better than this? I have NEVER been so angry in my entire life.

Upon our return to NYC, we called, among other places, the Louisiana Health Dept, which confirmed (Illegal Act #2) that the law states "one working bathroom for customers and a separate one for staff". They also called us back, after Inspection, and confirmed to my bf that "French Truck has been cited for this, along with the fact that the locks had been found to be broken, and had now been fixed".

Finally, my bf received a call from French Truck's Head Office, asking what they could do to "make this right?" Really? My bf is far kinder than I would have been. He settled for a Gift Basket.

This was 10 days ago. SO FAR: NOTHING. NADA. ZILCH!

I give this place minus 100 Stars.

I have been a member of My Points since 2004, and I have gathered up a lot of points to cash in for some great rewards.

Then, several years ago, things started to get worse and worse. The Surveys page, which My Points tries very hard to tout, does not always (make that usually) work. One is supposed to earn 5 points (used to be 10) every time one gets kicked off a survey. I find myself starting, what is shown as a "5 minute survey" only to get kicked off within a few seconds. However, instead of awarding me 5 points, it puts me straight into another one, and another, and another. By the time I get my 5 points, I've completed 5 surveys, 90% towards completion and My Points has all of my information. I've also completed surveys and not earned any points! But try to contact them to dispute this, and you can't! I mean, it takes FOREVER, and if you didn't note the number of the Survey you completed, you're not getting any points.

Final straw for me was when I completed a Survey 4 weeks ago, and it showed that payment of the points would be delayed (60 days, it said). I have been watching the countdown of days for the past 4 weeks until all of a sudden I woke up on Saturday to see that my points were missing, and that there was NO notice of any points due to me. What's more, I'm going around in circles trying to find someone to contact about this, but cannot without the Survey number.

So. I'm done. I'm unsubscribing. After close to 20 years, I'll go find something else to do with my time.

I've had my ups and downs with Yelp, but I don't get upset with negative, but fair, reviews from customers as we can't please everyone each and every time; it's just not possible. What REALLY upset me was a "review" from someone who said that she had cancelled her appointment with me, but that I took her money anyway! This is an outright LIE, plus I knew she had never spoken with me before because if she had, she'd have known that I'm a bit antiquated with technology, and I never have access to a client's banking information ahead of any appointment! What she actually said was a libelous statement, as she said that I stole her money. I duly responded to her "review". I knew that it was all made up, as I'm aware that there are people who now derive a full time career/income from making up stuff (reviews) to put on the sites of people they don't know and have never had a service with.

Yelp placed the review under "Not Recommended", and I told them that it was false and that I wanted it removed. The "reviewer", in turn, must have realized that it was only by putting out more reviews that she would get more exposure and that her reviews would be seen, so it ended up front and center on my site.

I reviewed Yelp on Yelp's own review site, with a 1 star and explained what had happened. A Yelp employee, Delaney, must have seen it and emailed me and said that I could have another person take a look at it, and maybe it could be considered to be removed, after all. She sent me a Yelp form, and I spent nearly 2 hours putting my case together. The form asked for a "Case Number" and I hunted high and low for it for another hour, only to realize that the case number comes with the original rejection email from Yelp. In my case, 6 month's prior! Of course, like most of us, I got rid of it after the first rejection. Despite emailing Delaney, I was met with complete SILENCE! So that means there will be no second look at an obviously false "review" dumped on my site from someone in SoMa, San Francisco. I am beginning to wonder if it was actually written by a Yelp employee! Anyway, the review account was set up with the express intent of taking me down, so it seems, and I am powerless to do anything to remove it.

There is just NO way that I want anything to do with Yelp any more, and I will not be spending any money with them. I'm moving towards Google, which has SO MUCH less drama than Yelp.

I just wish that Yelp would bring itself into the 21st Century, and make the person prove that they had the service before allowing them to destroy a career that has taken years to put together.

Tip for consumers:
DO NOT claim your business on Yelp, and DO NOT spend any money with them. It's like dealing with the Mafia! They tout the fact that businesses can't pay to have reviews removed, but they allow phony and fake reviews to stay - and these so-called "reviewers" know that, as they've been paid to make stuff up.

  • Mr. Cooper

• Updated review

I have reviewed them MANY times before; when they were Nationstar, and when they had to change their name to Mr. Cooper, back in 2016.

In March of 2017, a mortgage payment (check) went missing, and they didn't want to hear anything about it - choosing to ding my credit score 100 points and hit me with late fees. Thank God my bank (TD Bank) discovered that my check had been put into one of Mr. Cooper's workers' accounts and cashed. They retrieved my money, even though Mr Cooper denied any knowledge, and, in fact, got quite snotty. It took me going to John Crudele at the New York Sunday Post, with threat of a story about them to get my credit score put back to its pristine 829, and them backing away from the late fees.

I have continued to use checks to pay my mortgage, but have been much more careful, using a special pen, mailing it at the Post Office etc., and I'm VERY pleased I have. One day, a couple of years back, I woke up to the news that Mr. Cooper had been accused of siphoning off many of their clients' bank accounts, overnight, to the tune of 20+ monthly payments. There is still a Class Action lawsuit in place, I believe, for reparation of people's pain and suffering because of this.

Fast forward to June of this year, when I mailed my check, out of State, and it supposedly never reached its destination. When I FINALLY battled through the phone tree that is Mr. Cooper on July 10th, I spoke to a REALLY lovely lady, Patricia, who told me (after consultation with a higher up), "Ms H, we have received a mail piece from you on July 3rd". When I questioned why, being now that it was July 10th, my payment had not gone through, she intimated that they did not have enough people to do the work, and July 4th was a holiday! She also cautioned me to make a payment soon so as not to incur late fees.

Well, said "mail piece" was obviously my check, since I had not sent them anything else, which can only mean one thing (in my eyes). They are holding on to people's check payments so as to make them incur late fees, and/or "force" them to make alternative payment methods. I was forced to stop my check (which cost me $35) and make my payment on line.

This place is the single most disgusting place I have ever encountered, bar NONE. I am just one of many hundreds of thousands of people writing honest 1 star reviews about them, but I have seen them in action first hand, after I reported them in 2017 because of fraud. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PLACE, BY CHOICE. If they have your mortgage, keep an eye on EVERYTHING, get out as soon as you can, and keep copious notes with every interaction. You have been warned!

Mr Cooper mortgage strikes again!

After all of the other scam stuff this place has been pulling, we now have this:

https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/big-overdrafts-at-big-mortgage-company-60k-gone-from-one-mr-cooper-account/*******/

It appears that they have been pulling out large sums of money from those that have authorized access to their accounts!

I learned, back in 2017, after having my own unsavory experience with their shady doings, NEVER to let them have access to my account, and I'm SO glad that I did. I SO wish I could refi away from these people, but unfortunately I cannot - Even with an 829 credit score.

This is my second run in with Mr Cooper, so you know that my Trust Antennae was already in full throttle.

In the first instance, back in 2017, my mortgage payment (by check) went missing. In the days before check "washing", my bank informed me that my check had gone into the personal account of one of Mr. Cooper's own workers. Nevertheless, I still had a huge runaround in getting my money back, and my credit score returned back to its pristine condition. In fact, only because of John Crudele at the Sunday New York Post, was my plea for help even taken seriously, after contacting the BBB, Consumer Protection Agency, and a host of others. After threatening to write an article, my payment came back, as did my credit score. Everyone concerned at Mr. Cooper, including those in Senior Management, were very snotty and accused me of making the whole thing up.

So, fast forward to 2023. I am still sending them a monthly check (written in a special police recommended ink pen) because I don't want to end up in the position of millions of homeowners who had 15-20 mortgage payments siphoned out of their accounts, overnight, a couple of years back. These are the ones who have elected to pay on line, so therefore Mr. Cooper has their financial information at hand. What a nightmare that turned out to be for so many, and there is a Class Action lawsuit in process.

Anyway, I digress. I sent out my check, out of State, a few days early. It is supposed to be received by the 16th of the month, or there will be a late fee. I waited and waited and double checked my bank account. No withdrawal. Finally, on July 10th I called and actually managed to get someone to speak with, which was amazing, as you have to fight your way through some kind of phone tree. This lady was VERY nice, and efficient. Her name was Patricia, and (while I was on the line) she emailed another associate to see if my check had been received. She told me "there is a mail piece from you that was received on July 2nd". When I gave her the check number, and asked when it would be deposited, as today was the 10th, she told me that there had been shortages of mail deliveries, workers, etc. but that Mr. Cooper associates had been working on July 3rd, the day before the holiday. She also warned me that I had to keep any eye on things as there would be a late payment on the 16th.

My check was NEVER deposited, and I know that they received it as she said so. So what are these sneaky MFrs up to now? I think they are trying their hardest to get late fees from people. I had to stop my check ($30) and pay over the phone, which I really did NOT want to do. They now have all of my information, and if there is another breach I will get hacked just like all the millions of others.

I hate this place with a passion. In England, where I am from, it is illegal to sell on mortgages, and I wish it were the case here, too. I cannot get away from this Outfit - even with an 829 Credit Score. They are SCUM. Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT get sucked in to this place. There is a reason why there are all of these lawsuits and horrible reviews. You have been warned!!

  • Thumbtack

4/17/18

I worked for Thumbtack, right at the VERY beginning when leads were completely free, and it was absolutely wonderful! I LOVED Thumbtack and was getting hired a LOT. Then, gradually, bit by bit, they started to change. The charges were reasonable at first, and they also had this thing whereby if the person ONLY asked for a quote from "you", you got the lead for free.

Someone has been playing around with the system BIG time. You know what they say: if it's not broken, don't try to fix it. As time went on, the categories changed, too, and I found myself being placed into categories that didn't really accurately reflect what I do. My complaints fell on completely deaf ears. I am an ordained Spiritualist Minister, with all of the rights and privileges granted to any Minister of any other recognized religion; I'm not a "fortune teller" (shudder: HATE that expression), even though Spiritualists have the belief of the ability to communicate with people who have crossed over, but I'm not a traditional, Christian, minister either!

Then, we have the public's mindset of "let me book the person who is the cheapest, and who will work for almost free". These are the exact same people after the event who are complaining that the person/entity doesn't know what they are doing!

If you check my reviews, on Thumbtack AND other sites, you will see that they show 5 stars for the most part. That's because I have integrity. No, I'm not the cheapest, but my pricing is on the low end of average for New York City.

Now, I rarely (if ever) use Thumbtack for anything, even though I won an award for "Best Of", back in 2013 I think it was :). I think it's a shame because if it continues to make everything "all about the money" it will gradually wear itself out and down, as do most people/companies who start to believe their own publicity. I mean, Angie's List is free and there are a host of other choices for workers now.

All that being said, Thumbtack gave me a start. At the time I was using Thumbtack, I was just transitioning from a full time corporate job to this work, my passion. For that I will be forever grateful. These days, I get referrals from my early Thumbtack leads and honestly, word of mouth is still King!

Gradually the pricing has gone up and the quality has gone way down. I just simply got sick and tired of quoting for things and spending my good money on leads that went absolutely nowhere. It seems to be the same story for most.
